Cover photo

I actually just came here to comment on the cover photo. Was there some thinking behind it? None of the reviews seem to mention it but it seems a very odd picture to use. She looks like a little boy and yes, extremely thin. Anyone know of any story behind it?--Tuzapicabit (talk) 07:01, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- The days before photoshop and shit. Just her natural body. This cover has always irked me but I think I finally know the reason behind the shock value. She is wearing male clothing for whatever reason. Her legs are just very muscular that's all and she has small arms with her bob haircut that makes her look kinda boyish, but this was popular at the time. She was 26 - I raised the question because I thought she looked younger in the photo. Some others from the same session here - https://jazzinphoto.wordpress.com/2013/10/20/diana-ross-diana-ross-1970/ - which don't look so extreme. I still think there must be some story behind its use.

The photo was to be both the anthesis and an anathema of what Diana Ross had previous been known for. It showed how ordinary she was in a realistic way and not the purported, unrealistic depiction of prior years. She was 26 in 1970; today she is 79. When you take off the theatrical makeup, costumes, wigs, jewelry and other such accoutrements, she is an old female who is aging...accordingly. She wasn't born Supreme and if she lives long enough, she might die gracefully and honorable but hardly Supreme. Look at Dave Clark, Betula Clark, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Mick agger and Barbara Streisand, they are all of the same generations and look it, too!
