Vandalism on certain Disney pages, requesting immediate protection.

Hello mate, I've been noticing that some disney pages like A Whole New World and also Aladdin (2019 film) were recently vandalized using inappropriate pictures. Can it be protected properly? Thank you LizandJr8 (talk) 03:09, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi LizandJr8! Thanks for leaving me a message here and for reporting the disruption to these articles. I've checked both edit histories; A Whole New World was protected by another administrator just a bit ago, and I've added semi-protection to Aladdin (2019 film). This should put a stop to the vandalism. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you, and I'll be happy to help. Happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:16, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Premature ANI closure

I think the section concerning MS was certainly not played out, and a 72 hour block is very, very unlikely to have any meaningful effect on a problem extending many years. I think You should reconsider your closure. Qwirkle (talk) 12:45, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Qwirkle! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your thoughts and concerns regarding the closure of that ANI discussion. Like I said in my closing statement, I wasn't sure if any discussions in that regard were going to be in motion, and that any user is welcome to undo my closure if it was pre-mature. I'll go ahead and remove it, since you're expressing concerns and it seems like you believe that this discussion should take place there. Stand by; it'll be re-opened momentarily. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:47, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Qwirkle - Instead of undoing the closure, I went a head and left a note underneath the discussion regarding your message here. I also reiterated that anyone is welcome to remove the closure I applied if I did so too soon. Please don't hesitate to respond with any further questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to discuss them with you further and help as best as I again. Thank you for taking the time to leave me a message here and express your thoughts and concerns with me. I appreciate your feedback very much, and I hope you have a great day. Happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:53, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Then I’ll put on my “anyone” hat, and reopen it. What’s the best way to handle that? Transform your closure into a comment? Qwirkle (talk) 12:57, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Qwirkle - Nah, just remove the closure. No need to save my closing statement in a comment or anything fancy; it's not dire or important that it be kept... lol. You just need to remove the {{atop}} and {{abot}} templates from the top and bottom of the section, and you'll be all set. If you get stuck anywhere or need help, let me know and I'll be happy to do so. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:59, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Eli Erlick

Thanks for protecting the page, but per my AIV report, do you not think edits like this should be an immediately blockable offense? Funcrunch (talk) 14:35, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Funcrunch! Yup, that's an edit I'd certainly block a user over. Please accept my apologies for leaving a "warned user" response instead of actually blocking the user. I just took a look at the timelines and saw that only one warning was left, and left it at that. I should have taken a look at the edits as well. Else, I would've caught this and you wouldn't have had to ask me what the heck is going on in my head... lol. The issue is all taken care of now; thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. :-) Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you and I'll be happy to help. Happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:39, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the block and the redaction. As a trans person myself, I certainly do not enjoy seeing edits like that left with just a mild warning... Funcrunch (talk) 14:41, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Funcrunch - That was my fault for not looking at the edits themselves, and I'm so sorry that I inadvertently treated the situation with such little action compared to what should have happened in the first place. I've redacted and even suppressed some revisions on the article, and I've extended the protection duration to be two months instead of two days. This should hopefully put a stop to any further vandalism or disruption there. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:44, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Many thanks

Hi Oshwah, Hope all is well mate,
Just wanted to say many thanks for this, I think on a technicality I should've gone to 3RRNO (which is where I'll next go if it resumes) but yeah just wanted to say many thanks for dealing with that,
Happy editing :), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:34, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

No problem; always happy to lend a hand. ;-) If any shenanigans come up in the future and my assistance is needed, please don't hesitate to message me and let me know, and I'll be more than happy to help. My user talk page is always open to you, and you're welcome to message me or post here any time you need or want to. I hope you have a great rest of you day, and I wish you happy editing. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:38, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah, Yeah yeah all is well over this side of the pond thanks and I hope all is good and well over that side of the pond :),

Thanks so much and I hope you have a fabulous day too lol,
Take care mate, –Davey2010Talk 18:46, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Davey2010 - Things are going okay for me. I had to take some time away from Wikipedia to take care of some life events and obligations that were going on. But, as you see, I'm back and active again. :-) Until our paths cross again, my friend... take care. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:51, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

random query

Is there an "Ip Script" to hide "pop-up" banners when you are not logged in? --Thegooduser Life Begins With a Smile :) 🍁 20:59, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Thegooduser - When you're not logged in? No, anonymous users run off of a separate default .js and .css files and they can't customize those. You'd have to look at a browser add-on to do that. One thing to know is that browser add-ons (unless they come with options to customize when they're enabled or not) will typically run whether you're logged in or not or they'll run all the time - so do be careful. Add-ons can also cause other conflicts and issues - especially if you're also running custom Wikipedia scripts and gadgets on top of that. My advice is to avoid using browser add-ons that are designed to affect Wikipedia and how it displays in your browser. They're typically designed for people that read Wikipedia, not so much people who are editors. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:21, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

NYC station article naming

Can you help me set up an rfc for this?

Essentially, the editors in favor of WP:USSTATION want to implement it in NYC.

Said policy has been enforced everywhere in the United States except in the NYC subway station articles.

The editors opposing the page move(s) constantly cite WP:IGNORE.

This back and forth has been going on constantly for at least 2 years now (with some arguments going back a decade).

An rfc was suggested by multiple editors as early as 2016, but nothing has happened yet.

Note that trash talk happens quite often as well. Cards84664 (talk) 17:22, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Cards84664, as someone on the opposite side of this specific requested move. I agree with the need for resolution and that the appropriate venue would be an RFC. I would be willing to collaborate in order to set up a neutral RFC with the hope of achieving some consensus. StudiesWorld (talk) 18:20, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
@StudiesWorld: How would you like to set this up, in a sandbox? Cards84664 (talk) 23:37, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
Cards84664, that would be my thought. Do you want to set it up or should I? StudiesWorld (talk) 23:58, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
@StudiesWorld: I think you should, I'm not familiar with the overall process. Cards84664 (talk) 23:59, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
I have started a draft in userspace to prepare it and have continued the discussion (pinging both of you there) with some questions? StudiesWorld (talk) 01:13, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
StudiesWorld - No problem. I've responded with some answers that should help you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:03, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi Cards84664 and StudiesWorld! I think the suggestion to set up a neutral RFC regarding the application of this policy is a great idea. It looks like you two are already in the process of creating one, so I'll leave you to it. If either one of you has any questions regarding an RFC and the process involved, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Cheers and good luck! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:24, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Ramrancher8

Hello Oshwah, I am bringing this to you, as you have blocked this user before. They have continued to make unsourced edits after their previous block. I reported to AIV the other day for the continued unsourced edits, however it must have been declined as not obvious vandalism. Then today there was this edit also added unsourced (possibly speculative) content about a future event. StaticVapor message me! 20:04, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi STATicVapor! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding the ongoing problems with this user's edits. I took a look at the diff you provided me above, and I noticed that the article involved is one that he/she created. Hence, I held off on taking immediate action. Have you created an ANI discussion regarding this user? If your reports regarding this user are being declined at AIV for not being "blatant vandalism" (which can happen), the thing to do next is to create a discussion at ANI so that it can be discussed and handled there. Please let me know when you've done this, and I'll be happy to comment on the discussion and watch for input there. Thanks! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:31, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Forsure, usually my steps are AIV -> contact previous blocking admin (if there is one) -> ANI. I just hate bringing wrestling there unless it is a major issue, since sometimes it invites a lot of backhanded comments regarding the subject matter lol. I just want to see this user citing sources for their edits like everyone should, the previous block, multiple messages and even your well thought out personalized message has gotten us nowhere so far. StaticVapor message me! 06:21, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
STATicVapor - I completely understand your thoughts and reasons for being hesitant to start a discussion at ANI about this. ANI (in general) can become a heated mix and explosion of "blame game" arguments, battleground conduct and grudges that involved users just won't let die, incivility and personal attacks, and off-topic finger-pointing. Unfortunately, starting an ANI discussion is the next logical step from here given the fact that notices, warnings, and custom messages have gone ignored, and the problem only continues to occur. Given the specific issue involved with this user, an ANI needs to be filed so that it can be discussed and a solution found with as many users in the community as possible. This assures that we make right decisions, perform the correct actions, and we do the right thing. You'll be fine... I promise. I'm right here should you need help or support with it, and if you update me here and tell me you started one, I'll be happy to comment on the discussion. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:29, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for being so kind, really appreciate your efforts on here. I think I'll try and give the user one more message, but if this still continues to annoy me I will probably tag you when the ANI happens. Happy editing! StaticVapor message me! 06:53, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
STATicVapor - I appreciate the time and effort you spend trying to help and assist other users before throwing them into an ANI discussion. Keep up the great work ethic that you give to this project; it makes a significant positive impact... more than you think it does! :-D Okay, sounds good to me! Feel free to ping me if you create an ANI discussion about this user and I'll be happy to comment and help. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:57, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

ANI redaction

Whoa! I think you redacted too much. El_C 11:44, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi El C! These are suppressions from a discussion started a few days ago. An email has been sent to the OS team to get input regarding the content that was redacted and whether or not it should be considered something that should be redacted and suppressed. If we determine that the information doesn't meet the criteria, or if its determined that suppression is not the solution in this situation, the visibility to the revisions will be restored. I know... it's a lot of revisions. Rest assured, it's being discussed... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:49, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
It's just that oversighting 500+ revisions seems like overkill; but okay. El_C 11:54, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
El C - Sigh... I know. I know it is... and I'm sorry to have to be the one to make the decision and take the actions I believe to be necessary. Unfortunately, I have to put the content that needs suppression first over convenience in these situations (pending a discussion with the OS team of course). That's the curse of being an oversighter sometimes... there are times where you have to redact content and suppress a bunch of revisions that can step on the toes of many editors, and you can't discuss the content or any details involving the suppression with other editors on top of it. :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:00, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Could this possibly be a record for the largest number of redactions in one hit?? --Blackmane (talk) 13:32, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Blackmane - HA! Sadly, it's not. Not by far... I've had to redact and suppress a lot more revisions than that in the past due to one event. Again, sorry for the inconvenience. Like I said, it's being discussed with the team... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:58, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Doesn't inconvenience me. The drama board could do with a magic wand clean out once in a while.... Blackmane (talk) 14:03, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Blackmane - Heh. Boy is that true sometimes... :-P ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:05, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Earlier the editor moved to Wikipedia:Alyssia Vibha Sharma but I moved back to Wikipedia:Vibha Sharma per WP:COMMONNAME but later found out that it wasn't moved to the main article at all and now, I can't move back to Vibha Sharma. Hi

Can I still edit pages? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Disneyandanduniversalfan (talkcontribs) 14:24, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Disneyandanduniversalfan! Yes, your current account status does not restrict you from editing pages that are not protected. If they're protected, you won't be able to edit them until you become confirmed. Then, you'll be able to edit semi-protected pages. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:41, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Global/attached accounts question

Perhaps you or one of the watchers know something about this (or where to inquire about it). How is it decided which accounts are attached to your global account? For example, you have 478 attached accounts. I have 33. Most of the accounts are to wikis in other languages and obviously the vast majority of editors whose 'home' wiki is en.wiki won't be editing the wikis in other languages. On the other hand, another long time user I happened to check has 150 attached, and various users who signed up for en-wiki some years ago have no accounts attached. Enigmamsg 19:32, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Enigmaman: according to meta:Help:Unified login, new accounts are attached when you first visit a wiki while logged in. clpo13(talk) 19:41, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi Enigmaman! I'll expand on what Clpo13 said above. If you create an account today on any project (and not back before globalization and unification of logins were a thing), you create both a local account on that project as well as a global account. From there, when you visit another project for the first time (say, for example: you created your new account on the English Wikipedia and you visit the Simple English Wikipedia for the first time), a local account is created on the project from the information stored in your global account, and the information is all synchronized up. So if you change the password on your English Wikipedia account, it updates the global account password, which syncs with all of the other local accounts. And the automatic creation goes on from there as you visit more and more WMF projects... :-) Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:45, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks Clpo and Oshwah. I don't recall having visited these other wikis but it shows the accounts were created/linked years ago so my visits weren't recent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Enigmaman (talkcontribs) 19:59, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Enigmaman - No problem. :-) That sounds about right; I'm sure that the 478 attached accounts you saw on my CentralAuth page were linked a long time ago for me as well... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:02, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Ah, most of them were attached on March 15, 2015 for me... which I think is the day that the SUL finalisation went into effect (basically the task that forcibly renamed all local accounts where another local account on a different project had the same username, then afterwards took all local accounts created before globalization was a thing and turned them into global accounts), but I could be wrong about that... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:06, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
I wasn't even aware of this list until recently. Most of my accounts are from various dates in 2008, with a handful created in the ensuing years. Enigmamsg 20:10, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Enigmaman - How SUL and account globalization works under the hood is a bit funky but works well. The transition that was made between before when SUL and globalization became a default thing and afterwards was by far even more funkier than that... and the tasks and modifications that had to be performed for old accounts so that they were transitioned over to SUL and globalization was even more funkier than that! LOL ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:15, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Why do people always delete my edits? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Disneyandanduniversalfan (talkcontribs) 20:32, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Disneyandanduniversalfan - Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any more edits or take on any major tasks around here. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be very helpful to you. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. If you need help after going through and completing the entire tutorial, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to help you from there. I really want you to go through the tutorial first, as it will answer nearly all of your questions. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:39, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

If I plug in the Pc, it sometimes dies, (and goes from 29% to 5% on sleep mode in 20 minutes on battery) The workstation will never sleep when plugged in only when the lid is closed, I tried locking it with the lid up, and sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't if the pc sleeps. I still think that there's a power issue that's causing things to stop working after you do something and the laptop enters a power saving state or standby mode. This will stop the WiFi or LAN device in the process in order to conserve power consumption. This can cause issue with many things, but I think that it applies in your situation. In Windows 10, go to your power options and make sure that the profile or plan is set to "High performance". Then click on "Change when the computer sleeps" or go to the setting to change your standby and sleep options. Set it to disabled on both AC and battery (for now so that we eliminate it completely from the equation). Give the computer a reboot, and let me know if this fixes your problem. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:11, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

It will not kill your battery if it's plugged in. If you have Windows Updates to install, you need to reboot and install them all. This could also be part of the cause of your problems. Having pending Windows Updates modifies some events and settings to prepare for the installation. Set those power settings that I listed, get those updates installed, and reboot! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:16, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Editing a Wikipedia page

I am new to editing a Wikipedia page. I have edited a Wikipedia page recently and it was reverted by you with a reason : 'not accepting, looks like spam' to me. I want to ask how can I upload a photo for extended information on a Wikipedia page ( I still don't understand the symbols stand for) NepNepNepK (talk) 11:33, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi NepNepNepK! Welcome to Wikipedia! I apologize if my thoughts were incorrect regarding the pending edit you were attempting to save to an article. Was the edit you're referring to that you made earlier and I reverted this one by chance? Was the article you were trying to edit Jennie Kim? Please let me know. Before you get into the area of uploading files and using them on Wikipedia, we really should have you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial first. It will provide you with many useful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be very important for to you to know and understand (including how to upload files and include them in articles and pages, which is what you're asking about). Most users who go through and complete the entire tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. I highly recommend that you go through and complete the entire tutorial. It will not only answer your question, but it will interactively show you what to do. :-) Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so. Again, please accept my apologies for misinterpreting your attempt to improve the article as an attempt to add spam. I hope that you have a great day and I wish you happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:47, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

The Barnstar of Diplomacy
On several occasions over the last couple of weeks I have noticed in the ANI that you have been intervening in disputes with an even hand, listening to what both sides have to say and suggesting suitable actions that try to keep everyone contented.Result:fewer people using ANI as a battlefield and happier Wikipedians all round!Keep it up Lemon martini (talk) 15:27, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi Lemon martini! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me this barnstar, and for the very kind words that you added to it. It means a lot to me to see that the things I do on Wikipedia make a positive impact on others. I try my best to be willing to help other users - even those that everyone has given up on, and I try my best to be civil, kind, positive, level-headed, neutral, respectful, and brotherly at all times and to everyone on Wikipedia - even those who are hated and shunned by everyone. What I try to do might not make much of an impact at all to Wikipedia and those who I interact with, but it at least makes me feel like a good editor and a good adminisrtator, since I'm doing what I truly believe is the right thing to do. That, above all else, is the best thing to strive for here on Wikipedia. Thanks again :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:39, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Huggle

When patrolling recent changes with Twinkle, it's easy to see a diff of the changes and the article with the changes made/the changes implemented in the article. On Huggle, it just shows the diff and not the article with the changes made. I understand that I can see article with the new changes made in the browser, but is it possible to see the article with the changes made within Huggle without going into the browser? Interstellarity T 🌟 18:51, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Interstellarity! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your question! Huggle obviously allows you to see the diff of the current edit in the queue that you're patrolling and evaluating, but as far as I know - there isn't a way to implement the ability to see both a diff and the latest version of the page at the same time within the interface. However, if you press the shortcut keys ALT + O while looking at a diff in Huggle, the window will open the current revision of the page that you're looking at. You can also press the O key in order to have Huggle open the diff in your external browser. Now, I have three monitors connected to my computer, and I use all of them while I'm patrolling recent changes using Huggle. Obviously, I'm not expecting you to have that kind of a setup. However, if you have two monitors connected to your computer, it will make things much easier. Have Huggle open on one monitor, and then have your primary internet browser open on the other. This way, when you use the keyboard shortcuts to open anything in your browser from Huggle, it's displayed on the other. This makes the overall workflow of using Huggle to review diffs and investigate problems a much smoother one. Please let me know if you have any more questions regarding Huggle and how to use it to the fullest extent, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. :-) I hope that I was able to at least provide you with a partial solution that will give you the view and workflow that you're looking for. I'll also do some digging for you and see if there's a way to do this that I'm not thinking of. You'd think that it would be easy, and you'd be able to press one or two keyboard shortcuts to switch between displaying the diff of the edit, and displaying the current revision of the page that the edit was made to...... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:55, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. I tried to find a way to do this in Huggle, but had no luck. I tried the keyboard shortcut Alt + O, but I found it not helpful because it doesn't tell me where the changes were made in the article and that the view looked dated. I will keep using the external browser in the future. I am open to trying new things. If you find a way to do it, please let me know. Interstellarity T 🌟 00:56, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Interstellarity - Essentially, what you're really looking for is a way to see both the diff and the affected page at the same time on Huggle with each diff you look at in the queue. Is this correct? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:49, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
That's correct. Interstellarity]] T 🌟 12:08, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Interstellarity - Okay, thanks for confirming that for me. I just wanted to make sure that I was reading your message correctly. Also, I apologize for the delay responding to your message here; I was busy with work and a few other things and I'm just now getting all caught up with my messages here. ;-) I don't think there's a view that you can enable that will do this. The closest I can give you as far as an answer goes is to have you take a look at the keyboard hotkeys for Huggle and see if one of those will work for you. The issue is that I did find a shortcut that will open the current page in that view (ALT+O), there isn't a shortcut key to go back to the diff view. You'd have to go back to the previous diff (which updates that window in Huggle), then go forward to return to the current diff (which will display the diff view again). It's not an optimal way to do this by any means, but it's at least something you can give a try. If I didn't recommend this in my previous response, I highly recommend that you visit Huggle's feedback page and request that they consider implementing a way to develop such a view (or at least provide a hotkey for users to go back to the current item's diff view). This will at least get the idea out there and to the people who can actually develop it. If I figure out an easier way to accomplish what you're asking for, I'll make sure to update you. If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:13, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
I've added a link to this discussion on the feedback page. See here. If there is a faster way to reach out to the Huggle team, please let me know or do it for me. Interstellarity T 🌟 00:55, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Hazard

Hey, thanks for the protection. You have any advice what i could have done different? The transer window is not open, so the transfer can't be completed. Or should i just have let it go and hope others chip in? Because the history does not look good... I used edit summaries and contacted some editors directly. Apologies if i did it wrong. Kante4 (talk) 20:55, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Kante4! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and concerns. I was just about to reach out to you on your user talk page about this, so you saved me the time by contacting me directly... lol ;-) Since this transfer is a true event that's supported by reliable sources, the edits and reverts being made to the article by everyone involved is over a content-related matter, and not something where repeated back-and-fourth reverts would be exempt from 3RR or what would be considered as edit warring (like vandalism, BLP violations, violations of copyright, etc). In the future, when something like this blows up on an article and becomes an all-out battle between many users to add the information, then have someone else remove it, then to have someone revert it back, and on and on and on.... (basically what's been happening on that article today, lol).... it's best to not let yourself get sucked into adding to the mess by making reverts like the others were doing and start edit warring yourself. It just "adds more poo to the pile" and puts you in a position where you could be blocked for being a participant in the edit warring mess. Just save yourself the effort, the time, and the trouble - and start a discussion on the article's talk page and ping the other users involved. If editors are blatantly edit warring, and it's currently happening and in progress, report those users by filing at report at WP:AN3 after you've finished opening a discussion. You did the right thing by adding a request to WP:RFPP and asking for protection to be applied to the article. That's how the issue was able to be resolved; an administrator (well... me... lol) protected the article and directed everyone involved to take the dispute to the article's talk page. Next time, keep yourself in the back row... even if you believe or "know" that your (or another user's) particular revision is the correct one. It just keeps you out of trouble, and if the edit warring is bad and blatant enough and being caused by many editors, it's not like your reverts are going to make a big difference anyways... someone else will just revert it... so it's not worth the trouble. ;-) Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Thanks again for coming to me directly and for being so willing to discuss what happened. It's editors like you who are willing to ask the tough questions, receive feedback, and use it to improve their edits - that will grow and become more experienced, and will make a great experienced editor or administrator someday. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:16, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer. Yeah, i knew at some point it was a bad idea to get "sucked in" as you said. Next time i take your advice, take a seat back and let others do that stuff. ;) But like you maybe know, it's not always easy to do that when you are doing the right thing (at least for me, but who am i to decide if i was correct). Just hope i'm not in trouble and apologize once again for my mistake(s). I opened a discussion on said talk page and pinged all involved editors to reach a consensus. Your answer(s) (not just here for me) are really impressive, helpful and show a lot of knowledge and just show a good admin. :) So thanks again for taking time for me and my question. If you have anything to add. feel free. ;) Kante4 (talk) 21:26, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
Kante4 - I appreciate your compliments and your very kind words. :-) Don't worry about the edit warring and the reverts you made. Mistakes happen to everyone regardless of their tenure and experience here; nobody is perfect. I mean, shit, there's a number of editors and admins here that will gladly vouch for me when I say that I've made WAY MORE than my fair share of mistakes on Wikipedia both as an editor and an administrator. They're inevitable, and they're not a big deal if they were made in good faith and so long as you learn from them. They're mistakes... they happen. :-) You obviously now have the understanding of what to do in the future, and you're obviously not going to go back and continue edit warring on that article, so there's no need for me to take any administrative action or do anything like block you or something... All I had to do was just answer your questions and explain what to do next time, and I consider the matter resolved. Easy peasy! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:40, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
Always good to hear (and that you're not a robot). And thanks for the rollback rights, something new for me even after so many years. ;) I'm trying now to commuicate more with other editors when they edit transfers too early and hope for a response but don't get into a back-and forth. Thanks for your assistance and i think i try this place out more often here if i have any questions. Kante4 (talk) 08:04, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Kante4 - Please do! My talk page is always open to you, and you're welcome to message me any time you need or want to. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:06, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
So, i see some editors were too early putting in transfers on my watchlist (Éder Militão). I'm trying to discuss the issue with them, but there are quite a few and known WP for a few years, rarely do editors look at the talk page and try to discuss (and tbh, there is even a hidden note in the edit window). I'm a bit hesitant with that, so i wait with the undo (or do so because the transfer can't be completed?). Feeling like a newbie. ;) Kante4 (talk) 08:14, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Kante4 - That's a good question. I'm honestly not an expert with this exact content and when it's appropriate to add it. I would think that once reliable sources show that the information is true, that it's okay to add it to the article. However, there's probably a consensus somewhere regarding when and where this information should be added. You could ask about this at WikiProject Sports. I'm quite certain that they would be able to answer your question. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:54, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer. The transfer market rules but every year it is a dilemma. I may try to reach with the Footy project a consensus what to do after the whole transfer saga is over. ;) Thanks for all and have a nice day. ;) Kante4 (talk) 08:56, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Kante4 - You bet; always happy to help. :-) If you have any more questions or if I can help you with anything else, please don't hesitate to leave me a message and let me know, and I'll be happy to help. Keep in touch! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:07, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

About my revert on Smarties: Meltdown

If you go back and check the diffs I reverted they were rather blatant and immature vandalism - in fact, this is apparently not the first time that the same user defaced the article. I assume the problem was that there was a misunderstanding since this is the first edit I made on this account (I have edited as an IP previously) - just bringing it to your attention. CTB TripleThree (talk) 21:05, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi CTB TripleThree! Thanks for leaving me a message here regarding this article and my revert to the edit you made. Oh dear... Please accept my sincere apologies for the mistake and for doing that to you. I don't know anything at all about the article subject (Smarties: Meltdown), and the edit you made here didn't give an obvious signal to me of whose edit was correct and whose wasn't. I thought that your edit may have been adding incorrect content given the context and situation, as well as bad assumptions on my part. It looks like the revert I made has been fixed by another administrator, so the changes you originally made are now applied and reflected on the current revision. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, and I hope you have a great day. Happy editing to you! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:20, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Recent ANI closure

Hey Oshwah, I'm currently involved in a deletion discussion involving Pr12402 where they are repeatedly refusing to get the point (or possibly just don't understand despite having had basic policy patiently explained to them multiple times), not cooperating with other editors, and arguably inappropriately canvassed me to the conversation. There's also a previous interaction that I had with them after PRODing an article they had created (here and here) that would establish that they are not new to disruptive behavior and failures to listen. In light of this additional information, do you think it's appropriate to reopen or resubmit the ANI case related to them that you recently closed? signed, Rosguill talk 06:43, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Rosguill! Yeah, let's go ahead and re-open that discussion at ANI so that this user's conduct can be re-examined given the new evidence and information that's come to light since the closure. My closure wasn't made too soon, was it? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:47, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
I'd wager you missed this discussion (and the related AfD), but nobody really pointed you to it. I'll let you do the honors of reopening the discussion at ANI. signed, Rosguill talk 06:57, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi CptViraj! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns. The sandbox page you linked to isn't anything we need to worry about. :-) Unless someone is using it to violate Wikipedia's policies or guidelines (such as advertise or promote, add copyrighted content, threaten or harass other editors, etc) they can generally be left alone. Otherwise, just tag them for speedy deletion under the relevant criterion so that an admin can sweep up the mess. ;-) Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message, and I hope you have a great weekend. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:02, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Do you think I was trying to damage the structure? FYI articles specific to what that one was will be popping up every 2 years (world chess championship is held biannualy) so there's a chance a similar edit war could be happening between me and someone else during that time (1 month) PS Can I be a page stalker? It's a fun job if I'm not a regular Wikipedia editor. I've seen messages on this page for which I think I could've page stalked :)211.26.200.179 (talk) 13:15, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Edit warring is disruptive behavior that is prohibited by Wikipedia policy. You're expected to refrain from edit warring, and discuss any disputes with the editors involved on the article's talk page per Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol. Failing to do this can result in being blocked. I always give editors the benefit of the doubt by default; hence, I don't believe that you were purposefully intending on being disruptive or causing harm or disrepute to the article content. However, even edits made in good faith that are problematic can be disruptive and lead to administrative action if the issues continue and do not stop. Anyone is welcome to stalk my user talk page so long as they are completely civil and respectful in all of their replies and comments toward others, and the answers, information, input, and/or data given is accurate and correctly explains or cites all relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines correctly. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:59, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
I was edit warring for 2 weeks, with the other party of a few users not AGF during that time or after. BTW it says experienced editors have your permission to talk page stalk here but not everyone (like me) is ezperienced.211.26.200.179 (talk) 21:56, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Like I said, don't worry about the edit warring. Just don't continue doing so and it'll be okay. Consider it a lesson learned the easy way. ;-) If you're not yet experienced on Wikipedia, lets have you hold off on talk page stalking and responding to questions here until you gain the right amount of experience first. This way, people who come to me with questions and/or requests for help will receive the right answer. :-) Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:15, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Either way please privately notify the aforementioned user about both discussions. He's not understanding some things. His name is in that discussion I wanted you to archive. Thanks.211.26.200.179 (talk) 22:13, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
I think we need to hold off on any notifications or any other attempts to keep this issue from naturally coming to a close. This issue you speak of occurred back in the beginning of May - almost a month and a half ago. I think we need to let the matter drop and move on. There's no point in continuing it any further and/or bothering the user about something so far in the past. Just move on, and if you need to interact with the user in the future, do so in a completely respectful and civil manner and you won't run into any problems. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:39, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

i need help and why was my user page deleted please help me — Preceding unsigned comment added by Exaarapking (talkcontribs) 15:48, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Exaarapking! Welcome to Wikipedia! Your user page was deleted because of a few reasons: First, it contained self-promotion about yourself, which is not what Wikipedia is for, as well as not what user pages are allowed to have. User pages can have some personalized content about yourself, but it needs to be focused primarily on Wikipedia-related content and matters. Please see Wikipedia's policy on user pages for more details regarding what's allowed and not allowed. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Thanks for the message and your understanding, and I hope you have a great weekend! Happy editing! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:53, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

On a more serious note, what exactly is Twinkle? I don't really understand what it says here and it would be helpful if someone could some it up. Also, would you recommend I use it? (Baring in mind I've been editing for just over 2 months). Regards, Willbb234 (talk) 19:33, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
    Willbb234, See this Page :-) Thegooduser Life Begins With a Smile :) 🍁 20:25, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Willbb234 - Twinkle is a gadget that adds a bunch of new and extra menu items to the top of each page. These new items will open a Twinkle form and will perform the task for you automatically. I highly recommend using Twinkle; it takes all of the tediousness out of having to manually edit pages, paste templates, and perform multiple steps in order to accomplish tasks, file requests, warn users, report users to noticeboards, and many other things. For example: nominating an article for an AFD discussion. Instead of having to manually perform all of these steps in order to properly add and start a new AFD discussion, you can just choose "AFD" from the Twinkle menu, fill in the options, and press 'submit' - and Twinkle will perform all of those steps and start the AFD discussion for you. It will save you significant time and frustration over time as you use it. :-) If you have any specific questions about Twinkle, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Enable it in your preferences and check it out; you'll definitely find it to be a handy, useful, and excellent gadget to have enabled... almost a "must have" for experienced editors who perform a lot of different tasks around Wikipedia! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:30, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Willbb234 - Here's a video that will show you how Twinkle works and what things Twinkle will do for you. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:39, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Ok, thank you very much, very understandable. I will certainly be checking it out. Thank you for your help! Willbb234 (talk) 20:41, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
    Willbb234 - You bet; always happy to help! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:43, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

User who has never edited here thanks me for a talk page edit

Hey Oshwah. I'm a bit suspicious of the editor Sixtocorbo. They just thanked me for my removal of a talk page message from a bot, and they registered in February 2010, but have made very few edits to any Wiki that I can see (edit: they have apparently made 33 edits to the Spanish Wiki). They apparently only registered their username on Commons less than a week ago, and we know who's had a history there who still follows me... Also, the bot was notifying me of an image I uploaded to a page the user I'm referring to created, which makes me even more suspicious that it's a sock account of this user. Ss112 02:58, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

Also, I emailed you about a separate issue, could you respond to that? Thanks! Ss112 10:16, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
Ss112 - Will do. I'll be checking my Wikipedia email after I'm done responding to everyone on my user talk page here. Won't be long. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:22, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

    Todd Swift

You protected the page of Todd Swift, after allegations of abuse and sexual abuse had come to light and been reported on - by doing so you have silenced victims rather than allowed the sources to stand on their own merit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.127.235.114 (talk) 18:22, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

Your assumption and your message here is incorrect. I protected Todd Swift because of the high number of unreferenced and poorly referenced edits that were occurring on that article that were violations of Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy (or BLP for short). This policy mandates that any and all edits that add content to a BLP article that are potentially contentious or controversial in nature must cite a reliable source that meets all of the requirements outlined here. Edits that fail to do this are to be removed immediately and on sight. Due to the high number of edits that were in violation of this policy, I protected the article to prevent further violations and disruptive edits. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:28, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

    Semiprotection

HI Oswah, you declined my request for Semiprotection of Chad (slang). The IP is back again changing sourced content to a version that does not match the sources. Apparently some random person from Nebraska is convinced he invented the term. Would you please reconsider the semiprotection, I'm getting tired of reverting him every couple days and he is relentless. WOPR (talk) 01:54, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi War Operation Plan Response! Thanks for leaving me a message here regarding your continued concerns with Chad (slang) and disruptive editing that's been ongoing. I took another look at the article, and I see that more of these kinds of edits have been ongoing since I first declined your request for protection. I've applied pending changes protection to the article for one month. Let me know if the disruption continues after it expires, and I'll be happy to take another look. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:31, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

    Vandalspammer

Greetings, my dear Oshwah! You asked me a question a while ago, which can't be found because all of your Talk page history is inexplicably and unbelievably deleted. How and why can that possibly be?! Anyway, you asked whether the vandalspammer I reported to you, and who then bragged of his madness right here to you on your Talk page, which you spent a minute heartily encouraging him on rather than looking at,...still was vandalspamming. Well yes he's a vandalspammer, so yes he went right on ahead and does nothing else but there's even more which has been deleted. The content and the mindlessly fervent commitment to spamming it are so dumb and inane that it may as well be patent nonsense. Just to answer your question! Enjoy, sir! — Smuckola(talk) 02:13, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) As for the page history there was personal information (I think) and every revision containing it had to be suppressed, I was told.211.26.200.179 (talk) 09:42, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
You must be thinking of a different spammer, because this guy has only made redirect spam. There is no personal information unless his username is real, and unless it’s possible that a human being can actually give a once-innocent baby a middle name of "Boy". — Smuckola(talk) 22:43, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
No, I was just saying what happened earlier.60.241.211.132 (talk) 07:05, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Smuckola - I appreciate you for responding and for updating me on this user. It looks like Michael Boy Jordan has not edited since the end of May, and has slowed down editing throughout that month. There isn't anything that I can do now, since the account is stale, but if the user edits again and continues causing disruption, please open a new report at ANI so that we can take a look and follow through with proper action. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:34, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
As I just said, yes he has, just this week, and it has been deleted. Probably half of his edit history has been deleted so it's invisible. So he's just been slipping through the cracks of several reports over the months. Can an admin not see a user's history of created articles that have been deleted? — Smuckola(talk) 22:41, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Smuckola - Admins can see deleted contributions by a user, yes. I just didn't look there. ;-) It looks like their contributions have stopped since June 11. I just left the user a warning for the repeated creation of inappropriate pages on their user talk page. If the user continues with their shenanigans and if the user continues to make disruptive edits, please let me know and I'll be happy to take care of the issue. ;-) Thanks again - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:50, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

    NOTHERE editor

This edit is pretty typical for Enigma1469. Hes been here over three years and I can't see any redeeming qualities. I'd indeff if I were a mop man, YMMV. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 07:33, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

    PaleoNeonate - LOL. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:36, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi John from Idegon! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding this user and their disruptive edits. Oh yeah, the diff you shared contains an edit that is completely unacceptable and I also see additional edits in this user's history that are clearly vandalism. Since the account is stale at this moment, I can't take any action. However, this user has been given a final warning that I'll have no problem holding them to. If the user makes another disruptive edit, or adds any more vandalism to Wikipedia, please let me know and I'll be happy to take action. If I'm offline, report the user to AIV or ANI. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:39, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

    1972 Genocide of Burundian Hutus

Hello I saw that a page with this title was redlinked on List of genocides by death toll which seemed like something need remedying! Went to create a new page for it and saw that a page under the title was deleted by you in May 2019. Just wondering what led to that before I do anything else? Thanks AmplifyWiki (talk) 03:02, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi AmplifyWiki! Thanks for leaving me a message here regarding the 1972 Genocide of Burundian Hutus article. I'll be more than happy to answer your questions and help you with it. :-) The article was deleted under G5 of Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion. In short, a user created this article while in violation of the current block that's set on their original account. They purposefully evaded their block and was using a different account in order to be deceptive and avoid being caught (again). This is why the article was deleted. However, I took a look at the deleted content and I believe that, while rules were broken that would call for a G5 deletion, it's not mandatory that we do this. Instead of giving the sock user credit and awarding them for violating Wikipedia's policies, I added a dummy edit in order to create a revision that would serve as the latest one, then I performed a partial restore with that revision only. If you take a look at the article now, you should see that there's now content available. You're free to edit and modify the article as you wish, just as you would any other article. :-) Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help you further. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:49, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

    Issue with account

This account recently edit warred (initial insertion plus two reversions after warned not to do it) to insert garbage into a BLP. If this were the first offense, I would not make an issue of it, but it has a long history of bad edits. See the litany of warnings here. Enigmamsg 03:11, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) He has so many warnings that it's best to just block him. He seems to be extremely disruptive yet he constantly avoids punishment. He seems trying to cheat the system. InvalidOS (talk) 15:50, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
I agree. If it were up to me, I would've blocked him after the most recent instance. Enigmamsg 16:53, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi Enigmaman! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding Kaneandhicks and their continued disruption being made to the project. It looks like the account isn't active right now, so I need to hold off on taking action until the account continues and adds more disruption, and while it's currently happening and in progress. If you find the account to be doing this, let me know right away so that I can take justified action against them. If I'm offline, report the user to AIV or ANI. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:52, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Oshwah, that's what we do with IPs, but I don't believe a registered user has to be active to justify action being taken. Enigmamsg 21:58, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Enigmaman - It applies regardless of how the user is editing Wikipedia, whether it be anonymously or through a registered account. Applying administrative action toward a user when the disruption is not actively or currently occurring is discouraged by the community. This is due to the fact that the line starts to become fuzzy in relation to WP:BLOCKP and whether or not the block is still considered preventative at that point. The threshold for that line is different depending on the issue and the offense, as well as how severe the offenses are. But in this case, we don't need to run toward action. This is why I'm choosing to hold off for now and until the account becomes active again. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:43, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
OK. On another note, I know it's a lot to take in, but have you seen this? Enigmamsg 00:21, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Enigmaman - I heard that Fram received a one-year WMF Office ban from the WMF. I haven't read much more into the situation, what Fram did, what happened, why, what happened in response, why the WMF, etc... is there a page that summarizes exactly what happened with all of this? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:35, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Yes! I linked to it above. See the word 'this'. :) Oshawott's been active. Enigmamsg 01:07, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Enigmaman - Ah, I did see that link. It looked to be a big discussion in response to what happened, not so-much a page that summarizes the events... but, knowing myself, I probably missed it. ;-) Thanks, I'll take another look at the link you provided for me above. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:32, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Ohhhh, I see now... Okay, I'm just an idiot. Thanks. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:34, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, it includes a few different summaries. Much more succinct than attempting to read the full "minutes" of what happened. Enigmamsg 01:52, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
    Enigmaman - Indeed. Thanks again :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:56, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

    Vandalism

To be brought to the immediate attention of Oshwah ... Hello Oshwah. it has been a long time since we had talked. However, this is not a fun message. A user was vandalizing the dumplings wikipedia page. I reverted those edits, but before, the main template was clearly saying "Pigs" instead of "Dumplings". Also, the caption read "Donald duck" instead of "Dumplings were invented in china". I have reverted those edits but just to be sure, we might want to temporarily put a silver lock on that page as a precaution as the user was not logged in. IP Address was: 115.64.14.16 --Thatphatguy (talk) 14:43, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) That's not a valid reason for page protection. It is a valid reason to block the IP, however. InvalidOS (talk) 15:41, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi Thatphatguy! Thanks for leaving me a message here regarding the vandalism that was occurring on the Dumpling Wikipedia article. It looks like the disruption has stopped since late yesterday and hasn't continued onto today, so I'm willing to bet that what you were seeing was just vandalism by some kids from a school or similar institute, and it stopped due to them leaving the lab or computer area that they were occupying. Since the disruption seems to have stopped, I'm going to hold off on taking any action at this time. However, if you see any of this vandalism or disruption continuing on the article, let me know and I'll be happy to take another look. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:20, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

    Wikipedia Page

why is page getting deleted? it's User:Catehamiltonmusic — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catehamiltonmusic (talkcontribs) 01:34, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Catehamiltonmusic, and welcome to Wikipedia! Your user page was deleted under U5 of Wikpedia's speedy deletion criteria. In short, the content you added to your user page looked to be intended to advertise and/or promote yourself - things that were not Wikipedia-related. Please review and make sure that you understand Wikipeidia's policies and guidelines regarding user pages, as well as what they are not to be used for. The guideline page states that user pages are not to be used as a forum, resume, social networking profile, or web host, or for purposes unrelated to Wikipedia's goals. This was why your user page was deleted.
Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be very helpful to you. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding Wikipedia's policies and guidelines on user pages, and I'll be happy to answer them. I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:42, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

    If you are still awake

Hello O. You protected the Roderick Strong (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) article a little bit ago. They have also edited as DragoDominkovicfan34 (talk · contribs) (who was blocked as a sock of HBillMurray (talk · contribs). AIV, ANEW, and RFPP's have all been filed but if you could protect the Colm Meaney article that would be great. If you've already logged off hopefully someone else will get to them. Help needed

Hello @Oshwah: sir, it has been a bit difficult for m to manage and revert edit and vandalism from up and edit wars. It would be easy and hence I gain some more experience which I could have permission such as Autopatrolled, New pages patrol/Reviewers or Rollback. I'm aware with Wikipedia's policy, notability, npov. And I can assure you I will abide by the rules n regulations. AR.Dmg (talk) 08:41, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi AR.Dmg, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns and your request for assistance. I'll be happy to point you in a few directions so that you'll have a much easier time with reverting vandalism and disruption. It looks like you have Twinkle enabled, which will make performing tasks such as adding requests, reports, warnings, notes, and other items much easier to do. Have you looked through the ultimate guide to recent changes patrolling? This page will provide you with a lot of guides, tips, advice, tools and scripts to try out, and many other pieces of information that you'll find to be very useful. Wikipedia's Counter-Vandalism Unit page also has a bunch of useful information that you should read through as well. Their tools page also lists a bunch of great tools and scripts that will help make patrolling, locating, and reverting vandalism a very easy and fun task. Give these pages a read-through, and give the tool pages a look as well. You'll benefit greatly by implementing extra tools and scripts that you're comfortable with and find to be helpful to you, and using them to help locate and revert vandalism.
As far as user rights are concerned (autopatrolled, pending changes reviewer, and rollback), each user right has different requirements before an admin will grant and assign them to you. The autopatrolled user right is only given to users who regularly create articles and who demonstrate familiarity with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially those on biographies of living persons, copyrights, verifiability and notability. The autopatrolled user right does not affect your ability to view, edit, create, or do anything technical at all on Wikipedia. It only automatically marks your page creations as 'patrolled' on new page logs and related pages so that other users won't need to look through them and mark them as patrolled manually. It looks like you do regularly create pages, but I'm concerned with the number of image notices you have on your user talk page regarding non-free images. Before anyone could consider you for being a user that's autopatrolled, this issue needs to be addressed first (as Geniac pointed out to you on your user talk page a couple of days ago). You need to read and understand Wikipedia:Non-free content, and demonstrate this understanding by not receiving any more notices on your user talk page for at least a few months before giving the autopatrolled flag would be even considered.
I do note that you have experience with reverting vandalism, as I've seen from your contributions. However, reverting vandalism is only part of what you should be doing if you want to be trusted with the rollback permissions. You also need to warn users on their user talk pages when they add vandalism or disruption to Wikipedia, so that they're given fair notice and opportunities to stop. I also see that you haven't reported any repeat offenders to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism if they've continued being disruptive and after being sufficiently warned. This is also something you need to start doing, and what admins want to see a consistent history of you doing properly, before they'd consider you for the rollback user rights. These rights are given to users only after they've demonstrated a high level of proficiency and trust in these areas, since rollback not only gives you the ability to revert all the edits made to an article by an editor with a single click and without any confirmation, but having rollback also grants you access to powerful tools such as Huggle and other anti-vandalism programs that only allow users with the rollback user rights to access them.
Given your overall experience on Wikipedia and your commitment to keeping disruption and vandalism removed from articles and pages, I have no problem with granting you the pending changes reviewer rights, and will do so momentarily. Once you feel that you've met the necessary requirements for the other user rights, you can request them by visiting Wikipedia:Requests for permissions and adding yourself to the relevant list. Make sure to only request user rights that you think you meet the requirements for and will actually use in order to improve Wikipedia. Administrators who believe that users are requesting a bunch of user rights simply to "hat collect" (or request user rights for the simple purpose of just "having them") will not grant anything. You're supposed to request user rights after you've demonstrated the need for them and you meet the requirements from your editing history, not beforehand and with the promise that you'll meet the requirements and use them properly. It doesn't work that way. :-)
I hope that my response has provided you with a lot of help, links to good pages, and information that you're looking for. Give those vandalism patrol and anti-vandalism tool pages a read-through, try out some programs and scripts to see if they'll help you with patrolling, reverting, warning, and reporting users, and give the permissions level page a look-through as well, so that you'll understand the requirements for the ones you asked about, and how each of them function. If you have any more questions after reading through the links I provided you, please don't hesitate to respond and ask them. I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you with anything you need. Good luck with patrolling for vandalism, and keep up the great work that you've accomplished. We really appreciate your hard work and dedication! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:36, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Hello @Oshwah: sir, what do you think. Do I have met necessary requirements to ask for the user rights. What do get to know by my edit history. Thanks for guiding me. AR.Dmg (talk) 09:52, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi AR.Dmg! As I said in my response above, I think that you need a few months' worth of experience with warning users and reporting repeat offenders to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism before you should consider requesting rollback. I also think that you should demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of Wikipedia:Non-free content, and demonstrate this understanding by not receiving any more notices on your user talk page for at least a few months before considering applying for the autopatrolled user right. You've been granted the pending changes reviewer user right. Part of what will help you to be granted rollback and other user rights is to show your persistent and consistent understanding and good use of the pending changes reviewer rights as well. Please let me know if you have any more questions. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:18, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Hello @Oshwah: sir, 2405:205:40A9:47C3:0:0:1F19:E0AC (talk · contribs · (/64) · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). I can't understand his edit history. What he/she wants to demonstrate actually. He is warning me due to translate template where it's should be used. and IP the user was reverted it. Should I warn and report. Please assist me. AR.Dmg (talk) 10:23, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
AR.Dmg - Are you referring to the edit warring that you're contributing to on Dill Mill Gayye? Why are you reverting this IP user's edits without leaving an explanation in the edit summary? What is the IP user adding or modifying exactly that you believe should be reverted? The edits that the IP user is making to this article doesn't stand out as being vandalism or disruption to me... why are you reverting the users's edits? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:34, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Hello @Oshwah: sir, the ip user was cleaning up some important information from the article. And that are to important and relevant to the subject. If it would be relevant or important. There are many experienced editor who would have done clean up of the article Dill Mill Gaye. I accept my mistake that I missed out the edit summary for just fews time, and now I would take of that. And also I want to have good rapport with my fellow edirors on Wikipedia. And I try to edit only with good faith sir. AR.Dmg (talk) 10:44, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
AR.Dmg - Instead of repeatedly reverting the IP user's edits, you should take the time to explain your reason for reverting the user's edit and exactly what content you feel that the user is changing that shouldn't be and why. I don't believe that the IP user did anything wrong... unless you can explain otherwise? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:45, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Hello @Oshwah:, yes sir I understand the mistake. It's actually creating a argue between the two of us. I would keep my this mistake in mind and won't do it again. It's would be available be available in edit history anymore. Thanks u for suggestions u were a good help actually. Last help could you suggest me the video for understanding the Wikipedia policy in a way a bit more. AR.Dmg (talk) 10:50, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
AR.Dmg - Wikipedia's new user tutorial is full of walkthroughs, guides, videos, lessons, explanations - everything you need to get started and learn the basics of Wikipedia and how it works. I highly recommend that you go through and complete the entire tutorial if you haven't before. It'll provide a significant amount of policy-related help to you, if that's what you're looking for. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:52, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

    2A00:23C4:4200:8101:41E5:9437:A497:E3FC (low priority)

I can see you spend enough time firefighting without getting bogged down in isolated individual cases. But just in case an automated vandalism detection routine is misbehaving, I thought I should flag this one up. User:2A00:23C4:4200:8101:41E5:9437:A497:E3FC made just one edit, which was to remove some serious vandalism from Stagecoach X5. So a bouquet was deserved, not a half brick.

No need to reply, you have better things to do with your time. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 15:30, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi John Maynard Friedman, and thanks for the message! This IP is part of a range that I had to block due to repeated vandalism and disruption from multiple IP addresses within that range. If you take a look at the range's contributions, you'll see the numerous edits that were being made to Biddick Academy and by at least three different IPs from within that IP range. Not to worry; the block is only for 36 hours. If innocent users who are the result of collateral damage from that range wish to avoid this in the future, they just need to create an account when the IP range block expires. Then they won't be affected should the range need to be blocked again. Because you pointed this IP user out to me, as well as the fact that the user removed vandalism, I went and left a thank you message on that user's talk page. :-) Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to answer them and discuss them with you. :-) Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:31, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Ah,thank you. I didn't think of a range block. I'm still not up to speed with IP6 addresses. I guessed collateral damage but couldn't see the mechanism. So in the absence of a good conspiracy theory, the only option left was a cock-up :-)
Thank you also for your Labours of Hercules (or do I mean Sisyphus?) work on anti-vandalism. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 18:43, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
John Maynard Friedman - No worries. IPv6 is a totally different ball game. However, if you take some time and read up on it, you'll find that it's really not too bad. :-) You bet! Thank you for the kind words, and I appreciate you for coming to me with your questions and concerns so that I could address them and help you. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to help. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:41, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Hey I cant block you mate, why is that? MartiaILaw (talk) 04:47, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi MartiaILaw! Welcome to Wikipedia! Why would you want to block me? I've been a good editor... why me? :-( ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:52, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Lol just kidding. Have a nice day my friend. MartiaILaw (talk) 05:12, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

    Hello

So i just noticed that this user moved Donal Bisht to Draft:Donal Bisht without a reason and created a redirect. Please move the draft back to the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2405:205:42AA:6229:0:0:111A:C0AC (talk) 05:44, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

     Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:47, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the help. Another thing, there is enough notabilty and reliable sources for Shehzad Shaikh but the page has been protected highly. If you could remove the protection and redirect it, i could add info and you could check for mistakes. And same is for Divya Agarwal — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2405:205:42aa:6229::111a:c0ac (talk) 05:59, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
FYI - this is just an IP address of a Dimpletisha sock. If you look at both of the articles they just mentioned, all protected because of this long-term sock master. Ravensfire (talk) 06:09, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Ravensfire - But he sounds so innocent!!! Well that's a bummer... Cool, thanks for the heads up. Guess I should stop taking the user's responses seriously then, huh? ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:27, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

    Deletion

Why was the page And information I posted deleted. It is accurate and true. I even added sources to prove the validity of the identity of MAVANI Music Artist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MAVANIAKAMIA (talkcontribs) 09:09, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi MAVANIAKAMIA, and welcome to Wikipedia!
:-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:11, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

    SPA issue

Hi, Osh - would you take a look at this and the few other edits made by that account? In the diff I provided, the IP actually admits to an agenda, "...every statement here is obviously agenda driven..I have an agenda but I admit it." It's already difficult to work in that t-area without adding more distractions so I was wondering if a semi-protect or pending changes action would help? Atsme Talk 📧 17:42, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Atsme! I hope you're having a great day and that life is treating you well. :-) Sure, I'll be happy to take a look. I think that we should talk to the user and try and educate them on Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, and advise them that blatantly driving an agenda in discussions and on articles is disruptive behavior. If the user keeps adding these kinds of comments or edits, report them to AIV or ANI. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:59, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Maybe someone will - it won't be me, Osh. I avoid noticeboards like the plague, and if I do venture in, you can rest assured I'll be wearing flame-retardant underwear. I am already trying to help newbies here and there, and have been mentoring a long time editor for the past year. With levity I'll say that I never imagined after 8 years on WP, I'd end up being house mother to a world-wide kindergarten class. ^_^ And I'm still here, perhaps because subconsciously I enjoy helping others. Thanks for the well wishes, and same back at ya! Atsme Talk 📧 18:10, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi Atsme! I apologize for the delay responding to your message here. I was busy this week with work and other things. :-) No worries; I don't blame you one bit for avoiding noticeboards if you can help it. Some noticeboards, like AIV, AN3, UAA, AN, ANINT, BN, etc aren't that bad and usually aren't too "drama-ridden". If you avoid all noticeboards because of the negative impressions or feelings that you got from ANI, I assure you that nearly all other noticeboards (like the ones I listed) don't usually get that bad, though once in awhile someone will bring all of it with them. Regarding the IP user you reported: Lets keep an eye on them for now, and if things continue to appear as if they have a strong POV, a single-issue or single-purpose agenda, or possible even a COI - let me know and I'll look into things further. That's great that you get fulfillment and joy out of helping other editors. Wikipedia needs editors who are patient and willing to help others, and who have the level of people skills necessary to remain calm and cool at all times and to never let themselves lose their emotions and break civility. Keep up the excellent work, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or if you need my input, advice, or help with anything. I'll be more than happy to lend a hand. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:45, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

    Hello!

Hi Oshwah, just catching up to see how you've been? Best wishes Willbb234 (talk) 20:26, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Willbb234! I apologize for the delay responding to your message here. I was busy over the last week or so with work and other things, and I'm just now getting all caught up with my Wikipedia messages, pings, emails, requests for help, etc. I'm doing well. Just been more busy than usual, but other than that - no complaints. How are you doing? How's Wikipedia treating you? Do you have any questions about Wikipedia that I can answer? :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:48, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
Good to hear that you are well! I’m doing very well thank you, I’ve been contributing to the help desk a little bit to give back to the community that has helped me - it definitely feels satisfying knowing that I’ve tried my best to help others. Things are going well in ꞌreal lifeꞌ, not too busy but enough to keep me occcupied. Stay safe, Willbb234 (talk) 06:21, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
Willbb234 - Assisting at the help desk is a great task that many don't have the patience for; I'm glad to hear that you're spending time there and helping new users with their proficiency with Wikipedia. Remember to try and point new users who have accounts to go through Wikipedia's new user tutorial as part of your response there, as that place will provide them with everything they need to know in order to get started on Wikipedia. ;-) Message me any time! It's great to talk to you again, and I'm always happy to see how you're doing and what you're up to! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:57, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

    Oshwah

You seemed to have made a grammatical error on the page “Oshwah”, having typed “AFD’s”. Due to it not being a contraction or possession, instead a plural, the correct form is “AFDs”.

Just wanted to point this out

This account hasn't edited in a couple weeks, but maybe it should be blocked, due to the users comment here. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 16:09, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

    • (talk page stalker) @FlightTime: We should only block if it happens again. Just keep an eye on him and if anything else bad happens, report it here. Cheers :) DrewieStewie (talk) 07:54, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi FlightTime! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns about this account. The user's comment that you provided definitely reads off as a terrible excuse to me, if not a complete fabrication. Regardless, we should take this comment (as well as any comment that states that someone's own account was compromised) seriously, and we should have the user create a new account that's secure and has a different password. I know that the account is well beyond stale now, which in most cases means that blocking it isn't necessary. However, when it comes to security-related concerns in relation to an account, we should be doing our diligence to close any open risks when possible. Hence, I went ahead and soft-blocked the account as "compromised" and indicated so in the reason (along with the diff), and I'll leave a note on the user's talk page and explain the situation. The soft block will allow the user to create a new account any time he/she wishes, or simply edit anonymously if they wish to do that instead. I think that this is the best solution that resolves any security risk while allowing the affected user to continue editing (either with a new account or anonymously) if he/she wishes. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to help. Thanks again for the message and for expressing your concerns, and I'm sure we'll run into one another again soon. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:00, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
     Done. I left a message for the user here. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:07, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi there, and thanks for sharing the source that you referenced when editing the Watertown, Wisconsin article here. In the future, you want to cite your sources in-line with the text that you're changing. This way, your source is added to the article and others will be able to see and review it. Please refer to the page that I linked you to for more information as well as instructions on how to do this. Nonetheless, I appreciate your message very much. If you have any questions regarding anything in the guide that I linked you to, let me know and I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:11, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

History join request – Kennicott Glacier

Hi, Oshwah! I have found the Kennicott Glacier article has been cut from a misspelled title Kennicot Glacier and pasted into its current, correct place instead of moved in November 2005. As a result it has lost an initial part of its history, most notably the very first version by its original author, RedWolf (not to mention my tiny improvement ). I hope you can fix it. Have a good day! --CiaPan (talk) 08:34, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

    P.S.
Did I ever mention I love a big smile at the top of your talkpage? It makes me smile each time I come here! CiaPan (talk)

Hi CiaPan! I appreciate the message and the very kind words. Not a problem; the issue you speak of can easily be resolved by performing a history merge. I'll have that done in a jiffy! Should take but only a minute or two... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:13, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
CiaPan -  Done. Thanks again for the heads up. The histories have been merged on the correct article, and the miss-spelled version has been replaced with redirects to the correct one. If you see any more copy-and-paste moves like this that splits up the edit history into multiple places, let me know and I'll be more than happy to resolve them. I'm one of only a handful of admins that understand, are experienced with, and regularly perform history merges, so I'm glad that you ran into me for help. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:19, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

The page is being vandalised by two different IPs. I don't know if they are the same person or not. Because the IPs are changing I'm concerned that any given IP will not reach the required 4 warnings for WP:ANV reporting. IPs vandalising: 66.215.194.49 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 89.236.35.53 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). I've done two reversions so can't do any more! Update: don't worry, El C has stepped in and protected it. Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 19:08, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Martin of Sheffield! Sorry I'm so late to the party! I'm glad that El C was able to step in and resolve the matter. If you see any more issues that require my assistance, please don't hesitate to message me here and let me know. I'll be more than happy to help. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:21, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
Hey, don't stress and don't apologise. I've always assumed that you were a human not a machine, so you need to sleep, eat, live and work like the rest of us. The problem is dealt with and the sun is shining for a change. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 07:47, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
