Talk:List of highest-grossing films throughout history
This is not a dupicate, it shows at each time what the top grossing film was.
title
[edit]You've got to admit that that's one klunky title for a page though. Jesterjester 03:28, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
true, change it
This is incorrect-The Sound of Music held the title from 1965-1972, not Gone with the Wind. Also, The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse didn't hold the title after The Birth of a Nation, and the highest grossing film from 1921-1938 is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. we will meet a 8 red fox in the useual place together we will be victorious
Problems in this article
[edit]It strikes me this article is both unnecessary and badly written. For a start, the information in it should surely be in List of highest-grossing films, as the title of this article is the same as far as meaning is concerned. Even if the article stays here, it badly needs correcting. The opening paragraph does not clearly explain the difference between this article and the list of highest-grossing films or what the table shows. The list is said to be 'Unadjusted', but does not explain what is unadjusted (I am assuming it is talking about inflation, but it could be anything). Even the list itself is inherently wrong! The 1921 film The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is recorded as having a lower gross than the 1915 film The Birth of a Nation meaning it should not be on the list at all, and the same is true of Gone with the Wind and The Godfather (1939 and 1972 respectively). If this article stays (and I don't think it should) it definitely needs work. The page isn't even linked from the main text of any other page, which shows how worthless it is! --Tim (talk), (contribs) 23:03, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
The Exorcist made 193,000,000 in before 2000. It made another 39,671,011 in the 2000 re-release
For a short time Star Wars regained the top spot From 14 Feb 1997 (during the Special Edition re-release it passed E.T.) until Titanic passed it on Mar 14 1998 with a gross that exceded $461m
To Tim: remember that films back in the silent era (and indeed until VHS even) would be in theaters for several years.
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
[edit]Why is this movie even on the list? It doesn't even beat its predecessor in real dollar value, and, adjusted for inflation, it only grossed about 89 million in 2006 dollars--hardly any sort of record.
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
[edit]According to Boxofficemojo.. Adjusted, It is the 104th highest grossing film.. which would actually be around 300,000,000 in 2006 dollars. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.192.201.108 (talk) 04:24, August 23, 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I merged this article with the List of highest-grossing films. I put it in its own section like "Record holding highest-grossing films over time" and literally copied and pasted in. I think this information is important, but I agree that the previous title was confusing and not easily distinguishable from the other article. Check out what I've done, and see if you like it.
