Question from VitorSchorr (18:45, 31 October 2024)
[edit]Hi, how do i translate the references in a article? Is reasonable to leave in English or empty ? --VitorSchorr (talk) 18:45, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- VitorSchorr, are you translating into English or into another language? I don't know the guidelines on other language wikipedias, but on the English Wikipedia you definitely do need to have English-language references, and content without references may be challenged and removed. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!
All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.
- Generalissima (submissions) wins the featured article prize for 3 FAs in round 4, and 7 FAs overall.
- Hey man im josh (submissions) wins the featured list prize for 23 FLs overall.
- MaranoFan (submissions) wins the featured topic prize for 9 articles in featured topics in round 1.
- Hey man im josh (submissions) wins the featured content reviewer prize for 110 FA/FL reviews overall.
- BeanieFan11 (submissions) wins the good article prize for 58 GAs in round 5, and 70 GAs overall.

- Muboshgu (submissions) wins the ITN prize, for 15 In the news articles in round 1, and 36 overall.
Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

Question from Raazi Khan Bugti (20:00, 1 November 2024)
[edit]I want to upload my biography --Raazi Khan Bugti (talk) 20:00, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Raazi Khan Bugti, uploading your own biography is typically not allowed on Wikipedia. I recommend you take a look at these guidelines on what Wikipedia is not. If you have further questions about editing the encyclopedia, please feel free to let me know. Fritzmann (message me) 20:42, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from Shivangi122 on Non-governmental organisations in India (14:31, 3 November 2024)
[edit]how to edit template table? --Shivangi122 (talk) 14:31, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Shivangi122, sorry for missing your earlier questions and thank you for your contributions so far. Because the references are "inline" the reference box cannot be edited. Instead, you need to go the part of the article that needs the reference and add it there. For an introduction on how to add a reference, see Help:Referencing for beginners, which will walk you through the process. If you have further questions, feel free to ask them here! Question from MohamoedKhaledZ010 (06:56, 4 November 2024)
[edit]Hi Fritzmann2002,
The article has now been placed in drafts after the discussion around it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Nabeel_Qadeer
What should be my next steps in terms of re-publishing it as an article. What aspects do I need to consider and take care of before doing that? --MohamoedKhaledZ010 (talk) 06:56, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- MohamoedKhaledZ010, I think the draft is already looking better. Some things to consider:
- I recommend finding sources for every claim in the article, or removing those claims
- Sources by companies, press releases, or other promotional material is generally discouraged. They should be used sparingly in the article and replaced by more reliable sources where possible.
- There are a lot of biased and promotional words in the article ("pioneering", "enhancing", "innovative", "democratize"). I recommend removing these and looking at other, already published articles on entrepreneurs (perhaps like Jamie Beaton, a Good Article) for what words and tone to use
- Once you finish polishing the article and ensuring it follows our guidelines for biographies of living people and related policies, add "{{subst:submit}}" at the top of the page. This will send it to Articles for Creation, where it will eventually be reviewed and re-published. Fritzmann (message me) 19:34, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Fritzmann2002 - this has been of much help. Really appreciate your guidance. MohamoedKhaledZ010 (talk) 14:55, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Penstemon gentianoides
[edit]The article Penstemon gentianoides you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Penstemon gentianoides and Talk:Penstemon gentianoides/GA1 for issues which need to be addressed. Hey mentor, hope you could help me out
[edit]Hey there, I hope you're doing well. I had both my Radio Yugoslavia page removed and the Yugoslav Communist Pirate Party, despite me just adding and filling up sources - both of these are legitimate non-governmental organisations which I've been personally part of since 2010, however not only me, hundreds of people are members and contributors come (on Radio Yugoslavia) from the US, Germany, Russia, all the world basically. I'm not sure why somebody removed them both while I was doing some editing, maybe I should've finished the pages completely in Sandbox mode and after that publish them, but could you please check if we can get them back?
For America maybe 700-800 members for an pirate non-profit leftist organisation isn't too much, but for the Yugoslav region that's a lot and having our presence on Wikipedia will only help it grow for other fellow think-alikers, if that's a word.
Please let me know what you think is the best way to get those pages running. I have tons of references from dozen of sites that I was ready to add. Maybe it was the constantly adding/changing to the pages that put the fellow @Fram to revert the pages and warn me for vandalising? I mean? Radio Yugoslavia is the page that I was making, this redirect doesn't have anything to do with Radio Yugoslavia, etc, etc. I have tons of PDFs ranging from CIA themselves, to the Yugoslav government authorities, etc.
Cheers, all the best. P.S. @Fram I'm sorry I spammed with updates constantly, but on that note - that was completely my bad for getting out of the sandboxes, as I haven't edited on Wikipedia since 10s of years ago, for that I ask for forgiveness. But these pages should be online and not redirect to some others that haven't gotten a clue with what its being done, also, I promise that it won't happen again. Maybe finishing them up to a shiny level of viewing with references in the sandboxes, and after that trying again would be good enough?
Let me know what you fellas think. Thx. NemorosusMens (talk) 16:05, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- NemorosusMens, I think both Fram and asilvering gave pretty good explanations on Fram's talk page as to why those specific topics are probably not notable enough to warrant articles. I do highly encourage you to check out the wikiprojects that asilvering mentioned and contribute to existing articles about the Balkans region; there are a lot of content gaps there that would benefit greatly from someone with your enthusiasm and background. As a mentor I am happy to help with any further specific editing questions that you may have, so feel free to ask me when they come up! Fritzmann (message me) 19:22, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
Hey, I am a bit new here, but I read quite a few statements which claim many huge things but there are no sources given, is it quite common? And how can I check if it is correct or just randomly added? --Ace000000 (talk) 11:53, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ace000000, all statements made on wikipedia should be verifiable and referenced. If they are not, feel free to begin a discussion on the talk page of the article where they are mentioned. If no one objects, you can remove the uncited material. In general, if you don't see a blue citation note like [1], it is best to treat that with a degree of skepticism. Fritzmann (message me) 12:11, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- I see, thank you. While I already have begun a discussion on the talk page, I can't edit the article yet because it is semi-protected. Also, are there any other things I should know before I start editing the articles? I mainly get the basics but the fact that anyone can just create an account and edit many articles however they want is a bit... weird to me. Ace000000 (talk) 12:34, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well, our tagline is "the encyclopedia anyone can edit". There are quite a lot of guidelines to be aware of, but as long as you stick to the guideline of editing in good faith and trying to improve the encyclopedia, you should be good. I am happy to help with more specific issues as you get further into the process. Fritzmann (message me) 12:58, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

Onion Pie Murder
[edit]Thank you again for your help as my mentor. Previously I mentioned my interest in the article Onion Pie Murder. I was going to make some edits to the article with some rewording. In the end I decided not to make the edits. Instead I wanted to start a talk page on the article (none appears to exist at present). My reason was that I found quite a bit in the article that I thought could be improved and I did not want to start editing a text that I think needs a more general revision.
I have carefully prepared my comments for the talk page but I am entirely new at this. My text appears in the window as a Wiki article would appear as I felt this would be the best way of presenting what I had to say. I want to be correct in the way I present my comments, and I'm wondering if there's a way I can send you what I've prepared for you to check as regards its presentation and suitability in a talk page.
Many thanks for your help in guiding me through things as I learn these basics. Equestor (talk) 07:53, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Equestor, you can preview that by putting it into your user sandbox (there's a link at the top of the page by your username. Once you do that let me know and I will be able to look at it as well and provide input. Fritzmann (message me) 18:43, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your help with this. I think I've done what's required for my sandbox:
- User:Equestor/sandbox Equestor (talk) 19:08, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Equestor, looks very comprehensive. I think it is ready to be put on the talk page, just make sure you sign it at the end, and maybe have a short intro/TLDR (too long, didn't read) at the start. Fritzmann (message me) 20:33, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your help. I will add the intro you suggest and hope to complete everything tomorrow. I live near where this murder took place and I've taken a great interest in the people involved. 2A02:8012:D47D:0:4D22:F892:D610:7192 (talk) 20:44, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Fritzmann2002.. I am new and just finding my way. Is it okay if I focus on citations needed edits and subjects local to where I live? --SunshineSportsNetwork (talk) 22:36, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Hey I'm editing Morgantown high school volleyball state championship in 2023. But i did edit it but it's not showing Volleyball on there it's just saying 2023. --Wvutrey (talk) 20:41, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Wvutrey, I'm not seeing what the error is. When I look at the table, it has 2023 listed in the proper box next to Volleyball. Fritzmann (message me) 00:02, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Navboxes
[edit]Regarding your recent reverts at {{Ship classes of the Spanish Navy}} and {{Vorpostenboote Navbox}}, please note the following:
Red links
[edit]We should not include redlinks in navboxes like per WP:EXISTING and WP:WTAF. A navigation template is a grouping of links used in multiple related articles to facilitate navigation between those articles. Red links do not perform this function, especially when there are more red links than blue links per {{Vorpostenboote Navbox}}
Flags
[edit]Please see MOS:ICON and WP:NAVDECOR regarding the use of flags which states Specifically, there should be no national or regional flags or coats of arms
.
Overlinking
[edit]Please do not link to general topics (such as training ships) in navboxes per WP:OVERLINK and WP:BIDIRECTIONAL. Topics linked in navboxes should be subject specific.
Thanks! --woodensuperman 12:29, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Peppyraindrop (14:24, 14 November 2024)
[edit]Hello! I just submitted an article for review but I want to make sure I have enough sources. Is there any set number I should be sure to include? --Peppyraindrop (talk) 14:24, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Peppyraindrop, I don't see any article that has been submitted under your user contributions. Did you work on it on another account? Fritzmann (message me) 19:56, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- I edited it from this account. It's called Uncloseted Media. That's weird it's not showing up! Peppyraindrop (talk) 13:17, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- Peppyraindrop, from a first look at the article, it appears that the issue isn't with the number of sources, but with their reliability. For a Wikipedia article's subject to be considered notable enough to be published, they need to be represented in reliable sources. LinkedIn, for instance, is not reliable because it is self-published. That means that it should not be used, or should be used in very limited circumstances. press releases also fall into that category, as do most social media posts.
- I also just want to make sure, are you a representative of this company, or associated with them in any way? Fritzmann (message me) 18:31, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ahh. That makes sense. So it has to be things that are not self reported. So I should use a website source, like when the New York Times states their editor and chief on their website, instead of using the LinkedIn of the editor and chief?
- And I took the NYU Journalism class from the founder if that counts as an association. Is that something I have to report/note somewhere? I am not being paid or recruited to write the article. Peppyraindrop (talk) 12:52, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Peppyraindrop, I would just note that on your user page, but the big thing is that you are not being paid to edit the article. And yes, New York Times would be an excellent source for the article! Fritzmann (message me) 14:03, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

- FourTwoZero420, it looks like they just reverted an IP editor to one of your revisions; they aren't saying you introduced errors but that the anonymous editor did. All of your edits look just fine from a quick look. Fritzmann (message me) 18:29, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Reverted an ip editor to one of my revisions? Sorry to ask but i don't understand what that means? FourTwoZero420 (talk) 18:33, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- FourTwoZero420, no worries, I am happy to break it down a bit more. Here's a step-through of what happened:
- you made some good changes to the article
- someone who is not logged-in (doesn't have an account, called an "IP editor") made a bad edit that added factual errors
- another editor saw that the IP editor made a bad edit and undid it ("reverted"), taking the article back to the last edit you made
- the message on the history tab shows that the IP editor was reverted and the article is now how you left it
- If you have any more questions please let me know! Fritzmann (message me) 18:40, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

I used to edit on Fandom (Wikipedia but for entertainment stuff) under the name Hawkfighter222 so I have a bit of experience. I also editing Wikipedia as an IP editor. I'd still be editing Fandom if it wasn't for a rather complicated account problem I brought myself into (long story). Anyways, I'll probably be asking you some questions about editing soon. could you please help me on that issue

- Dear Zeryen, the article creation process is somewhat different in the English wikipedia, as are the requirements. I recommend looking at Help:My first article for an overview on how to get your first article published. It looks like you've submitted a draft to Articles for Creation; that is the best path forward, so make sure you take their feedback into account. If you would like me to review a draft before submission, I am happy to do so. Fritzmann (message me) 17:09, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Just curious why I can't edit a typo on Administrative divisions of France. I noticed that while doing research for a project that inter-communal had no - between inter and communal. So I filed a report and a bot responded. Why do I do?
-Vestrix Vestrix (talk) 19:51, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Vestrix, I have reverted that edit that you just made because it appears to have added: "inter-communalinter-communalinter-communalinter-communalinter-communalinter-communalinter-communalinter-communalinter-communalinter-communal" before a section heading. That is not a productive edit, which is likely why your previous revisions were also reverted. Fritzmann (message me) 15:56, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry! Didn't realize I did that! Vestrix (talk) 15:59, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Vestriz, no worries, just be aware that it is more often than not another editor who is looking at edits to make sure they are constructive. Leaving a polite message at that article's talk page and leaving them a ping is the best way to resolve any kind of dispute. Fritzmann (message me) 17:45, 24 November 2024 (UTC)

- Vestrix, I did some minor cleanup. I recommend looking at Help:My first article which has a lot of information on how to create an article. It is a big step to make because of all of the requirements of a new article on Wikipedia. It definitely needs more references, could use an infobox, and there should be some prose text as well. - Should I look to you or other articles of Inter-communalities for inspiration on prose text or should I come up with my own. Vestrix (talk) 03:52, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Vestrix, I can definitely help with some formatting stuff and if you have specific questions, but I'm certainly not an expert on the topic. WP:WikiProject France is a good resource to use, you can leave questions on that talk page too. Looking at other articles on intercommunalities is a great idea; there will probably be some good inspiration there. Fritzmann (message me) 00:36, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
