WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 4
Hello friends! We have been hard at work these past two months. For this report:
For the first time, we are happy to bring you an exhaustive, comprehensive WikiProject Directory. This directory endeavors to list every single WikiProject on the English Wikipedia, including those that don't participate in article assessment. In constructing the broadest possible definition, we have come up with a list of approximately 2,600 WikiProjects. The directory tracks activity statistics on the WikiProject's pages, and, for where it's available, statistics on the number of articles tracked by the WikiProject and the number of editors active on those articles. Complementing the directory are description pages for each project, listing usernames of people active on the WikiProject pages and the articles in the WikiProject's scope. This will help Wikipedians interested in a subject find each other, whether to seek feedback on an article or to revive an old project. (There is an opt-out option.) We have also come up with listings of related WikiProjects, listing the ten most relevant WikiProjects based on what articles they have in common. We would like to promote WikiProjects as interconnected systems, rather than isolated silos.
A tremendous amount of work went into preparing this directory. WikiProjects do not consistently categorize their pages, meaning we had to develop our own index to match WikiProjects with the articles in their scope. We also had to make some adjustments to how WikiProjects were categorized; indeed, I personally have racked up a few hundred edits re-categorizing WikiProjects. There remains more work to be done to make the WikiProject directory truly useful. In the meantime, take a look and feel free to leave feedback at the WikiProject X talk page.
What have we been working on?
- A new design template—This has been in the works for a while, of course. But our goal is to design something that is useful and cleanly presented on all browsers and at all screen resolutions while working within the confines of what MediaWiki has to offer. Additionally, we are working on designs for the sub-components featured on the main project page.
- A new WikiProject talk page banner in Lua—Work has begun on implementing the WikiProject banner in Lua. The goal is to create a banner template that can be usable by any WikiProject in lieu of having its own template. Work has slowed down for now to focus on higher priority items, but we are interested in your thoughts on how we could go about creating a more useful project banner. We have a draft module on Test Wikipedia, with a demonstration.
- New discussion reports—We have over 4.8 million articles on the English Wikipedia, and almost as many talk pages as well. But what happens when someone posts on a talk page? What if no one is watching that talk page? We are currently testing out a system for an automatically-updating new discussions list, like RFC for WikiProjects. We currently have five test pages up for the WikiProjects on cannabis, cognitive science, evolutionary biology, and Ghana.
- SuggestBot for WikiProjects—We have asked the maintainer of SuggestBot to make some minor adjustments to SuggestBot that will allow it to post regular reports to those WikiProjects that ask for them. Stay tuned!
- Semi-automated article assessment—Using the new revision scoring service and another system currently under development, WikiProjects will be getting a new tool to facilitate the article assessment process by providing article quality/importance predictions for articles yet to be assessed. Aside from helping WikiProjects get through their backlogs, the goal is to help WikiProjects with collecting metrics and triaging their work. Semi-automation of this process will help achieve consistent results and keep the process running smoothly, as automation does on other parts of Wikipedia.
Want us to work on any other tools? Interested in volunteering? Leave a note on our talk page.
The database report which lists WikiProjects according to the number of watchers (i.e., people that have the project on their watchlist), is back! The report stopped being updated a year ago, following the deactivation of the Toolserver, but a replacement report has been generated.
Until next time,

Delta/Niki at Mumbai
Delta dropped BOM-AMS route on 27 March 2015 as per http://airlineroute.net/2014/11/25/dl-amsbom-s15update/ and http://www.indiatourismreview.com/news/delta-air-lines-stop-air-service-between-mumbai-and-amsterdam/15205 (per delta.com, flights from BOM to AMS requires connections at other airports). Niki flights from BOM to VIE are bookable but they are not nonstop (they require 2 stops and change of carriers). Actually, these are codeshare flights now which are NOT to be listed as per WP:AIRPORT-CONTENT. 97.85.113.113 (talk) 04:37, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Motorcycle taxis in India
I get the impression that motorcycle taxis are a form of transport where the passenger rides pillion and they are used because of the lack of a (functional) transport system, probably during certain hours of the day or night, and maybe the roadways are better suited to two-wheeled transport. If this is correct, you might want to add this to the introduction. Cheers! Rohini (talk) 05:41, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Rohini: Thanks. :) Motorcycle taxis, indeed are where the passenger rides pillion. In the case of Goa, they run on fixed fares, in Mumbai, they're metred, though they're on hold as the govt has announced that it will bring it under the ambit of the law. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 06:19, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

You reverted an editor with this revision. I do not think that rolling back an edit in the way you did was warranted, even if a normal revert was warranted. You left no edit summary either. This kind of behavior is what helps to chase away potentially good contributors, so maybe it would have helped had you given a reason? Dustin (talk) 21:43, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
- I left a message on the editor's talk page. I just think it's more fair when you leave a summary when reverting good faith, potentially constructive users. Dustin (talk) 21:52, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Your "Automated bots" are out of line
I made some constructive edits to an article, the Good God's Urge album article, by cleaning up the phrasing and by reorganizing the sentence structure, etc. I did NOT add any new data whatsoever, just expanded on what was already there and made it a little more reader-friendly. Your "auto bots" immediately deleted my changes for "not citing sources" (WTF?!? I didn't add any new info, so there are no sources to cite?).
I try to contribute to Wikipedia in a constructive way by editing articles and making them more reader friendly. I rarely actually add information, and if I do, I'll cite a source.
I have an extremely strong urge to use expletives here, but I'm going to refrain myself. Can you please kindly turn off your worthless auto-bots and let actual humans tend to things. Crap like this makes ACTUAL CONTRIBUTORS like myself want give up and walk away, when something I've put thought and work into is instantly, irreverently erased by a mindless robot.
Thanks for your "help," but no thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.54.4.133 (talk) 19:46, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- @208.54.4.133: 1. I'm not helping anyone here, neither are you. 2. Stop shouting, we're all volunteers here. 3. There is no automated bot, I made those edits myself and I knowingly undid your edits.
Please provide off source for your edits. If not me, someone else will undo it. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:49, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Are you not listening to me? I DID NOT ADD ANY NEW MATERIAL. There is nothing I need to cite sources for.
Let me say it one more time for you: I *reorganized* and *restructured* the content that was *already there* into a more reader-friendly format. There was a whole paragraph that didn't make any sense at all. I cleaned up the EXISTING INFORMATION. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.54.4.133 (talk) 20:01, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Mumbai edits
Dear Rsrikanth05 (talk · contribs) Sir, Im confused about my and your revert edits on Mumbai etymology, Kolis speak mostly dialects of Marathi and Konkani so how can Kolis have Marathi as their lingua franca? Dongar Kathorekar (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 17:36, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- I undid your edit because you mentioned the rest of Maharashtra. When the name Mumbai was coined, Mumbai was inhabited by the Kolis and there was technically no Maharashtra. P.S: Don't call me sir, please. -_Rsrikanth05 (talk) 18:03, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
Ok Rsrikanth05 buddy, But Kolis also along with Marathi exist as ethnically Gujarati. So can we mention specific tribe or specific strata of Koli community who regarded Marathi as their mother tongue. The Kolis have Marathi as mother tongue makes me stressed out as it ignores their Gujarati relation Dongar Kathorekar (talk)
Rsrikanth05 How can you say that i did irrelevant edit by reverting the "Ndtvdirtyhindi" phrase from the ref name regarding 19th number citation of Mumbai, You are a senior contributing editor than me and more matured than me so i felt unusual. Now you have added Ndtvdirtycity is absolutely fair Dongar Kathorekar (talk)
- Note. I didn't call the edit irrelevant. I only said that Hindi being the Official language of the GoI was irrelevant in this context. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:29, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
Rsrikanth05 Mumbai is the capital city of. Maharashtra and Maharashtra Times is a well known paper and is not certainly a primary source. The prompt url with proper inline citations are provided. Wiki has objections only upon biased info. Dongar Kathorekar (talk) 06:01, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- I never said anything about Mumbai and Maharashtra. All I said was, if an English source is available, it is preferred over any other language. However, that does not stop anyone from adding a Hindi or Gujarati, or Telugu source to the article. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 06:08, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Acid throwing
I edited the section under the header "epidemiology" of acid throwing to remove Ethiopia. Googling "Acid attacks in Ethiopia" brings up two notable results for the first few pages, one in 2007 and another in 2011. Ethiopia does not have a particularly high incidence of acid attacks, and the BBC article of the 2007 attack makes direct reference to that fact. I felt it was prudent to move Ethiopia from the "frequent incidents" category to the "reported incidents" category.
In addition, the PDF used as the source for the "high frequency of acid attacks in Ethiopia" in the section detailing acid attacks in Africa had that exact same BBC article as its own reference as to the high frequency of acid attacks in the country, which explicitly states the contrary; that Ethiopia is not known for a high frequency of this type of attack. Therefore, I removed Ethiopia from that sentence entirely. Would you please restore my edits?

- I did. I undid it because the well, this is an encyclopedia. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 17:47, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Sexuality in Christian demonology article
May I know why on Earth do you keep reverting my edits in this article? Unencyclopedic content, REALLY? I've provided a source for every single paragraph, and they're relevant sources for the matter at hand, not some bullshit taken from websites. I've read myself those sources, something I doubt you've done. You can read them and see for yourself if I've invented something. The original article, on the other hand, was full of unreferenced garbage, personal speculations or plainly false statements (such as the lack of angel/demon gender in Paradise Lost). Do you think that demons or angels have no gender in Christianism? Well, then give something to prove that they don't; I don't care one way or another. On the other hand, I've provided sources that clearly state they have. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.154.247.85 (talk) 15:42, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Good article status
Can Solapur city article be given good status?? Dongar Kathorekar (talk) 16:07, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Nope. Not in the current form. It needs a lot of new sources; I can see half a dozen Citation Needed tags, plus, it needs some serious copyediting. It will take substantial editing to get it to GA. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 17:06, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

2012 Delhi gang rape
Hello,
Why were my contributions about the female victim's name deleted ? Actually the woman's name is Jyoti Singh and not Jyoti Singh Pandey. [1]
There must have been a confusion about the fact that the man who was with her that night was her friend and not her husband. Besides, I don't understand why the woman should be named by her family name and not her first name (as it is many times in the article), and why Awindra Pandey is often referred as "her friend". - Heya, @Kendall-K1:, I am extremely sorry about the revert. I just got a bit confused. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 17:13, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- No worries, it was pretty obvious what happened, and I try to maintain a sense of humor about these things. Kendall-K1 (talk) 18:36, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
