Neeli Bar (also spelt Nili; Punjabi: نیلی بار) is the section of the Bar region in western Punjab located between the rivers Ravi and Sutlej.[1] It comprises the central and southern parts of Bari Doab, and corresponds to the present-day Okara, Sahiwal, and Pakpattan districts.[2]

The Neeli bar falls within the central portion of Bari Doab (purple colour) in this map

Neeli Bar derives its name from the blue (Punjabi: Neela) colour of river Sutlej. The region is particularly well-known for the water buffalo breed, the Nili-Ravi.[3] Like the rest of Bar region, Neeli Bar was sparsely populated until the agricultural colonisation of the area in 1926, when Nili Bar Colony was established.[4]
