Inclusion of league

[edit]

I am interested in opinions of others if we should include league or not in the lead? There seem to be a difference of opinion at the moment. QED237 (talk) 20:54, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I consider it a little redundant to add the league in the lead, as it can be just added in the infobox, but if it actually is neccessary, then go to it. --ToonLucas22 (talk) 01:01, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Will make a start on this soon! JAGUAR  16:52, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Can the second paragraph of the lead be merged with the first one per WP:LEADLENGTH? It's also for organisational purposes.
  • "An explosive and creative player on the ball" - too informal, especially for the lead
  • The 2016 season should be split into two paragraphs so it makes it easier to read
  • "Italy finished runners up to Spain in the final in a heavy 4–0 loss" - Italy finished as runners up to Spain in the final in a heavy 4–0 loss
  • The media and personal life sections are extremely short, can they be merged elsewhere?
  • Ref 31 is dead and also needs properly formatting
  • Ref 35, ref 47, 49, and ref 8 are all dead
  • No DAB links

Those were all of the issues I could find, albeit minor. The prose, as usual, is excellent and I couldn't find many issues with that. Once all of the above have been clarified then this should be good to go! JAGUAR  15:16, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jaguar: Dead links and prose/grammar fixed. Where do you suggest we move the media and personal life sections? Early life probably won't be appropriate since it's not about his early life...maybe make a section called "Outisde professional football" and put the two sentences in there, although still short. And also, do you mean the 2015 season should be split? The 2016 season seems fine. Also, we usually keep seasons together, since if we split into two, what would we call it? "First half of 2015 season" "Second half of 2015 season"? Thanks, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 15:39, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that the big paragraph from the 2016 section could be split, not the actual header itself, but I'll leave it to you as it's only a very minor issue. Regarding the short early life and media sections, if no other alternative can be made then I'm fine with leaving it like that. Usually very short sections are discouraged if they can be easily merged elsewhere, but as this isn't the case here then it should be fine to ignore. Anyway, with all of the other issues out of the way I think it already meets the GA criteria as it is, so I'll promote this. Well done! JAGUAR  16:13, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jaguar: Ah, I see! I now split the 2016 section into two paragraphs. Thanks! Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:18, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

National Team

[edit]

He hasn't been called up to the national team in a long time. It's misleading to say he currently plays for the national team. 64.231.158.68 (talk) 00:10, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That is not a reason because there is no definitive number for “a long time” and how that relates to the national team. A source of international retirement is a reason. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 00:13, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
According to the article on the national team, he hasn't been called up in the last 12 months. [1]. That seems like a good measure. It's accepted as a good measure on that page. 64.231.158.68 (talk) 13:03, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
On national team pages, yes we only state players called up in the last year, same with displaying recent fixtures, for space reasons obviously, but this doesn't apply to a specific footballer on his specific page. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 13:15, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What, then, do you think the standard should be? If a player plays one game for his national team at age 18, should he still be listed as a national team player when he's 28? I've proposed a standard - one year. If you reject it, why don't you propose an alternative? Simply saying "no" doesn't move us any closer to resolving this dispute. 64.231.158.68 (talk) 12:14, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to ask a broader audience at WT:FOOTY. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 13:30, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
