Ecosystems Ecosystems: A community of interacting organisms and their natural environment almost like a town or city.
What types of animals are in the Hawthorne Park ecosystems? Some animals native to BC are Bald Eagles, Beaver, Ladybugs, Blue Jays, Spotted Owls, and Raccoons. These are all animals that you can find in BC.
Some animals you can find in Hawthorne park are Striped Skunk, Raccoon, Spotted Owl, Blue Jay, Salmon, Canada Goose, and sometimes you can see a Bald Eagle. If you go to Hawthorne Park you may see any of these animals. Some other animals that you might see in the park are Peregrine Falcon, Porcupines, Rainbow Trout, and a Pacific Loon.
Some invasive plants you can find in Hawthorne park are English Ivy, Policeman's Helmet, Himalayan Blackberry, and the Yellow Lamium. The English Ivy chokes other plants out and that kills the other plants then they take that space, and repeats that with other plants. The Policeman's Helmet can send its seeds flying 5 meters away from the plant so it spreads quickly. The Himalayan Blackberry can spread across a large expanse of land in only a few years because the seeds are berries and animals try to eat them and leave pieces they didn't eat and that grows. The Yellow Lamium has seeds that ants like to eat so when the ants carry them away ant get iit buried other places
A keystone animal you can find in Hawthorne Park is a salmon. It is a keystone species bed on Hawthorne Park cause other animals eat it and if salmon die those other animals will have less food and eventually they will die also and so on then all the plants won't grow because there won't be animals to pollinate. After that there will be no Hawthorne Park or clean streams.
Some Invasive animals that you can find in BC are:
European Cottontail Rabbit,Yellow Perch,
New Zealand Mudsnail, and aCommon Carp The New Zealand Mudsnails are often found living in high densities (higher than 400,000 snails/sq meter) and can disrupt the natural ecology by out-competing native aquatic snails and insects.Rabbits damage plants, including oak seedlings and wild flowers they kill shrubs and trees by eating the bark and exposed roots, and can overgraze an area. The Yellow Perch is a voracious competitor with native fish species it is an omnivore, eating plants, insects, mollusks, small invertebrates and other fish, including juvenile native salmon. Carp compete with native fish for food and have a voracious appetite, feeding on plants and aquatic invertebrates such as insects, worms and mollusks. When feeding, carp stir up the river or lake bottom and uproot plants, muddying the water and deteriorating habitat.
Some of the native plants you can find in Hawthorne Park are:
Sword Fern, Indian Plum, Pacific Ninebark, Wild Rose
These are all native plants to British Columbia and you can find them all in Hawthorne Park.
Nursery Logs
Nurse Logs are dead trees that help support the forest by collecting nutrients that plants and animals may need. They can be used as homes for a variety of different animals. In hawthorne What I mean by support is they are used as homes for animals, sometimes used as food. Plants can use them as homes and in them there are extra nutrients that will help the plants grow.
