Nyhetsbrev nr. 22 fra Wikimedia Norge
Hello, here are the latest news from Wikimedia Norge!
- Arctic Knot – a big success
- The final thing we did before the summer holidays was to hold the Arctic Knot Conference. We spent most of 2021 preparing the conference, and the conference lasted for two days with a lot of participation. Most of the videos from the conference are available in this playlist on YouTube.
- 13–17 August
- Wikimania
- Wikimania starts tomorrow, and the deadline for registering is midnight UTC tonight. Wikimania lasts for 5 days, and the program is adapted to multiple timezones, so it will take place at various parts of the day. There are plenty of interesting submissions!
- Wikimedia Norge is participating with a workshop. The workshop's goal is to further develop the idea of a Wikimedia hub for underrepresented language communities. Everyone is welcome to participate!
- Next wiki meet-up
- 25 August
- The first meet-up of the fall will be about Abstract Wikipedia. We will watch Denny Vrandečić's presentation from Arctic Knot together, and discuss afterwards. The meet-up will take place on Google Meet, and start at 17.00 CEST. Simply explained, Abstract Wikipedia is about writing articles as functions in order to make them language-independent.
- International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples
- 9 August marks the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, and we wrote a blog post based on some of the presentations from the Arctic Knot Conference.
- Wikipedia 20 years
- Due to Wikipedia's 20 year anniversary, we have received video greetings from government ministers and the President of the Sámi Parliament. You can watch the videos here. The greetings are for everyone who has contributed to Wikipedia during its 20 years of existence – thank you very much for your efforts!
- Wikipedia in Norwegian turns 20 in November. This will be celebrated at the November meet-up; further information will come later.
Have you already paid your membership fees for 2021? If not, you can always do so by re-registering on this page.

Wikipedia translation of the week: 2021-33
The winner this Translation of the week is
Please be bold and help translate this article! Zhurong (Chinese: 祝融; pinyin: Zhùróng) is China's first Mars rover, which formed part of the Chinese Tianwen 1 mission to Mars. It landed on May 14, 2021, to make China the second country to successfully soft land on Mars and establish communications from the Martian surface, after the United States. Zhurong was successfully deployed on 22 May 2021, 02:40 UTC (Please update the interwiki links on Wikidata of your language version of the article after each week's translation is finished so that all languages are linked to each other.) Recent changes
- You can add language links in the sidebar in the new Vector skin again. You do this by connecting the page to a Wikidata item. The new Vector skin has moved the language links but the new language selector cannot add language links yet. [1]
Problems
- There was a problem on wikis which use the Translate extension. Translations were not updated or were replaced with the English text. The problems have been fixed. [2][3][4]
Changes later this week
- A revision tag will soon be added to edits that add links to disambiguation pages. This is because these links are usually added by accident. The tag will allow editors to easily find the broken links and fix them. If your wiki does not like this feature, it can be hidden. [5]
- Would you like to help improve the information about tools? Would you like to attend or help organize a small virtual meetup for your community to discuss the list of tools? Please get in touch on the Toolhub Quality Signal Sessions talk page. We are also looking for feedback from tool maintainers on some specific questions.
- In the past, edits to any page in your user talk space ignored your mute list, e.g. sub-pages. Starting this week, this is only true for edits to your talk page. [6]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 17 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 18 August. It will be on all wikis from 19 August (calendar).

I've partial-blocked this range from editing the article, and partial-blocked this IP as well. Let me know if the partial-blocks need to be extended to any other articles. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:18, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Ohnoitsjamie:, thanks. I don't think that more measures should be taken against the range. A couple of years ago I was also a Globally Locked Sockmaster on that same FPT Hanoi range and it's ridiculously easy to switch IP addresses, you just turn your modem on and off and within 30 (thirty) seconds you're on a new IP, if you do this enough times you will be on another range. While I managed to get both globally unlocked and locally unblocked this user doesn't respect the process and has been actively socking on FPT Hanoi for almost a decade so range blocks won't stop them and as almost everyone in Hanoi uses that provider I would advise against blocking IP's on the range as it would likely cause more collateral damage than solve any issues. Protecting the page won't be wise too as good IP users also contribute. So for now it might be just wise to not do to much actions as Unserefahne (Musée Annam) simply jumps from IP to IP and from range to range. --Donald Trung (talk) 19:27, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- I understand that it's a large range, but at the moment it's only partially-blocked from editing a few pages that the same user has targeted over the last few months. Uninvolved IPs can still propose changes on the talk pages. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:48, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Ohnoitsjamie:, that's good, it's just that they're likely to jump range in a few days. Usually they just like insulting people so most of their edits are reverted by random patrollers. I kind of forgot that partial blocks were a thing but thanks for keeping the blocking to a minimum. --Donald Trung (talk) 19:57, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, partial blocks are a great tool; I use them frequently now. We have a lot of great regular contributors on IPs, so I do my best to avoid collateral from such ranges. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:21, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
