Editing practice
[edit]Hi, Please learn correct citation style. We don't put links directly from the text to the outside. Wikipedia:Citing sources is a place to start, but also you can check how other editors do it. Even when you move the links to the correct place, you should give more than a raw url as they always disappear eventually. Give an author, if possible, title, name of publication, date, so that dead links can be refreshed later. Incidentally, INN is not considered a reliable source for information about settlements so you should replace it. I will leave what you wrote at Migdal Oz for now to give you the chance to fix it, but fixing it is essential. Zerotalk 00:21, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
Also, you marked your edits as "minor" but they are not. See Help:minor edits. Zerotalk 00:22, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

- Hi, Thank you for noticing, it is a great help Owenglyndur (talk) 13:50, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
Hello. I saw you amended some of the text, and sourced it to the village website. However, the village website says that its text is sourced from Wikipedia, so it cannot be used as a reference. The Hebrew wiki article is very well referenced, so I would advise translating from there instead. Cheers, Number 57 22:26, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

- Apologies if I wasn't clear initially – I wasn't asking for more sources, I was suggesting a complete rewrite of the early history section, basing it on translating the Hebrew Wikipedia's history of the village and using those sources. I have now deleted the bit sourced from a source that used Wikipedia as its source. Number 57 21:12, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Translating
[edit]Hi, I noticed that you're translating articles from he.wiki, which is great. Most of them are probably okay, but just bear in mind that articles need to pass our (en.wiki) requirements for referencing, notability, etc. In other words, merely existing in another language version of Wikipedia is not enough to justify inclusion in another version, as each version is an entirely separate project with their own rules and requirements (and, AFAIK at least, en.wiki is probably the strictest in that sense). Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:43, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- Ok,

Thanks for your contributions to Hovlata. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources and it's a text dump of a Google translation of a Hebrew Wikipedia article. Copyright issues
[edit]Hello Owenglyndur! Your additions to Ein Gedi synagogue have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's elegibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Richard Nevell (talk) 19:37, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Owenglyndur, the same issue is evident in your newly created article, Ein Gedi (archaeological site). In your edit summary you indicated that the article has been translated from the Hebrew Wikipedia; is there perhaps a problem with the Hebrew Wikipedia entries on these two topics? Richard Nevell (talk) 19:11, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments, I did my best in the translation and editing so there will not be any copy violations. Please can you let me know where? how? can you see copy issues? Owenglyndur (talk) 07:34, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Using Google Translate to check the Hebrew version of the entry for Ein Gedi archaeological site, the two paragraphs of text identified as being a copyright violation are not present; they were added before the text currently at the start of the 'היסטוריה' section.
- With the article on the Ein Gedi synagogue, the situation seems to be the same with the copyrighted text introduced before the text at the start of the section titled 'ממצאי החפירות'. It also appears that your edit to the Hebrew article introduced a copyright violation.
- Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policy regarding copyright violations? Wikipedia:Copyright violations.
- It looks like content has been copied from journal articles and pasted into Wikipedia with minimal changes. Unless the text is already available under a Wikipedia compatible open licence, this is a breach of copyright. Richard Nevell (talk) 19:18, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Regarding your first comment, your complain is about a text that isn't there anymore? did i understand you correctly?
- Regarding your second comment i revised the text, i hope it is suitable now Owenglyndur (talk) 12:06, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- The issue is that though your edit summary when creating the article on Ein Gedi (archaeological site) indicated you translated the article from Hebrew, you introduced copyrighted text from another source. This has since been removed, as has some copyrighted text at Ein Gedi synagogue, but there may be other instances, especially as I have also discovered issues with Khirbet el-Qutt.
- The part of the synagogue article that you reworded in this edit does not appear to have been copied from the source, so was not problematic for that reason.
- You've created dozens of articles in just a couple of months. May I suggest that you change focus to checking over the content you have created to make sure that it isn't breaching Wikipedia's policy on copyright violations? If it has happened it is something that can be fixed, but if we don't address it now I am concerned that it will get out of hand. There are training materials like this module which explain copyright and how to avoid plagiarism and close paraphrasing. Richard Nevell (talk) 18:11, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

There is now evidently some level of copyright violation in Deir ed Darb. If I find more evidence of copyright violations, I will look into opening an investigation. Richard Nevell (talk) 22:26, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Khirbet Kelafa
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Khirbet Kelafa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 16:28, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

331dot - I understand that in articles I have written before I used texts copied from the sources I provided, which violates Wikipedia's policy. The text I copied and presented in the article was published on Wikipedia without the permission of the copyright holder. Furthermore, I translated some texts word for word, which also violates Wikipedia's policy. I know that even using texts that were very slightly changed or altered, violates Wikipedia's policy. The same goes for texts that remain close, similar or might be linguistically resembling the source or sources on which I based the article also violates Wikipedia's policy. I know that all the text I write and text I translate from any source, must be done using my own words. As I pointed out in my request to remove the block, articles I created lately, have zero percentage of copyright violation. Owenglyndur (talk) 12:37, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

I would advise against unblocking this user until they have clearly demonstrated they know and respect the seriousness of close paraphrasing. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 15:40, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Request reason:
Hi, I understand what you are saying. When I mentioned that I used the Copyvio Detector tool, I understood that it was one of the tools that was used to check my articles, and so I thought that it was ok for me to use too. I didn't mean that I used it as a mean to commit copyright violation without getting caught, nor that I am relying on it as a justification for being unblocked. I meant that I have been using it to make sure I don't make the same mistakes I made before. I can assure you that what I have been writing since the block, and with full intention that what I will write in the future, has been and will be done using my own words, with content fully sourced but not copied or paraphrased. I have admitted my mistakes and took full responsibility for them. I am asking you to reconsider my request to be unblocked. Owenglyndur (talk) 07:31, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
Decline reason:
I don't believe that it's in Wikipedia's best interest to unblock you while other editors have to spend their volunteer time extensively reviewing your edits at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20240707. I understand that it's frustrating to hear and it is hard to tell editors who want to edit that they can't, but copyright is a really big deal and being the subject of a current CCI is pretty much an automatic decline for me. Ponyobons mots 20:39, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
AirshipJungleman29 I'm sorry if it is inappropiate but I tagged you because I recieved no response. I hope it's alright and apoplogize in advance if not. Thank you. Owenglyndur (talk) 13:16, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Scopus stone vessels cave
[edit]Hi @Arminden I am currently blocked so i can't reply on the page, i thank you for your edits on the article i published it really helps. Toda ;) Owenglyndur (talk) 06:46, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Sir Owen. My pleasure. If you could please give me here some hints on how to deal with those open questions, I'd be most grateful.
- Enjoy your time off! I mean it :) Arminden (talk) 10:25, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi again, as i wrotre on the page Talk itself, the main source i used was deleted and i then added it again. The source itself is from a hard copy of - "Qadmoniot" issue No. 122, and in it, it's written about the inscriptions of the letters ON/IN, the Ossuaries and so on, basically it answers this:
- Greek letters
- Charcoal
- Tombs - or burials or cemeteries
- Ossuaries
- I do not remember adding the source by Atkinson, So all the information i wrote was based on this article, with touches by Magen:
- עמית ד', זליגמן י' זילברבוד א' תשס"ב. מחצבה בית מלאכה לייצור כלי אבן במורד הר הצופים. קדמוניות 102:122–110. Owenglyndur (talk) 12:06, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I don't get it.
- 1. Atkinson's "Pirates" is still quoted 5 times. Shall I replace ALL FIVE with Yitzhak Magen's Qadmoniot article? If not, any idea what it's all about?
- 2. There are no Greek letters ON/IN. You can use two Greek letters to write IN, and another two to write ON, like you do with Latin letters, but that's something else. Can you please check again what Y. Magen might have meant? And is it "ON or IN" (one inscription), or "ON and IN" (two inscriptions)?
- 3. Also there: you translated "a delicate drawing of a flower". If you use Google Translate for the Hebrew article, you get "plant models" (maybe better in English: vegetal patterns?). Which one is correct? Maybe Magen published photos of it, you can look them up and judge what they show. It's a bit of OR, but I'm sure it's OK. A flower is a flower (naturalistic depiction, details); a rosette like the Herodian ones is a geometrically simplified flower-like pattern (see photo of sarcophagus at Herodium#Tomb of Herod); and vegetal patterns, like those on the facade of the Cave of Jehoshaphat behind the Tomb of Absalom (see here), are again something else (vines, acanthus leaves, grapes, etc.).
- 4. Regarding the use of ritually pure stone vessels: Y. Adler's "Jewish Purity Practices in Roman Judea: The Evidence of Archaeology" is NOT at the indicated URL (www
.academia ). Instead, this URL leads to the 1st page (only) of another work by Y. Adler, "The Decline of Jewish Ritual Purity Observance in Roman Palaestina: An Archaeological Perspective on Chronology and Historical Context", in: Expressions of Cult in the Southern Levant in the Greco-Roman Period. Manifestations in Text and Material Culture (eds. Oren Tal and Zeev Weiss; Contextualizing the Sacred Series, 6; Turnhout: Brepols), 269–284. So it's completely wrong. What is the actual cited source, "Jewish Purity Practices...", or "The Decline..."?.edu /33380097 - As a detail: academia.edu is not a journal, it's more like an online academic library.
- 4. Regarding the use of ritually pure stone vessels: Y. Adler's "Jewish Purity Practices in Roman Judea: The Evidence of Archaeology" is NOT at the indicated URL (www
- 5. Y. Magen's "The stoneware industry..." is on Google Books (here), but GB only offers snippets. I don't master the Hebrew language. Could you please see (trial and error?) what search words lead to the relevant pages, even in snippets? We would then be able to add a better URL and the page number(s) as ref details for those interested.
- 6. Both photos are yours, both are showing a cave entrance with 2 pillars. I take it from the dig publication that the ancient entrance was through a sunken oval courtyard, from which the 2 caves could be accessed. The bulldozer has broken through an outer wall, creating a 2nd entrance, enlarged during exploration.
- So, what are your photos showing: the ancient entrance to one of the caves, seen from/toward the suken oval courtyard? Or the 2nd, modern entrance, probably facing the modern road the bulldozer worked on?
- 6 questions for the article. One more for my own curiosity: did you go in in 2022? Was the entrance you used accessible? From Road 4177, where it exits the tunnel under Augusta Victoria? Is there anything to be seen other than the cave and, presumably, lots of garbage?
- Thanks a lot Owen! Arminden (talk) 14:09, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
Hi, Arminden thank you for your comments
- I did not read Atkinson so have no idea about what he sais or why he is cited.
- In the article by Amit, Zeligman etc. (again hard copy) which i based this artcvile on its written and i translate freely: "on one of the pillars the Greek letters ON, IN were curved in two rows, between them a charciol sketch of a flower-like pattern. This answers also yor third question
- Amit does say the flower-like pattern might have been a design used for ossuaries or tables,
- This is the correct source https://www.jstor.org/stable/26749426
- Regarding your question of Y. Magen, Amit repeats the same claim in his article, so it is possible to cite him on the relevant place the No. 4 citation is
- Answerring bothe No. 6 questions: I was there, parked my car at the side of the road and there is an oval entrance. I took one picture while facing the upper cave as there is an entrance to the second cave to the right which is at a lower level. the second picture was taken inside the the first cave. Surprisingly enough both cave are clean without garbage, sorry i can't attach pictures here so you can see the inside view of both caves.
- Thanks for your help Shabbat Shalom :)

- Hi Owen G., and thanks.
- Please mind that you need to ping me. I only got here today by chance. The template you used,
- @[[User:Arminden|Arminden]]
- doesn't seem to launch any signalling on my page or by email. I'm using, from case to case, following templates which all work (send signals):
- {{ping|Owenglyndur}}
- {{hidden ping|Owenglyndur}}
- {{u|Owenglyndur}}
- Regarding the stray source, Atkonson's "Pirates": sorry, but it was you who introduced it, see here. :From there it proliferated. Typical copy-paste mistake, happens to all of us. Now the question is: what source did you mean to quote there? Again, this must be fixed, we still have 5 important passages mistakenly using this reference. Thanks!
- Regarding the charcoal image: please, could you go to your hard copy and look for the pictures there? It sounds like we're talking about a rosette, like the one down here, not a flower:
- I'll go now through your other kind answers. Cheers, Arminden (talk) 08:17, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm starting to lose it. Regarding Adler's paper, you're now sending me to a THIRD different article:
- חידושים במחקר כלי אבן־הקִרטון היהודיים בתקופה הרומית - New Insights in the Study of Roman Period Jewish Chalk Vessels
- by Y. Adler, in Qadmoniot Vol. נ"ב, No. 157 (תשע"ט / 2019), pp. 2-17
- We already had
- "Jewish Purity Practices in Roman Judea: The Evidence of Archaeology"
- and
- "The Decline of Jewish Ritual Purity Observance in Roman Palaestina: An Archaeological Perspective on Chronology and Historical Context".
- Sorry, but you really need to be more careful when you edit. Which one is it now? Please make sure and then confirm, I can't just go on replacing titles until we're sure we got the right one. Thanks, Arminden (talk) 08:42, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, @Arminden:
- 1, Regarding the Atkinson article, i read through it, it has nothing to do here, i have no idea how and why it came up or is used as a source. The source must be David Amit's artiicle for the introduction. So please remove Atkinson for Good, so we don't have to deal with it again.
- 2. The hard copy has no picture of the charcoil. But in an article by Jon Seligman on page 204 there is a picture of the letters and leaves. You can use it too - https://www.academia.edu/113092777/A_Second_Temple_Period_Chalk_Quarry_and_Vessel_Production_Cave_Complex_on_Mount_Scopus_Jerusalem
- 3. Thet article is the one by Jon Seligman is good to use for the entire article as it sums up th whole work on the site.
- 4. Adler's article is good to use for the part about ossuaries as one of the products manufactured at the stone vessel cave.
- 5. I hope i was helpfull.
- Owenglyndur (talk) 11:07, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, very helpful even!
- I found an English article by the same authors, Amit et al., and it solves most problems while being accessible and understandable to everyone here. But not all of them, so this here helps. Have a great day! Arminden (talk) 13:53, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, @Arminden:
- Thanks man for your effort to undo my mess. If i can help in the future let me know. Have a nice day. Owenglyndur (talk) 14:32, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
- Please, don't take it that way :) It's a team effort, and grumpy as I may sound, I do greatly prefer a somewhat imperfect article to none whatsoever. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Arminden (talk) 15:49, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
Horvat Sumaqa
[edit]Hi @Arminden Regarding you questions about this articke i went over it history and saw i never wrote nor mentiond these three time periods: Bronze, Iron Ages & Hellenistic, Ottoman periods. The sources i cited do not mention them either, I did more reseach but all Academic article note the Byzantine and Roman period.
Regarding the Crusader and Mamluk remains, the source does mention reamians from that time period, but does not say exactly what they are. As you can read here: https://www.jstor.org/stable/23675989
Thank you again Owenglyndur (talk) 11:42, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
DYK for Canaanite shipwreck
[edit]On 19 August 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Canaanite shipwreck, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a shipwreck in the eastern Mediterranean, dating from the Late Bronze Age, is the earliest deep-sea shipwreck to be discovered? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Orca Shipwreck. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Canaanite shipwreck), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Bar Kokhba hiding complexes
[edit]Hi @Arminden I am still blocked so i hope you see this messege. Regarding your question about the photo in the article taken at KHIRBAT EL-‘EIN. The site is located a bit north of Beit Guvrin. I am sure it is part of a hiding complex, i had a friend up the stairs with a torch while i was down by the entrance taking the picture. The entrance was curved at side of a cave used as an oil press. The entrance to the burial cave looks diferent, i have pictures of that too. @Arminden
Deletion discussion about Judea Samaria and the Golan – the archaeological survey of 1968
[edit]Hello Owenglyndur, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Judea Samaria and the Golan – the archaeological survey of 1968, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Judea Samaria and the Golan – the archaeological survey of 1968.
Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Sadads}}

- Hi, thanks for your messege, as i am blocked at the moment i have no way of improving the article and connot comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Judea Samaria and the Golan – the archaeological survey of 1968. So if it is deleted, i hope that one day in the future i will be able to write it again in a manner that meets Wikipedia;'s standards. Have a nice day Owenglyndur (talk) 06:31, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
The article The Jewish child Forest has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
The sources in the article do not demonstrate notability. The 1980 newspaper article gives the forest a passing mention and is mostly about stamps. The first source at least gives a couple of sentences, but I think is still trivial.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
