Sky Temple

[edit]

Sky temple is one of the maps that you can play on in Blizzard Entertainments Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) Heroes of the Storm. The map was announced at Blizzcon 2014 /November 7-8 2014) and was realist on January 13.

Set/landscape

[edit]

The set of the map is inspired by ancient Egypt architecture and mythology. The map itself is a  floating island high up in the sky’s above the waste desserts of Luxoria. The map has three lanes where minions spawn and in total five Mercenary camps, two Bruiser camps, two Siege Giant camps and one boss camp. The two Bruiser camps are located between the top and middle lane, the two siege giant camps are between the bottom and middle lane and the boss camp is in between the siege camps. Both the mercenary’s and minions are inspired by ancient Egypt.

The most important feature of the map is the three temples that are located above the top and middle lanes and below the bottom lane. These temples are circles on the grounds that have five statues around them featuring large human’s whit jackal heads like the ancient Egyptian god Anubis. Last but by no means least is a watchtower located just below the top lane.

Mechanics

[edit]

The map have the normal mechanic that all MOBAS have in common that there is three lanes where week minions will spawn at the same time for both teams at the CORE of the teams and then they will march towards the other teams minions and attack each other.

The most important feature of the map is the three temples that are the main focus of the map. They do huge amount of damage that will rip throw all of your structures if you let your enemies take and control them. This results in the temples becoming the biggest focus point of most team fights.

The damage of the temple is not consistent and it will increase by 60damage the first three time and then 80damage for every time they activate. The starting damage is 400/shot and it is a total of 45 shots so that is a total of 18000damage for each temple, 460/shot for the second so 20700damage. After temple number four the damage that the does is increased whit 80 instead of 60.

The temples will activate for the first time one minute and 30 seconds in and the next time they activate is exactly two minutes after the last shot is fired. You will get a warning that the temples will activate 15 seconds before they activate the first three times and after that you will get a warning 30 seconds before it activates.

Which of the three temples that activates is the same for the first two times. The first time the temples activate it is the top and middle temple that activate and the second time it is the bottom one. The third time the temples activate it will always be two that activates but it is not always the same two that will activate. After the first three times the temple will not have a pattern on which temple that activates or a specific number of temples that activates it can be either one or two. However the 7th time they activate all three will be activated at the same time and from there on out as far as we know anyway all three will activate. I have personally never gone beyond the 8th activation and I don’t know of anyone who has, so what happens after the 8th activation is unknown but one can assume that it will continue be all three that activates.

The watchtower will provide a good view of the top lane and the middle temple and is a position that often will be fought over in the early game.

How to play on the map

[edit]

This part of the page will be mostly my experience and some form other players as well.

To start of the game there are three different setups to go whit in the start but they all have one thing I common that there is only one person on the bot lane. You can split the other four in three ways: three on the top lane, three on the middle lane or two on both top and middle lane. These three splits have different pros and cons, so let’s go over them.

Two-Two-One split: the good thing whit this one is that it gives you lots of freedom in which of the first temple to capture the first time they activate. If you see that you enemies are investing a lot in taking the top temple you can just take the middle on whit ease. The only downside whit this split is that you are in a slight disadvantage if you and your opponents pic the same temple to take but they have a split whit three players in one lane, but you shod not be a problem sins you will see that there is three players in one of the top or middle lane.

Three-One-one split: this one gives you a good advantage to take the top temple and it forces your opponents on the top lane to play more defensively and you will have an easy time to activate the top temple. The down side is that it is weary easy to read which temple you are planning to take and react accordingly.

One-Three-One split: same pros and cons whit the Three-One-One split when it comes to taking temples but it give you more possibility to harass the top and bot lane.

Personally I prefer the Two-Two-One split but the other two are definitely viable and have won me games before. The only thing you need to be careful whit is that you on the single lane you need to put a hero whit good sustain and/or healing so they don’t get bullied out of the lane and lose experience.

The second temple activation is really important and can win or lose you the game. It is only one temple that activates it is rare that both teams gets the same amount of shoots form it and the experiences that this temple can contribute to your team is huge. I my opinion this is the most important temple in the game.

The reason that it is the most important in that game is that one, sins it is only one temple that activates both teams will try to take it whit the entire team in most cases and this will result in a team fight that if your team win you will get lots of experience plus the temple which grants you more experience so this temple can catapult you in to an extremely good position in the game that could win you the game.

How to prepare to take the temple: it will activate two minutes after the last shoot is fired from the first pair of temples so at around four to five minutes is the time that it will activate. If you have heroes that require some time to get in the perfect battle positions lite Sargent Hammer or Gazlowe it is good to be there around when the 15 second timer is started. So if you have one of these two heroes or both on your time I would put them on the bot lane directly after the first temple is done. For the heroes on the top lane the normal time to send them down is around 20-30 seconds before they activate depending on the situation in the perfect world your entire team is in position and ready to fight five seconds before the temple activate.

When it comes to the fight for the temple it is normally the team who gets in position the first who win it sins the team who is attacking the temple are doing it in a choke point that you can hit whit splash damage making it hard to retake it. If you don’t have control of the temple in the beginning I would not argue against leaving it completely and push the lanes in the traditional way and/or take mercenaries both your and of you feel that you can your opponent’s.

One the other temples the golden rule is that you put one more on the temple than the number of heroes your enemies are trying to take it from you and gather experience whit the rest. If you see that your opponents are greedy and only have one or two on the temple and are taking experience whit the other three to four you can attack the temple whit the ones that you are not defending your one temple whit and try to take both but you shod only try this if you are 100% certain that you will not lose the temple that you are holding. But the more safe way is to gather experience whit those that you are not defending the temple whit.

Heroes that is good on the map:

[edit]

When you are choosing what hero you are going to play whit on this map you need to think about a few different things:

1. Self sufficiency

2. 1v1 potential

3. Team fight potential

4. Area of effect damage/healing (AOE)

The map is cutie big but the temples are small so AOE both healing and damage is weary good on this map. Self-sufficiency and 1v1 potential is almost the same thing, if you are good at Self-sufficiency you are naturally good at 1v1, heroes that fit in to this category is: Sonya, Arthas and Illidan. They have an easy time to go in to a 1v1 and heal up or life-steal and are also good in team fight so these heroes are weary good on this map.

It is hard to have all of these talents for every single hero on your team, most healers don’t fare well in a 1v1 but some that do are the following: Rehgar and Brightwing and you also need to think on healing AOE and both of them have healing AOE so these two are excellent heroes on this map.

I am not saying that these five are the perfect line up for this map but these heroes are suitable for the map.

Mercenaries:

[edit]

When to take mercenaries (Mercs)? Well if you ask me in my opinion you shod always take them if you have the chance to take them whit out risk. For example: after the first temples deactivate you  can send one-two heroes and take the bruiser camp on your side and then maybe a siege camp. But I general taking camps after the temples is good but you can be a bit more risky and take them just before the temple activate and force your opponents to choose between defending against the Mercs and come late to the temple or let the Mercs push that lane and take damage on their buildings.

The boss  is a nasty thing to take down and in my opinion you shod only try to take it if you are at minimum one hero up so if they try to stop you will be in a 5v4+boss. The boss will create a big distraction for the other team and if you take it right before the temple it will be a similar situation that they need to choose between defending against it or take the temple. If you are ahead by al lot like 2 levels (say they are 9 and you are 11) you can try to force an engage at the boss where you will have your heroic abilities and they will not, but you can still lose the fight if you are not care full so this is something that can bring your opponents back in to the game but if you succeeds you will get a huge boost and a good starting point for the next temples.

Finally a few tips: play safe, when ahead get more ahead and click on the circle beneath the boss!
