East-west streets
  • 6th Street: last relatively flat street
  • 5th Street: Hope breaks, since it would pass over 5th, which is in a cut; formerly didn't exist between Figueroa and Grand
  • Hollywood Subway: portal west of Hill
  • 4th Street: over Figueroa (1956), over Flower (1956, ramps 1972), under Hope (1969), under Grand main lanes (1975); various ramps go up and down alongside
    • Gradually rises from 110 east, passing over Figueroa and Flower, the latter in a valley, and then passing under Hope and Grand in a cut before slightly descending as it crosses Olive to Hill
  • 3rd Street: (1901 3rd Street Tunnel: under Hope, under Grand both levels, under Olive)
    • Each tunnel entrance is at ground level
    • Upper level: Hope to Grand main lanes
      • Rises slightly from above the tunnel portal to upper Grand
  • Kosciuszko Way (ex-2nd Place): only goes from Flower to Olive; over Flower northbound (1968), under Grand main lanes (1975)
    • Rises slightly from Flower to Hope, then passes under upper Grand (which is at the crest of the hill) and ends at Olive (which is about the same elevation as Hope)
  • 2nd Street: (1920 2nd Street Tunnel: would be under Flower, under Hope, under Grand both levels, under Olive)
    • Each tunnel entrance is at ground level
    • Upper level: Hope to Grand main lanes, Olive down to 2nd main lanes at Hill
      • Rises slightly from Hope to upper Grand; descends from Olive to Hill
  • 1st Street: over Figueroa (1940)
    • Ascends as it passes over Figueroa, then heads across the hill and slowly descends
  • Temple Street: over Figueroa (1940) (for traffic flow, not because of hills)
    • Rises and falls gradually
  • Sunset Boulevard: under Hill (1959)
    • Essentially located on the south edge of a second hill
North-south streets
  • Figueroa Street: under 4th (1956), under 1st (1940), under Temple (1940)
    • Stays west of the main part of the hill; mainly passes under streets that rise to get up the hill
  • Flower Street: under 4th (1956, ramps 1972), northbound under Kosciuszko access (1968); merges with Hope near 2nd
    • Stays west of the hill until it curves northeast to merge with Hope; northbound rise is a bit more gradual because of the underpass
  • Hope Street: broken at 5th, over 4th (1969), over 3rd (1901), over 2nd main lanes (1920)
    • Generally on the west edge of the hill, passing over only cuts and tunnels
  • Grand Avenue: over 4th (1975), over 3rd (1901), over Kosciuszko (1975), over 2nd main lanes (1920)
    • Gradually climbs the hill, actually lying slightly above the ground level in areas; upper level passes over all streets except upper 3rd and 2nd, which ramp up to meet it; starts descending after 2nd
    • Lower level: 4th to north of 2nd?; over 3rd (1901) and under 3rd upper level (1975), over 2nd main lanes (1920) and under 2nd upper level (1975)
      • At or slightly below ground level; only intersects 4th (which is in a cut) and Kosciuszko (in a slight cut)
  • Olive Street: over 3rd (1901), over 2nd main lanes (1920), ends at 1st (because of the Civic Center)
    • Along the east edge of the hill; gradually rises
  • Hill Street: formerly under Court (north of 1st), formerly under California (near Aliso) for streetcars only to west of Hill Place, over Sunset (1959)
    • Remains east of the hill until it almost reaches Temple (beyond the tunnel under Court, where the hill has been removed), where it starts rising to the top of the hill that the streetcar tunnel went under (that was a bit to the west), then descends as it crosses over Sunset
  • Broadway: formerly under Fort Moore (near Arcadia)
    • Stays almost completely east of the hill, which has been removed in the area of the former tunnel
