The article Yobidashi you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Yobidashi for comments about the article, and Talk:Yobidashi/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. DYK for Yobidashi
[edit]On 2 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Yobidashi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that yobidashi often receive their trousers from sumo wrestlers who have been promoted to the rank of yokozuna or ōzeki? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Yobidashi. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Yobidashi), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

A request for assistance in sumo information compilation
[edit]Would you be willing to help me compile a list of active rikishi who are outside of the sanyaku divisions but have English Wikipedia articles (inculuding drafts)? - ArguaBILL (talk) 23:08, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Argua, thanks for the edits after the basho, they really helped. I'd also like to take this opportunity to welcome you to WP:SUMO :) Concerning your request, I don't quite understand it. Where do you want to put this list? For what purpose? - OtharLuin (talk) 08:44, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Even if it's not on any generally public template like the two for active sekitori rikishi, it'd make updating the records for them much easier. In fact, there were two or so active rikishi with Japanese Wikipedia articles whose records hadn't yet been updated to reflect the results of this most recent tournament. ArguaBILL (talk) 09:25, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- @ArguaBILL When I used to update the records I would use List of active sumo wrestlers, which should list every active rikishi who has an English Wikipedia article. It doesn't however include drafts, because they shouldn't be linked to in mainspace. I suppose we could create a similar list as a WP:SUMO subpage that includes drafts if you think that would be useful. Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:30, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that I made updates to the List of sumo elders article with the most recent election results, per the corresponding Japanese wiki article.
I'm not sure if there's a previous precedent on how the list is formatted? For the time being I took the promotions and put them on the bottom of each corresponding elder rank, sorted by their highest rank in competition. JRHorse (talk) 01:23, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! I just saw this, I had added the template to follow the various news (both those of Michinoku and Miyagino stables) but also the elections of directors of the association. I'm in the process of reworking the sumo association article myself, a big project I'd done before that had a lot of weak points (too detailed, not enough inline citations...) now that I'm looking at it with more experienced eyes... Just one point though, Kaitetsu used to follow the order posted on the JSA website, since it also determines the hierarchy of personnel :) Great work nonetheless - OtharLuin (talk) 06:28, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, if this is the link you mean, then perhaps I could try to sort it out later accordingly? JRHorse (talk) 11:58, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that's the one. There's nothing urgent: the information is there and it's just a presentation detail - OtharLuin (talk) 12:40, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks again, the article should be all set. JRHorse (talk) 21:00, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

[edit]On 25 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tokoyama, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Heya pics and chanko
[edit]Hi there. Maybe 10 years ago I took it upon myself to get a pic of every heya for wiki - it seemed very daunting until of course I did them all in a year and half or so - but now I am pretty lazy about updating when changes come along. Um, did I post a yoshiba chanko pic somewhere? Don't quite remember that. FourTildes (talk) 13:05, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi @OtharLuin and welcome back. Just like around this time last year, I wanted to give both you and @Pawnkingthree a heads up about my upcoming wiki-hiatus for most of next month. Again, like last year, this will include most of the September basho dates; i.e. I won't be able to get around to the summary for 2024 in sumo at the end of the tournament. Thank you both in advance! (And of course whoever else pitches in.) JRHorse (talk) 19:44, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
