- Chinese genocide → Nanjing Massacre (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
PlanespotterA320 decided to unilaterally retarget this from Uyghur genocide to Nanjing Massacre. Unfortunately, I cannot agree with this target as Nanjing Massacre is not frequently described as a genocide in reliable sources. Meanwhile, I tried searching Chinese genocide
on multiple search engines and most results I get refer to the Uyghur situation. To avoid an edit war I'm bringing it here for discussion. I would also be OK deleting it. (t · c) buidhe 22:31, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Some years ago this was a disambiguation page (deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chinese genocide). The dab page contained both war crimes against/persecution of Chinese people and war crimes/persecution of other ethnic groups perpetrated by Chinese people. In addition to the (recentism-biased) Uyghur results, Google also has some results about Tibet, but very little about genocide against Chinese. I can live with going back to Uyghurs, deletion, or even a new dab page, but "Nanjing Massacre" is not the primary target. —Kusma (𐍄·𐌺) 22:44, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Disambiguate. This seems like it could sensibly be refering to either event, and some of the sources in the Nanjing Massacre article do describe the event as a genocide. A google books search also turns up a load of results relating to the chinese occupation of Tibet and the ICJ's report on it (see History of Tibet (1950–present)#ICJ Human rights report so that could also be a plausible target, and the Organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners in China has also been described as a potential genocide, see [1]. There's probably more events that could be listed on a dab page as well that I have missed. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 22:55, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Probably delete is the best option based on the AfD and similar AfD of Turkish genocide (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turkish genocide). (t · c) buidhe 23:05, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- I think delete is best per buidhe. It seems that there's too many different suggested redirect targets. And I think having a disambiguation page for a vauge title like this would be sloppy.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 03:48, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- Delete. In addition to the targets suggested above, the Dungan Revolt (1862–1877), aspects of the Taiping Rebellion, and the Dzungar genocide have been described as genocides, and probably others too. The phrase is too ambiguous for a redirect and too vague for a disambiguation page. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 08:42, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- Delete. The term "Chinese genocide" is too ambiguous. And it is not commonly used to refer either Uyghur genocide or Nanking Massacre. Sun8908 Talk 11:10, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- Delete Too generic to refer to a specific event. There is also the Dzungar genocide in the 1750s, plus a 1740 Batavia massacre against people of Chinese ethnicity in the Dutch East Indies. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 04:28, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- Delete per above. Unlike, say, Tutsi Genocide which everyone associates with the Rwandan genocide, this is too ambiguous to refer to any genocide in Chinese history. Dominicmgm (talk) 10:31, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Not mentioned at the target, nor is its Japanese equivalent (急雨冬眠 or きゅうとううみん) mentioned at the linked jaWiki article as far as I can tell) and I was unable to find relevant results online. Delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 16:13, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Comment I made it because an article claimed that it was a term for a kind of people who have lived on the islands, I was intending to create a section on the article for terminology used by the population, but it totally slipped my mind. My bad. I don't mind if it's deleted as I'm kinda bussy with other suff right now and not focused on the articles in question.★Trekker (talk) 21:04, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Delete the correct Japanese orthography would be 旧島民, which just means "old/former island residents" (i.e. of any island in general, not just the Bonin Islands). 28 articles on Japanese Wikipedia use this term, including articles about some of the Bonin Islands, the Kuril Islands, Iriomote Island, and others. 61.239.39.90 (talk) 05:49, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Delete Does not appear in the target article, and miscapitalisation+redundancy makes this an implausible search term. Nothing of any use in the history. UnitedStatesian (talk) 05:56, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Delete, no relevant content in the target article; before it was redirected almost all of the content[3] was a copy of an old version of Medi, India[4]. April Fools is over. Implausible redirect that never gets used (except for yesterday). Was at RfD in 2007 but the discussion seems to have been lost to time. Anarchyte (talk • work) 05:08, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- (found old RfD) Keep, I think that this redirect is perfectly plausible – the mistake of confusing Wales with Whales or vice versa is well documented. WhatLinksHere and pageview stats both support the plausibility of this redirect. — J947 ‡ message ⁓ edits 05:27, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

- 400 page views since 2015 is an average of 0/day. Anarchyte (talk • work) 06:13, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep: Longstanding humour redirect; the Wales/Whales joke has been part of Wikipedia humour culture for perhaps as long as we've had a Wikipedia humour culture. The "only on April Fool's" pattern proposed by the nominator doesn't match the actual use charts, where the spikes have no correlation with the calendar. (I also might suspect that pageviews before what Pageviews Analysis can track were higher -- Jimbo jokes went out of fashion before 2015.) I would not expect soaringly high pageviews for niche insider humour. Vaticidalprophet 06:16, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep, both a longstanding redirect, and humor can happen outside of AFD. JackFromReedsburg (talk | contribs) 14:45, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep. Let's say I'm a wikinoob just listened to a podcast where Jimbo Wales was the guest and I wanted to know more about him. I check out the website that he was talking about, Wikipedia, and go to search for him. I didn't see his name anywhere since podcasts are audio only, so I have to guess at how his name is spelled. I can flip a coin and spell it like marine mammals or spell it like a Home Nation. If I guessed wrong, this redirect will be usefully employed to tell me that the coin flip was heads when I guessed tails. -- Tavix (talk) 02:30, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep - All jokes aside, this is definitely a plausible misspelling. A7V2 (talk) 04:45, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Implausible; unencyclopedic Firestar464 (talk) 04:03, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep, the archive was at that title (K4) for over 4 years, so there are significant amounts of old links coming in.
Unencyclopedic
is not a rationale that applies for redirects, much less for redirects outside mainspace. — J947 ‡ message ⁓ edits 04:39, 2 April 2021 (UTC) - Keep. The flame war on the page this targets was a piece of evidence in the Messhermit arbitration case, and this redirect is linked in the arbcom decision. Deleting this redirect would break the "findings of fact" section of that arbcom decision and make the evidence unnecessarily difficult to find. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 16:43, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Unlikely search term. Guy Macon (talk) 01:45, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep - EL stands for external links. This is a common term for Wikipedians so WP:ELORDER is not an "unlikely search term". Some Dude From North Carolina (talk) 02:19, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep Invalid assumption. It's more likely to be used in an edit summary or talk page discussion than a search term, but may be one as it becomes used. Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:53, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Delete Target section has nothing to do with order. Also note that the redirect was created today and doesn't have any uses. Dan Bloch (talk) 05:25, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- Um, @Danbloch, the target section says This External links section is one of the optional standard appendices and footers, which appear in a defined order at the bottom of the article. WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:15, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- Which supports my position. "Order" is a random word from that sentence. It would be just as legitimate to call it EL:OPTIONAL, EL:STANDARD, EL:DEFINED, etc. Calling it EL:SECTION, on the other hand, actually would make sense. Dan Bloch (talk) 05:55, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Retargeting to some part of Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout is an option (either to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout#Order of article elements or Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout#External links, but neither is perfect).
