Japanese Army (disambiguation) → Japanese Army – Submitted on behalf of @Dekimasu: who declined the PROD of Japanese Army (disambiguation) with edit summary: "disputing prod: dab should be moved back to the base title; all actual links to that title currently intend the imperial topic, not the one that is currently the target of the redirect (which is not normally called "Japanese army")", but without further action. - Oppose. The primary topic redirect Japanese Army to Japan Ground Self-Defense Force is legitimate (and mentioned in the lead). The hatnote is sufficient for disambiguation, and the current WP:TWODABS disambiguation page has no utilty and can be deleted. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 17:54, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support. I think this might have worked better as an RfD discussion for "Japanese Army", but thanks for bringing it up here. From what I can tell, in more contexts both on and off Wikipedia the phrase "Japanese Army" is used to refer to the World War II-era institution. Over time, Imperial Japanese Army consistently receives more pageviews than Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. At least nominally the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force is not considered to be an army at all due to the contents of the postwar constitution, and while I do not dispute that it is an army in practice, the only cite on that article to defend calling it the "Japanese Army" is a link to an op-ed on Japan Forward, a site that has come under scrutiny recently here and elsewhere. And as noted above, the existing wikilinks to "Japanese Army" in running text all intend Imperial Japanese Army, unless those have been fixed at some point in the last week. - Support per nom. The imperial army is the best known. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:17, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
