- Water Burial → Alkaline hydrolysis (body disposal) (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
It seems that is most commonly refers to burial at sea rather than the current target, but not sure it should simply be redirected or if it's worth disambiguating at Water burial or elsewhere. Mdewman6 (talk) 20:51, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Disambig in terms of long-term significance burial at sea is the primary, but the first page of my search results is primarily about the present target (due at least in part due to recent UK news) with some results also about scattering cremated ashes in water, for Cremation#Retention or disposal of remains is probably the best target as that covers scattering of ashes in the River Ganges and similar, even though the burial at sea article (which is regarded as the main article) doesn't. Thryduulf (talk) 09:16, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
- Disambig hatnote may be a workable alternative, but seems likely to have its own problems. - Darker Dreams (talk) 02:23, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

WP:R#D8 situation. Nobody is going to search for Fred on Wikipedia while replacing the e with a 3 and fully capitalizing it. It has also looks like and has been used as an acronym, admittedly for things we don't have coverage of, but I think the slight confusion that could arise makes this better off deleted. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 18:06, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Delete: Fred Figglehorn, who at least I assume is the intended target of this, spelled it using a Я to spell FЯED, which already targets Fred Figglehorn. Using a forward facing R but a 3 as a backwards facing E is novel enough to probably be safely deleted. TartarTorte 23:12, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Comment somewhat likely leet-speak version of the term, so it is not a reference to "Fred Figglehorn", rather to the name "Fred" itself. Elon Musk and Tesla Motors do spell S3XY that way, so it isn't really unknown to the general populace to replace an E with a 3 -- 67.70.25.175 (talk) 23:53, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Delete thought at first this might be a soundex representation, but when I found numbers are only used for consonants, that theory went out the window. Any supposition that this is directed to a particular name, that name should be targeted rather than the forename in general, in my opinion. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 01:09, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

That would be Dancing with the Stars: Juniors and the currently ongoing main series' season, Dancing with the Stars (American season 32) (where it also mentions about her first-time involvement right above the cast table). While the word "penile" is easily confusable with "penal" it has a completely different meaning, that wouldn't be used in legal contexts. Also the way "penile" and "penal" are pronounced are both different. 1033Forest (talk) 17:40, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

- Hmm, I think Wassoulou#Language is the best target for Wasulu language. For Sundic languages maybe Sundanese language? Caeciliusinhorto-public (talk) 08:25, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- Retarget both. "Sundic languages" are more than just Sundanese; the name relates to the Greater Sunda Islands. It's an obsolete subgrouping proposal by Isidore Dyen that is occasionally mentioned in the literature even in the 21th century (e.g. in the 2017 3rd edition of Bernard Comrie's The World's Major Languages), so it's a useful search topic. I've added a short mention of "Sundic" in Malayo-Sumbawan languages#Classification, so we can use the latter as a practical target for the redirect.

- Eudonia lacustrata had it with the typo, which I have now corrected. It was added at the page in 2011 by Ruigeroeland, a butterfly expert but a user since blocked, and it may have been a typo, because the line above it in the same edit had "Phalaena lacustrata" with the correct spelling. While the typo has propagated to other wikis, and is not to be seen in other external sources, the correction we can do on enwiki is to Delete. Jay 💬 13:06, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

- Third finger (disambiguation) → Third finger (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
While it is true that these terms are ambiguous, the target article is not a disambiguation page. These links serve no purpose at all, and disambiguation links for the other fingers don't exist. Delete as housekeeping. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:04, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- Comment, it does seem as if the two targets are possibly interpreted as disambiguation pages, although the existing format is certainly unusual. In regards to the first finger page, the article seems to be disambiguating "thumb" and "index finger", which are both referred to as "first finger" depending on the context. There is a lot more description present than what would normally be expected of a disambiguation page, but as it stands it does appear that the articles in question are designed to "disambiguate the uses of the two fingers." Utopes (talk / cont) 14:40, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- I agree, but the redirects serve no purpose. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 11:55, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- I think the big sticking point for me is "whether or not this is a disambiguation page". If it is agreed that this page serves to disambiguate the multiple uses of "first finger", and thusly is a disambiguation page, then that would make First finger (disambiguation) be a valid WP:RTOUNDAB situation. If this isn't a disambiguation page, then the redirect should not exist as such. Utopes (talk / cont) 15:25, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- I agree, but the redirects serve no purpose. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 11:55, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- Keep. The key question for me is will someone using this search term find what they are looking for at the target? If someone is using a search term ending in "(disambiguation)" they almost certainly want either (1) a link to a specific article they don't know the title of but suspect is not the primary topic for the term, or (2) a list of things that can be referred to by the search term. In both cases the current targets will give them what they are looking for. Thryduulf (talk) 13:41, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

- Delete. Google brings up two primary meanings of the term, a type of umbrella and a type of property, both sometimes also called "mini flat" or "mini-flat". The latter seems to be principally a Nigerian English term, and if [1] is accurate (and I have no reason to think it isn't) it is not a bedsit but a small apartment. The only content we have here (about either use) is this (inaccurate) redirect and a see-also link to it, so there is no retargetting option. I'd suggest soft redirecting it to Wiktionary, but there is no entry there and I'm not immediately finding suitable uses (filtering out adverts is hard) and I've run out of time to look further. The umbrella usage is basically just a marketing adjective and wouldn't make a good redirect even if we did have content. Thryduulf (talk) 11:10, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

Implausable search term, would potentially cause confusion with users searching for __ university in general and being redirected to a much more nation specific topic Justiyaya 13:25, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Delete. These are broad search terms that if searched are likely to give the reader confusion. What's more is that the target place doesn't really have any info on these universities either. ULPS (talk • contribs) 14:46, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Keep. I would like to address the concerns raised regarding the redirects I created for specific types of universities in China. It is my belief that these redirects are beneficial for both editors and readers, and here's why:
- Cultural and Administrative Specificity: It's important to note that the classification of universities based on their academic emphasis is a unique and significant aspect of China's higher education system. These aren't just broad terms but are official categories formulated by the Ministry of Education of China. The way China classifies its universities is distinct and not found in other countries, making these terms unique to the Chinese context.
- Convenience for Editors: When writing about Chinese universities, editors often need to reference these specific classifications. Having a redirect link to the "Types of universities and colleges in China" page will streamline the editing process and ensure consistency across Wikipedia articles.
- Enhancing Reader Comprehension: For readers unfamiliar with China's university classification system, these redirects offer immediate context. Without these redirects, a reader might be left wondering what a "Science and Engineering University" or a "Medicine and Pharmacy University" specifically refers to in the Chinese context.
- Addressing the Concern of Confusion: I understand the concerns about potential confusion. However, it's crucial to realize that these terms, when translated directly to English, are uniquely Chinese. A search for "Science and engineering university" in a global context would yield a myriad of results, but in the Chinese context, it refers to a specific classification. The redirect serves to educate and inform the reader about this distinct classification system.
- Content Enhancement: Regarding the comment that the target place doesn't provide much information on these universities, it offers a starting point. The Wikipedia page can be expanded in the future to provide more detailed information on each category, making the redirects even more valuable.
- Precedence: Wikipedia has numerous redirects for terms that might seem broad but are specific in certain cultural or national contexts. These redirects serve to guide readers to the most relevant information pertaining to their search.
- In conclusion, the purpose of these redirects is not to generalize or simplify but to offer clarity and context specific to China's higher education system. I kindly urge the community to consider the benefits these redirects bring to Wikipedia's global audience and the potential for expanding knowledge on a unique aspect of China's educational landscape. Three redirects pointing towards "Oldcastle Materials" which don't seem to be mentioned anywhere on Wikipedia, to my understanding. The only place on Wikipedia that mentions these three in any capacity is this help desk message from 2011, talking about the chain of events of being bought. Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Miscellaneous/2011 July 22#Arm-R-Clad Safety Tempered, although I'm not convinced that these subsidaries need redirects to the main article if there is no context available. Utopes (talk / cont) 01:03, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- HGP Industries should redirect to Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (references: [2][3][4]). Peter James (talk) 16:20, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- User:Peter James is correct, all three of these should point to Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (the incorrect target was an error on my part). Hordis Brothers (the owner of the Arm-R-Clad brand) sold to HGP, and HGP sold to OldCastle, I know there's a reference for this somewhere because I knew all of this from reading it in a source that more than likely meets WP:RS, I'm just not finding it at the moment. I figured it's worthwhile to create the redirect because there is a fair number of people on the internet posting on the Q&A websites about these defunct companies, and certain classic cars were made with "Arm-R-Clad" branded windows (which I guess are a rare find now), so users are likely to search Wikipedia for these companies. The article for Bigfoot lists it as a mythical creature. The purported scientific name is likely to be a misleading redirect, especially when such name is not listed at the target article. Utopes (talk / cont) 00:35, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Comment this is not misleading in the sense that the target is the only thing referred to by this name, but without a mention I'm unsure how useful it is. Thryduulf (talk) 10:19, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Keep. I'm not sure how this is misleading, as it is the proposed scientific name for a hoax once believed to be real. Obviously refers to Bigfoot. --(Roundish ✡t) 21:55, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Roundish: It is a scientific name, when this creature does not actually have an real scientific name because it doesn't exist. This name is not mentioned at the article, and it's completely unscientific due to the creature not existing, so as long as the article doesn't refer to any made-up / theoretical scientific name, this redirect is confusing for readers who wouldn't know why bigfoot has a scientific redirect that doesn't get discussed or debunked at the target article. Utopes (talk / cont) 09:20, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- But you would have to search for the scientific name to access the redirect. (Roundish ✡t) 12:33, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- Not necessarily, as there are other means of viewing redirects such as by seeing what pages link to a certain one. Redirects that contain completely standalone concepts which are not covered at the target page (for instance, the word "cognatus" appearing nowhere at the page), are often confusing to attuned readers that would be left guessing why the redirect exists without relevant information related to it, and confusing redirects should generally be removed. Utopes (talk / cont) 07:24, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
