Cynthia Busic-Snyder was born in central Ohio on March 9, 1962. She was raised with two brothers by depression-era working class parents John A. Busic and Marguerite Rumbaoa Busic. She attended McGuffey Elementary school and Hamilton Township Middle and High Schools. She studied Visual Communication Design in the Department of Industrial Design at the Ohio State University where she developed an interest in both practicing and teaching graphic design. After working as a graphic designer for Retail Planning Associates (Columbus, Ohio) and art director (identity, point of purchase, signage systems and print (collateral materials) for both retail (Moorehead Design) and business to business clients (Fekete + Company) internationally she shifted her focus to higher education and instructional design. During her teaching tenure she earned a number of awards, including "Who's Who among American Teachers" the 2007 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2007 Genesis Group Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Cynthia Busic-Snyder co-authored her first textbook with A. Charles Wallschlaeger entitled "Basic Visual Concepts and Principles for Artists Architects and Designers" (ISBN-13: 978-0697006516 or ISBN-10: 0697006514) by William C. Brown Publishers (later purchased by McGraw-Hill) in 1992. The textbook is known for its comprehensive approach to teaching and learning compositional concepts germane to studying and researching content in the fields of art, architecture, graphic design, product design, and environmental space design at the college level. In 1996 "Basic Visual Concepts and Principles" was translated and republished in Chinese ( ISBN 9578823584) She authored her second textbook, "A Typographic Workbook: A Primer to History, Techniques, and Artistry 2nd Edition" (ISBN-13: 978-0471696902 or ISBN-10: 0471696900)which was originally written by Kate Clair. Published by Wiley in 2008, with more than 450 images, A Typographic Workbook, Second Edition focuses on the selection, use and integration of type in the visual communication process. It is also available as "Manual de Tipografia. A História, a Técnica e a Arte (Em Portuguese do Brasil) translated in Portuguese Brazilian.
Following a teaching career of nearly 20 years in higher education, she now works as a textile artist and printmaker in rural upstate New York. Her work can be seen at cynthiabusicsnyder.com.
