Concordia Newsletter
Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.
Help out now!
- Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
- Give people the Civility Barnstar.
- Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
- Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
- Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.
We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.
Decision Making
The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.
If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

A word of thanks and a request for reviewing an article
Hi Wikileon, just wanna say thank you for fighting vandalism! I find that out because you have blocked the IP address that I'm using :P ... Anyway, I'm not here to complain, since I'm able to post comment on your page. Currently I had to use Wikimedia secured login to bypass the proxy. FYI I'm staying in a uni campus, so I'd to connect through a proxy. I have been blocked several times during the past week, and I couldn't do a thing since I am not aware of the use of secured login then. So may I suggest that the use of secured login be made more visible (e.g. inform the registered users)?
By the way, I have heavily edited the article Chung Ling High School, and I asked for advice from several admins but to no avail. So, if the conditions permit, would you like to review the article? I have faced several difficulties when re-editing and re-writing the article, mainly in citations and finding third-party sources. As far as I am concerned, there are very few third-party sources available for secondary schools in Malaysia, which the school is one. Therefore half of the sources are from publications of the school itself, and I'd have to translate several of them from Mandarin to English. I don't know whether translation of this kind constitutes original research, so please advise as well, if possible. In addition, please review the structure of the article, as there is no standard structure in the category, and I followed the style of Harvard University and Oxford University.
Sorry for appearing long-winded! I am glad if you could reply to the talk page of the school article, or directly to me. Thanks for reading and good day!

Iglesia ni Cristo project proposal
It looks like your project proposal now has enough support for a work group of a larger project. Five people might not be enough for a completely independent project, but I think that WikiProject Christianity might be amenable to taking on a subproject. Certainly, if they were asked, I would certainly lend whatever support I could, and would probably try to help with at least assessing articles, which is all I seem to do lately other than create new projects. Anyway, thought you might like to know. Badbilltucker 22:20, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not at all sure that expanding to include the JW's and Mormons would work, as Wikipedia:WikiProject Jehovah's Witnesses and Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement, both of which are somewhat active, might object. But it certainly could include some of the smaller Christian denominations which might be perceived as being non-mainstream. (I really, really work at being NPOV; it just don't work that often.) But there are a number of denominations which don't yet have specific coverage. You might look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory/Culture/Philosophy and religion#Christianity to see which already do have dedicated groups, and try to include some of the others. Badbilltucker 22:43, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Question about blocking
I notice you didn't take action against an IP Vandal I reported, and your edit summary read "not enough warnings. Fair enough, but if you look at her contributions, you'll see nothing but vandalism for the account. How many times must somebody be warned before they are blocked. It seems WP:AGF in this case is just a case of wishful thinking. Jeffpw 17:51, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Re:Iglesia ni Cristo
Hi, in this case there are no other external links, and so there doesn't need to be an empty 'external links' section... Sfacets 05:39, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Oh yes, you are right, didn't notice them... I have re-added the section header. Sfacets 06:00, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Conflict of interest
I find it troubling to see that you were involved in an edit dispute with Booooohhhaaya concurrent to blocking their username. This is a serious conflict of interest and violation of administrative powers (as it could be viewed as a form of intimidation). You should never block a user with whom you are involved in an edit dispute. If a similar case arises in the future, please ask another admin to block the user, or file an RFCN first. Kaldari 18:41, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explaination. I still don't quite understand your reasoning, however. You said that it was Jondel who reverted the edit, although you clearly reverted the edit as well (although you left it when it was added for the 3rd time). Either you disagreed with the edit (and thus were in an edit dispute) or you reverted the edit without looking at it (which is also a misuse of admin powers, but a much less serious one). Kaldari 18:56, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I think I understand now. I'm sure you can see how your actions appeared to violate protocol, however, regardless of your intentions. Please be more careful in the future when blocking is involved. Blocking should be treated as a last resort not a first course of action. Also you should consider asking the user to change their name before blocking them, unless their username is clearly not in good faith. Kaldari 19:49, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
If he asked the user to change his name he wouldn't get a power trip.
Hasty closure of RFC?
With all due respect, WikiLeon, I was dismayed to find that the RFC/NAME on User:Ahruman was closed and deleted just one minute after I had given detailed reasons for my "Strong Disallow" vote (last comment), reasons I had hoped might lead other commenters to reconsider and perhaps revise their votes. Now they can't do so, and may never even see my explanation. This closure was also less than three hours after the RFC was filed, preventing those whose online sessions are at other times of the day (and in other time zones around the world) from commenting; I would have thought 24 hours to be a reasonable minimum, especially when discussion is still ongoing. Also, the argument John Reaves gave for proposing a closure as "Allow" was "since there is only one person opposing this name". Once I cast another opposing vote (after his comment), his argument no longer applied. I really feel this was premature closure, and I wish you'd please reconsider, so others can read my comment and add their own. Ben 08:18, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- In the interest of fairness, I too think you should reopen this RFC. There really wasn't much time for a wide range of people to see it. John Reaves (talk) 16:35, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ooops, I suppose this could be considered a duh moment. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in procedure and forget about being bold. Thanks. John Reaves (talk) 23:17, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

About your inappropriate remarks
Hi, you accused me of a "bad faith nomination" on Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2007_February_5 and I'm extremely offended. May I please point you towards WP:AGF? Why are you treating people without accounts as second class citizens? -137.222.10.67 00:39, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Reply to your comments.
Firstly, sorry for not giving you notice - I was not aware that was policy since I'm relatively new to this. Secondly, people using IP addresses are actually showing more information than users who aren't - proxy or no proxy. I'm actually hiding less than if I was creating an account, and your suspicious of people using IP addresses is completely and utterly unfounded and I think you should think about that. Thirdly, yours was one I spotted on someone's user page - I was quite simply not aware of any others. -137.222.10.67 01:16, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

With the MariahCharts.com sources, I have only been fixing references on the Christina Aguilera article. I have not added any sources. However, I did remove two references on the article that came from Answers.com, and I didn't consider them to be reliable sources, as Answers.com often takes information that's on Wikipedia. Tila Nguyen
Hi, Leon.
There's a problem about the Tila Nguyen page. Although I have no live references to what I've added on it, I assure you, they're all facts. I'm Ivan of Alief, Houston, TX, and as far as I'm concerned, people here are starting to look down upon Wikipedia for providing such false information about her since Wikipedia is used heavily here for researching. This is why it led me to alter the page and provide sufficent data. I do have the hard copy of the middle school and high school year Tila was in and would use it to put on Wikipedia. However, I am concerned about the copyrights of the schools and privacy act that have been enforced upon it. Another problem is that there seems to be another user that's altering the page consecutively and using false information about Tila based on phony websites. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ivanaiden (talk • contribs) 07:59, 24 February 2007 (UTC).

Fair use rationale for Image:Opera 3.62.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Opera 3.62.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. KonstableSock 11:47, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Main Page alternative (Simple English style)
Hello. I just categorized Main Page alternative (Simple English style) and fixed a few things in it. Still, you might want to work on it a bit more because although it's a nice idea, it's currently full of red links and I'm not so sure it makes sense to keep a Main Page alternative that cannot actually be used as a real alternative. Perhaps some sort of redirect to the simple English Main Page would be a better idea. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 03:40, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

With regard to your block of User:Rcbookpublishing
You recently imposed a usernameblock on User:Rcbookpublishing, with an added note on spamming. This editor had earlier been contacted (see User tallk:Rcbookpublishing which is now redirected to User talk:Factfinder52) about the username that was also a company name. The user quickly responded on his talk page and made a request to change his username. He is operating in good faith.
He subsequently left a note on his talk page, confused as to why he was blocked when he had made the request. I left a note. It seems that you might not have been aware that the editor had been earlier notified, and the name had come up on WP:RFCN.
It might be helpful if you would leave a note on his page and perhaps withdraw the usernameblock notice. It seems that his request to change username has been accepted as his is now User:Factfinder52.

I was thinking more or less the same thing. To be honest, I saw this as an opportunity to step back from the intensity of this article without fear of finding it slashed and burned, as happened once before. I know a couple of other editors felt the same way. Once the MfD on the fork is finished, I'll turn my mind to drafting up the various options - I seem to be one of the few people who genuinely doesn't care about the founder issue, as long as the edit warring stops. Image:The Best of Giorgio Moroder.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:The Best of Giorgio Moroder.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 05:44, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Eve Laurence
I would like to know your reasoning behind speedy keeping Eve Laurence. Epbr123 19:19, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Since the previous Afd, there was a big change in the WP:PORNBIO notability criteria. It was agreed by users on the WP:PORNBIO talk-page that the number of films an actress has appeared in does not establish her notability. There was a clear consensus for this and it is not apparent that this rule will be reversed in the near future. The article survived the previous Afd solely by the fact that she had appeared in over 100 films. Epbr123 20:15, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
I've actually just come here to ask you the same thing. As Epbr123 can tell you, I don't agree with the mass-nominating, but I've made an honest attempt to find a way each one passes WP:PORNBIO, and haven't found any grounds in this case - you seem to have speedy-kept on the grounds of one keep !vote - iridescenti (talk to me!) 22:24, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
WP Christianity
Hi, I saw your name on the WikiProject Christianity Membership page.
I've made some changes to the WP Christianity main project page, added several sup-project pages, created a few task forces section, and proposed several more possible changes so that we can really start making some serious progress on the project. Please stop by and see my comments on the project talk page here and consider joining a task force or helping out with improving and contributing to our sub-projects. Thanks for your time! 15 Songs For You
Hoax!
Can't believe anyone can think this is a hoax just google 'Christina Aguilera 15 Songs For You' or do a search at thepiratebay.org or http://db2.btjunkie.org/
I cited just one of the sources of the album which is nearing 200,000 downloads, artwork has been created exactly the same as Britney Spears: The Unreleased but no one is doubting that particular album exists!
And let's look at the definition of Album from Wiki:
"An album or record album is a collection of related audio or music tracks distributed to the public. The most common way is through commercial distribution, although smaller artists will often distribute directly to the public by selling their albums at live concerts or on their websites."
This is a new phenomenon where fans take tracks from cd-singles released to other markets than the US, contributions on other artists albums (all cited) etc then share them via the internet!

Here's a couple of tracks for you to check out:

Just because it can't be bought in the shops means nothing, my wife is overjoyed at having something rare by one of her favourite artists on her ipod.

I don't do hoaxes but I do work on Wiki articles that are of interest to me and always cite.
See my entries on the Discography Talk Page
I'm actually a Genesis, Pink Floyd and Journey fan, I created this as it's an internet phenomenon so please take off this 'Hoax' banner and put the link back on the Discography page.

Thank you
I am most grateful for your message, which has provided me with a warm welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you know that admins engaged in vandal fighting are also entitled to the benefit of the WP:AGF rule.--Runcorn 22:36, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
RE:User:VidGmr
No offense, but I'm probably not; I reported a similar user a long time ago: not one person looked at it. After a few weeks, I just withdrew it with no constructive result, and now that same person, who's not VidGmr, is still loose. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions ♣ 22:22, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Excuse me, but I was minding my own business, till this guy comes along and starts harrassing me of being a sock puppet...VidGmr 01:12, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- You've done everything that Craxy's other puppets have done: you wrote an entire GTA story (Ptpgta (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)), your diarrhetic use of homosexual slurs (Markello (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) and Craxy (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log), along with others), and even your use of exclamation points give you away. Face it, I know you're a puppet. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions ♣ 01:19, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Everybody can make long stories like that too. I was doing fine and wasn't going to do anything, but then you come along and start messing with this crap, just stay away from me. And face it, I know you like guys, so stay away from me, I don't want no trouble, get lost, and stay off my talk page boy. VidGmr 02:57, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yours was exactly the same as Ptpgta. Coincidence? ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions ♣ 18:22, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- No it wasn't, and even if it was, you shouldv'e just left me alone and there wouldn't be trouble. VidGmr 18:44, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
AIV report
Howdy. I noticed that you disregarded my post to the Administrator's Noticeboard regarding vandalism from the IP address 206.67.179.4. The alert was posted with this edit and removed with this edit with the edit summary indicating that no vandalism had occurred. I would appreciate elaboration on how this IP's edits do not constitute vandalism. Usually my alerts stick and are enforced -- I would prefer not to post warnings which are not enforceable or appropriate for the administrator's noticeboard. Sláinte! --Bossi (talk ;; contribs) 23:03, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've checked the contrib history on the IP at the time, and I couldn't find any vandalistic edits, or I may have missed it. But I did see a self reverted test edit. --wL<speak·check> 06:31, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- There are a number of edits involving changes to established values: [3] [4]; tests/vandalism: [5] [6] [7] [8]; and self-rv's of questionable edits: (1a) (1b) (2a) (2b). Though, fortunately, it seems the user has left for the time being as the user has not made any recent edits. With regards to self-rv's, what is the admin ruling on those? What if the first edit is blatant vandalism and the second removes it -- the user may still get kicks out of cluttering the edit history; and as my little cousin has demonstrated firsthand: some people think it's clever to share their vandal links with friends to show they got away with it. If a user makes numerous vandal edits followed by self-rv's, is that enforcable; or would many admins consider enforcing it? I suppose the real question is: how much good faith is too much? Thanks for your input! --Bossi (talk ;; contribs) 08:40, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I see you added a "Wikipedian bio" template to that talk page, but it doesn't say which username was involved, and that's now required by the template. Please feel free to add it back if you have that info. I don't need a reply. Thanks. --kingboyk 20:29, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi!
Hi, I'm KoMuNeRo_MaG and I've had problems with the proxys and my IP have stayed blocked for a few weeks. I'm from the Spanish Wikipedia, KoMuNeRo_MaG. You blocked me and I can't tell you my problem.
For another time, can you give me the notice before block the IP and the proxy? :S

Hi,
I am an administrator at Tauranga Boys' College, and would like to know why our entire network has been blocked from editing Wikipedia. There are literally thousands of students (and staff) wishing to use this Encyclopedia as a reference and information resource for schoolwork. Please reconsider your decision, or at least state your reasons. Thanks, - Tbcadmin 04:42, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:E-40 - My Ghetto Report Card.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:E-40 - My Ghetto Report Card.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:13, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

In regards to your recent edits to the article, the "History" section is split from the lead, per WP:LEAD. See also WP:SPOILER on use of spoiler tags. Just64helpin 00:52, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- The lead should never contain information exclusive to itself. The history section was specifically created to adhere to WP:LEAD. The lead does not 'tease' anything. It summarizes the History and Plot sections. Feel free to expand the lead, though. As for the spoilers, please read WP:SPOILER where it specifically states tags should not be placed in a Plot section. Just64helpin 01:34, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Researching Wikipedia Online Survey
We are conducting research into the role of social norms in online communication. This research is funded by the European Union and is being undertaken by a coalition of European Universities (see http://emil.istc.cnr.it/?q=node/8). The research is designed to help us understand how social norms interact with the technology that supports online collaboration. We have selected 35 Wikipedia articles flagged as controversial for study. We are analysing the interactions on the discussion pages and are also seeking additional input from contributors to those discussions.
As a participant in the recent discussion about a controversial topic - Christina Aguilera, I would be very grateful if you could follow the link to a simple questionnaire. This should take only 2 minutes to complete.
