Should this page exist?

[edit]

I'm really not sure. The fact that not one of these films is a sequel to another makes me object to it being called "The Punisher (film series)". I think we're probably alright with "the Punisher in other media" section/page. Planewalker Dave (talk) 10:58, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. Having removed 23K of the page by removing a useless chart, we're left with information seemingly duplicated form, and fully redundant to the three individual films. This article also makes no representation in the lede of the three being thoroughly unrelated to each other, except for sharing a main character. They form no cohesive arc, aren't sequels, requels, or remakes, but three distinct separate attempts to create a franchise. The article doesn't represent any novel information about the trio, with reviews or comparative critical assessment, nor commentary from Marvel about the historical representation on film of Castle thus far.I'd say redirect it to the most recent film, or a full delete. It's not worthy of a page on its own merits. ThuranX (talk) 06:08, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WRONG

[edit]

this is NOT a film series, the three films areDIFFERENT. this so call series is full of REEBOOTS, a fucking reboot means its a fucking DO OVER, not a fucking sequal75.230.47.167 (talk) 00:34, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chance

[edit]

The 1989 movie was sorely lacking the signature skull on franks chest as well as his odd reluctance to body armor (The Punisher has kevlar from neck to crotch). this aside the 2004 movie was meant as an adaptation of the marvel knights series and not the original Punisher. Punisher War Zone was a re_amp and a much needed Reboot to the series(movies) it displayed the Punisher in the way hes meant to be seen. hopefully this director and cast will be in future Punisher movies —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.205.34.64 (talk) 10:03, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cast Chart

[edit]

I've removed the cast chart. 23K of this page's size was in that one chart. There's no need for that chart. Each of the three actors portraying Castle is detailed within the relevant film's prose, as it should be. Each Film's article already provides a thorough cast list. The 'chart' is just a gigantic, over-coded cast list, and provides no comparative data. ThuranX (talk) 06:05, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coyote Ugly reference

[edit]

A Punisher comic book is a key plot device in Coyote Ugly. I'm not sure how to correctly reference that in the page, so I'll just leave this here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.155.65.222 (talk) 09:21, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

See also section.

[edit]

Why shouldn't it link to a similar subject exactly. Isn't that precisely what that section is for?*Treker (talk) 14:22, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

See also is only useful when the media is not big enough for a Template full of links and when it's connected to the character or the world/universe they live in. But the Spider-Man films have nothing to do with the Punisher in films at all. Hell, you might as well put a link to every comic book film there is if your going to put a link to Spider-Man films...108.82.14.171 (talk) 22:09, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No that's absolutely not the same. The Spider-Man article is exactly the same kind of article not just some random film.*Trekker (talk) 11:31, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Punisher in film

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Punisher in film's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 17:07, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cameo

[edit]

There's a 14 or 15 year old rumor that gets brought up once in a blue moon, that the Punisher made a cameo appearance in the Spider-Man 2 film, but the only thing that's based that on is that the guy somewhat looks like Thomas Jane (opinion) and is wearing all black... that's it. But now there saying it was his stunt double from the film, but it's never been proven from anyone, no "quotes" or statements, they claim it's from a Wizard Magazine and the audio commentary from Spider-Man 2, but after 14 or 15 years, no one has shown statments from anyone. Story wise it makes no sense, also, Sony didn't own the rights to use the character, they would have gotten sued by Lionsgate, there was no MCU at the time. I want see the statements from the filmmakers, Thomas Jane and I want to hear an audio recording from the commentary, is that too much to ask for????108.208.137.67 (talk) 04:03, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Very well. The director's commentary itself will be cited as a reference, in addition to the articles about the commentary. Those are irrefutable WP:RELIABLE SOURCES. 64.43.50.219 (talk) 14:04, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will copy and paste a reaction about this from the Talk page of Spiderman2.

":This would qualify as a somewhat extraordinary claim, so extraordinary evidence would be needed in order for it to be included. For what it's worth, I've searched for reliable online sources that spoke on the matter, but I couldn't find any. I've found, however, two statements, one in the IMDb trivia section on Spider-Man 2, and one in a WhatCulture article, both questionable sources, but even these two say the rumor is false. IMDb: Toward the end of the movie, it was rumored that The Punisher (2004) was noticeable, as that movie was based on a spin-off character from Spider-Man's comic book. This turned out to be false and is only someone who resembled Thomas Jane. This is purely coincidental. He was never intended by the makers to be the Punisher.[1] At first, WhatCulture seems to confirm the rumor: In the final scene of Spider-Man 2 when Mary Jane runs through New York in a wedding dress she draws the attention of a guy in a black trench coat. You'd be forgiven for thinking his obvious turn is a scene stealing attempt from an extra, but the truth is much more exciting; it's Punisher. And no, this isn't a crazy fan theory like my article last year on Deadshot in The Dark Knight Rises; the audio commentary reveals that is most certainly the serum-less super soldier who gives mob bosses nightmares. But the rumor is actually refuted later in the same paragraph: Produced about the same time as the 2004 adaptation of the character, the producers wanted Thomas Jane to make an appearance as Frank Castle, but due to Sony not having the rights his stunt double was used instead.[2] Let it be clear that neither of these sources can be used in the article. See now, that second reference does say the same thing. It doesn't refute anything, what it says is that they tried and failed to get Thomas Jane himself, failed, and so used his stunt double. It is like how Deadpool unofficially featured Bob, Agent of Hydra. Not saying anything when filming, and then confirming who the character is on the commentary when it is too late for anyone to change anything. Key sentence: "no, this isn't a crazy fan theory like my article last year on Deadshot in The Dark Knight Rises; the audio commentary reveals that is most certainly the serum-less super soldier who gives mob bosses nightmares." 64.43.50.219 (talk) 14:17, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Facu-el Millo: Can you please assist on this issue? I copied your reply from the Spiderman 2 talk page. The same issue is now on this page also.Lobo151 (talk) 14:23, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lobo151: It is a two-year-old incomplete discussion, and no-one here had ever listened to the commentary themselves before. 64.43.50.219 (talk) 14:28, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Your latest comment says "as that appears to have been the stunt double from The Punisher who popped up there" that means this name is not even known for sure? Actors have multiple stunt doubles, so based on what is this the stuntman that maybe appeared in Spiderman 2Lobo151 (talk) 14:40, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mistake, the commentary didn't mention his name, they were the only actor actually listed as Thomas Jane's stunt double rather than just "stunts" for The Punisher, so that would be WP:OR otherwise. Should we decide to put Spider-Man 2 back in the table, it should read "Uncredited extra" for them. 64.43.50.219 (talk) 14:47, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
