The UK Singles Chart is one of many music charts compiled by the Official Charts Company that calculates the best-selling singles of the week in the United Kingdom.[1] Since 2004 the chart has been based on the sales of both physical singles and digital downloads, with airplay figures excluded from the official chart.[2][3] Since 2014, the singles chart has been based on both sales and streaming; in 2024 it uses the ratio of 150 streams equivalent to one sale (not 100:1 as previously).[4]
Chart rules were altered again from 7 July 2018 to help new artists break through by limiting the number of tracks by the same artist allowed in the chart at the same time to 3. The streaming to sales ratio remained largely unchanged but for songs which have spent a high number of weeks in the chart the ratio is altered to 300:1.[5] This list shows singles that have peaked in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart during 2024, as well as songs which peaked in 2023 or 2025 but were in the top 40 in 2024. The entry date is when the song appeared in the top 40 for the first time (week ending, as published by the Official Charts Company, which is six days after the chart is announced).
Two-hundred and ninety-seven singles have been in the top forty this year (as of 19th December, week ending). Sixty-eight singles from 2023 remained in the top 40 for several weeks at the beginning of the year, or re-entered during the year.
The list of singles that charted in 2023 but did not peak until 2024 include "Angel Numbers / Ten Toes" by Chris Brown, "Back on 74" by Jungle, "DJ Play a Christmas Song" by Cher, "DNA (Loving You)" by Billy Gillies featuring Hannah Boleyn, "I Remember Everything" by Zach Bryan & Kacey Musgraves, "Labour" by Paris Paloma, "leavemealone" by Fred Again & Baby Keem, "Lil Boo Thang" by Paul Russell, "On My Love" by David Guetta & Zara Larsson, "Popular" by The Weeknd, Playboi Carti and Madonna, "Rich Baby Daddy" by Drake featuring Sexyy Red & SZA, "Runaway" by Kanye West featuring Pusha T, "Stay Another Day" by Jorja Smith, "Stick Season" by Noah Kahan, "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole and "Winter Wonderland" by Laufey. A selection of Christmas songs which had charted in 2023 returned to the chart at the end of the year and reached a new peak for their latest run in 2024.
Fifty-four artists have had multiple entries in the top forty in 2024 (as of 15th August, week ending), with Taylor Swift having the most entries (8). Singles that reached the top ten this year are featured here but also included in their own article.
