Notes
Ah, yes, I remember when you needed help to archive. But you can draw the blue duck archive now, and with 50000(!) edits, I doubt you need help with anything. Just a couple comments:
- I went to fix a spelling error on your userpage, and discovered that you have more (or is it moar?) pointless hidden text than I ever saw! What's with you and strange pronunciation of words that way???
- I may be changing my username soon, so make sure you take note if some random stranger comes up and treats you like an old friend.
- I never visit the main page anymore, so tell me: Did Plaza Mayor's article end up as a DYK?

- The status of it is on this page Tommy! [message]

Union station
I'm trying to present information about Los Angeles Union Station. I'm sorry about the non-neutral point of view thing, I was just making a little inside joke to show my dad. I'm now trying to make a professional, accurate, and factual section on the page. Why can't I do this?
- I haven't reverted your edit since; although I think it could be worded better. Thanks, Tommy! [message] 01:22, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Well would you and other users please have the common courtesy to edit/improve/re-word what one posts instead of deleting the paragraph entirely?
- No, my job isn't to clean up after random editor's poorly worded "contributions" to articles; it's hard to even know what you're trying to say as I (and most likely a lot of readers) are unfamiliar with the subject. I revert what is nonconstructive and copyedit contribs or welcome users that are just below ideal for an encyclopedia, if not already at that level. Tommy! [message] 05:09, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

6-APDB
Hello,
About 10minutes ago you deleted my revised page on the chemical 6-APB, which is currently set to be redirtected to 6-APDB. Please note that these are two different chemicals and I was in the process of creating a page for 6-apb itself. Please allow me to delete the redirected link and create its own page. Otherwise people will be mislead into thinking they are the same chemical. Thanks

Regarding Xfire vandalism
I would like to point you to my talk page in case you haven't seen it. User_talk:DAOWAce The person who vandalized the Xfire article page was not me. In fact, I did the opposite, undoing vandalism and actually requesting this article to be protected. It is disgusting to see a close friend do something like this to me. I sincerely apologize to you for being forced to put any effort into undoing what he did and reporting my account for persistent vandalism. He will never be forgiven. Page hijacking
You really shouldn't take over a primary page like you did at Marc Murphy. You should really create Marc Murphy (chef) and have a disambiguation page at Marc Murphy. You might not have heard of the footballer, but he is a #1 draft pick, so he isn't some borderline notable player. Please ensure you also fix up all of the links that you've now broken.The-Pope (talk) 15:47, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- I can't remove it back to the original. I also don't think the word "hijacking" is necessary either. Tommy! [message] 15:56, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- Done
- Thanks for the quick response and action. If the chef becomes the next Gordon Ramsey or Martha Stewart, then obviously you could "claim" the primary topic. I'll hatnote to the chef on the footballer's page, if you haven't already. No offense was intended by the hijacking term - I thought that was a commonly used term for this sort of event, but it probably should be only used for malicious vandalism style page takeovers, not this sort of thing. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 16:20, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Mindset of vandals
I've been doing vandalism research lately, and I would like to get into the mindset of a vandal so I can continue my research. However, the only way I can think of getting into the mindset of a vandal is to create another account to be used for this testing purpose. While creating legit socks isn't against policy, creating vandalism-only accounts is. Can you think of any other way I could get into the mindset of a vandal without actually becoming one? The Raptor You rang?/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 23:32, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, go back to age 12. Tommy! [message] 23:34, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

- No, to be honest, I think the problem is the fact that many young, and far too often immature users take WP:BOLD and WP:IAR a little too far (if they are even aware of the policies) and add their own ideas and opinions to articles; if not blatantly vandalizing, to articles and creates a major problem. On top of that, if they (big if) are blocked, it may encourage a bit of a cat and mouse like game. Not that that's common, but it happens. Tommy! [message] 23:38, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I wonder what motivates them to vandalize? I understand they take Wikipedia's "Be Bold" policy too far, but that's probably not always why they vandalize. The Raptor You rang?/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 23:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, they may also not be aware that users can be blocked or that pages can be protected instantly either. If it's a long-term abuse case, who knows. Grawp's been trying for years and he has yet to give up his game, although with the edit filter and the black lists, a user cannot make harassing usernames or move pages to offensive titles like he and other vandals used to. Tommy! [message] 23:43, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- That could sometimes be the case. I guess they also vandalize just because they're bored and know that anybody can edit Wikipedia. I wonder what would happen if we just reverted their edits and didn't post warnings? I think warnings actually intensify the cat-mouse game. It tells them that they've been noticed. That could be another reason why they vandalize; they want to get noticed and recognized for their vandalism efforts. The Raptor You rang?/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 23:47, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Very likely; although if you want to see why some users are banned, looking at WP:BANNED will give you an idea why some users can't come back, but may come back anyway, under a new name. Tommy! [message] 23:52, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

What do you think about not warning the vandals? While warning them is important, I think warning them actually tells them that they're getting noticed, and they'll continue to get noticed if they continue to vandalize. The Raptor You rang?/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 23:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- You should warn them regardless, starting at an appropriate level. Most of the time, I want to say, they are just playing around.. whatever. Many times they stop after the 2nd or 3rd level warning. If it's an LTA or banned user, it's usually never hard to tell. Tommy! [message] 00:04, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- I will always warn them, but I still think warning them sometimes (not always, but sometimes) motivates them to vandalize further. The Raptor You rang?/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 00:09, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well sometimes I skip the warning on huggle if I think it's 1. a mistake or 2. perhaps a vandal edit but unprovoked. Some other users skip the first warning and will warn on the 2nd vandal edit. I have no problem with that philosophy. There are many, many unconstructive edits, but odds are very few of them are actually vandalism. Tommy! [message] 00:12, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Vandals may think it is funny to vandalize. Ocean Shores (Formerly TEK) 02:39, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- My view on warning vandals (and on vandals in general) has shifted over time, but right now I could probably summarise it like this:
- For a first instance, warning may not be appropriate. It may be a (rude) test edit, and warning them simply annoys them (and provokes them into continuing). Revert them, and keep an eye on their contributions.
- For someone who has vandalised more than once, if they haven't been warned or welcomed, I'd recommend
{{Welcome-anon-vandal}}
. Partly because we should welcome editors, partly because a good faith editor may be the first person to see the welcome, and partly because because I think if the vandal is seeking warnings as some sort of legitimacy, a welcome thwarts that.- I regard
{{Welcome-anon-vandal}}
as a "level-0" warning - it can be followed by a level-1 warning, or a level-4 warning. (Or anything in between).
- I regard
- After a welcome, warnings are appropriate - even if it gives them some sort of reward, all it gives them is a generic, templated message. No hint of the anger or annoyance that we may feel (and, to be honest, I don't tend to get angry about this anymore - it's just another task to deal with. Sooner or later they'll be blocked, and I can get on with more important tasks - maybe dealing with another vandal, maybe working on an article).
- I don't know why vandals vandalise, but I suspect Ocean Shores is correct. If that is the case, templated messages are the best way to deal with it - where's the humour in repetitive tasks ("edit to insert 'poop'. Receive templated message. Edit again. Receive templated message). We're OK with repetitive tasks because we're not doing it for comedy value - we see it as a positive contribution to a project we believe in. But I can see a vandal losing interest quickly if the process is the same each time.
- There are, of course, vandals who don't seem to tire of this. I'm thinking of one who adds racist vandalism to a few user talkpages. I can only speculate as to why they continue, and my speculations would not be polite ;-)
- TFOWR 09:10, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, when I once I asked why vandals vandalize as a newbie, User:Brambleclawx told me Vandals enjoy the thrill of misinforming. They like to think "HAHA! I just convinced the world that wolves eat potatoes!" It makes them feel superior, as though they are "hacking" Wikipedia". Kind of sad if you ask me :P Derild4921☼ 18:13, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Very likely, and that's why I support Pending changes. It ruins the "oh look I can change it instantly!" Even Stephen Colbert thrived on this idea originally in his show when it premiered in 2005. Tommy! [message] 18:18, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

- Well, I was editing from my Wii console, but that got tedious. I'm going to try editing from my PS3 later. I just got wireless internet, as you may have just surmised.
- BTW, I have a theoretical question, inspired by a previous editor's query of the mindset of vandals. What is the motivation of a section blanking/minor edit vandal? They drive me nuts! It's not interesting to see what they have to say, they just delete random paragraphs and charts, and I'm never sure if what they're doing has a point, or if I should warn them! Do you feel what I mean? Finalius! (Talk, sign) 13:58, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

"Anyone who does not float in this inundation is most condemned. Such a person cannot be delivered for millions of kalpas. PURPORT The kalpa is explained in the Bhagavad-gītā (8.17): sahasra-yuga-paryantam ahar yad brahmaṇo viduḥ. One day of Brahmā is called a kalpa. A yuga, or mahā-yuga, consists of 4,320,000 years, and one thousand such mahā-yugas constitute one kalpa. USF page edit
Tommy, I believe that my edits are reliable sources, even the administrators for many of the buildings in different sections on campus know about the bonuses for the campus. There is nothing wrong with my posts in a sense. The only thing I can see wrong with it is that it is in the wrong area. But as a student, I am frustrated with the lies that this school has fed both me and others. You can keep editing and deleting it but there are many sources of proof of the Dean and other presidential staff members receiving their bonuses. If I left out the opinionated talk and placed it in a new section I can keep it, correct? I've seen far worse pages on wikipedia and I'm starting to think Wikipedia is paid to make sure that USF's page is kept secure and that no more students speak out the truth.
- You can post the problems if you write them in an encyclopedic tone... that is, it should not read like someone venting or upset. It should also be referenced after every claim too; but not by an opinion column. WP:V is a cornerstone policy; a few upset people or "if they heard about it" doesn't count. Thank you Tommy! Since when is fighting the slander a vandalism?
Hi Tommy. I am not a vandal - my staff and I were falsly accused of theft so I protested against defamation and the wrong information on wiki. I don't have any interest of editing other wrong informations on The King's HEad Theatre web page, however I demand an apology from the user 82.153.42.101 who commited an illegal act of slander that affects the reputation of my staff and mine. How can I achieve that if you're warning me against fighting for my reputation? That edit was red by many people and potentional employees of mine and others who were accussed of theft!
- Hi there. Please read WP:NOT. I was unsure how to go about notifying you regarding that edit, because you're right, it is not vandalism, but unconstructive. Thanks, Tommy! [message] 14:36, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- It might be unconstructive for you - it is not your reputation that had been slandered. How can I be 'constructive' than?
- If you wp:cite it and read wp:not, you should get an idea to keep it included in the article. Tommy! [message] 14:40, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

WPBATTLE - Reply
Hi there TOMMY, VASCO here,
regarding this message to my anon IP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:217.129.65.5#WP:BATTLE), i really cannot offer any more "excuses", just say this: i have NO tolerance for vandals and "wise" "users" who offer nothing to the site, and my frustration that this is allowed to happen will always (i'm afraid so) get the best of me, resulting in bad reactions.
I will always work like a horse to improve the site, but if my not complying with its rules result in a block or ban, then i guess it will happen because i deserved it. However, i long since quit assuming good faith, why should i do it? Besides, my only threats have been within the site's scope - page protection and/or blocks for "users" - i have never threatened anyone physically or legally. Insults? Yes i have done so, unfortunately. Funny enough, i was once told, in my previous anon address - i changed computer since - to "FUCK OFF" by another "user" after telling nothing aggressive to him (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:217.129.67.28&diff=215416027&oldid=212385732) and, from what i see, he did not get one single reprimand (here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:202.75.80.182), "interesting" to see that difference.
Again, sorry for any incoveniences in which i may have incurred, keep up the good work, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:08, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Ivanhoe
Hello, Tommy, from the Eastern US.
How many years have I had an account at Wikipedia ? I mean, 'Welcome' ? How about you ? How long have you been here ? And what are you running from with a new moniker for the new year ?
As for Ivanhoe, I'm glad that you want articles written from a neutral point of view. So why is the 'historical accuracy' section so sloppily, relentlessly and determinedly negative ? It's a hash of nonsense. Scott ain't Shakespeare. But if he's to be criticised, that can be done legitimately on the points on which he can be criticised. There's no need for a farcical kangaroo court on 'historical accuracy'.
Regards,
Euan Ferguson

I see your put this back without waiting for my reply. I played the video and the first question and answer is:
Q: What is your name
A: Julia Child
That kind of answers the question.
If we really want to recognize her maiden name, we should adhere to the Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies)#Maiden_names and use Julia (McWilliams) Child or Julia Child (née McWilliams ...). --Crunch (talk) 18:10, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Tommy, we meet again. On this one, I think you're wrong. How would you know if its not too long? There is way more on controversies than about his Governorship. And this is coming from a man who is slated to win the Election by 10%, so clearly he's doing SOMETHING right. I don't think that the controversy section should be deleted, but made shorter because there is clearly a bias in that section. Its a right-wing attempt to make the Governor look bad. And most of the controversy is slated around his inauguration, and was probably put there by people still upset over their loss in the election. Oh, and this bit, "the appointment to the $120,000-per-year position came at a time when the state faced a $1.4 billion revenue shortfall which may cause Patrick to layoff 1,000 state workers and cut state aid to towns and cities" clearly comes from a biased source. So there Tommy. I'm not a "vandal", but just trying to make a more unbiased article. Thank God for "vandallism-fighters" like you Tommy.

- You have your biases, that's fine. You were already blocked for 55 hours for your editing habits and if you keep it up, you'll get blocked again. I never said you were a vandal, so pay careful attention: I said you are editing disruptively. You can also argue your reasoning but it is referenced and "too long" is entirely arbitrary to being in an encyclopedia. Tommy! [message] 15:07, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Tommy, I do not have bias. And how about when you blocked me the first time? You called be a "liar" and a "vandal". Your words. And then "how lovely for the citizens of Massachusetts". Oh, and I just went into your archives to find our conversation, but you deleted. Oh, you are so smart Tommy. 24.63.3.12 (talk) 15:13, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- I didn't block you and my comments, while perhaps strong, were not wrong. And it is clear as day that you have a bias, like everyone else. However, your edit summaries clearly suggest that there is an attempt to mitigate any negative attention to that article. Here, there is an important policy: writing in a neutral point of view. It doesn't matter what you believe, but how you add to articles. Thank you. Tommy! [message] 15:35, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Help needed
Hi Tommy, I saw your contribution in the article "Thathaal", I have serious doubts about the authenticity of this article and its references. To me this article is just the stories, having nothing to do with the reality,I have just challenged the first three references of the article on the discussion page ( would do the others also when I get time) can you please contribute in the discussion to find out the reality. To me this article is nothing but to glorify a " Caste". For me, wikipedia is to write the true history for the coming generation, and not to give false promotion to any individual or some group of individuals. Regards Jogibaba (talk) 18:02, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I have removed the name of Adil Thathaal and Deepika Thathaal from the list od prominent thathaals, the reason is that i have been in contact with there father because I wanted a photo to be uploaded for adil Khan. His father told me that there is misunderstanding about the caste " Thathaal", according to him, the true word iss "Thothal" and not Thathaal and second the main caste name is Rajput and not Jatt. Adil has changed his name from Adil Thathaal to Adil Khan, Deepika is still carring her surname, because she want to change it after marriage. Since I think that the article thathaal is not a serious article, so why some genuine people should be added there to give that article some drops of authenticity. I hope you did not mind me removoing their name and you would stop getting their name added as long the authenticity of the article is not decided.Jogibaba (talk) 18:24, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

The Authority decided it would be easier for visitors to check the website, as we do not have the time to change our wikipedia page every time a new destination/airline is added or removed. Flights can change monthly, so wikipedia would always be outdated. There's no way we can delete the section? 209.47.83.60 (talk) 19:57, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi there Tommy, VASCO here,
it's very frustrating to me that i am only contacted on these occasions, never receiving words of encouragement or the sorts when i improve articles around here (yes, no one is making me, i do it because i want to), in FOUR years; please note that it does not justify my edit summaries, but it's very strange in my humble opinion. Again, i stress my summaries have bordered the hysterical (anger management issues, serious ones my friend, i am not saying that WP is supposed to be therapy, as you once put it) sometimes, but only that, which leads to...
About your suggestion: yes, i will tone down in the future with the well-intended users, a promise. With the vandals and akin...sorry, i can't make that promise (hence me saying i have never insulted in summaries, vandals i have). User/admin Nuclear Warfare is au courant of my wikibehaviour, and he has NEVER issued out any warnings whatsoever. Also, i have never been reported anywhere, only had conflicts with lowlifes that started insulting me/vandalizing my page after i reported them/protected pages/blocked IPs. Not my fault really, but you are entitled to your opinion.
All in all, again you have my promise that i will NEVER go out of line again with a well-intended user at the site (fortunately the vast majority of us), keep up the good work and take care - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:25, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
