Hurtgen Forest

[edit]

Well, this is a truly sanitised biography. Not a peep on Hurtgen. 2A00:23C4:503:5F01:880C:AF6D:852:8D1 (talk) 20:59, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see some peeps, with a link. Wdford (talk) 14:26, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. If you read "Panzer Killers", Hodges is portrayed as a "map" general - always way behind the fight in his HQ, and clueless about the best strategy for the situation, assigning real fighting subordinates to senseless objectives and likely prolonging the war. His misdirected focus on the Hurtgen, reliving his "glory days" of WWI, cost thousands of lives needlessly and accomplished nothing. That book suggests he was virtually worthless. Patton called him a moron. 98.201.100.50 (talk) 16:33, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Date of rank, Maj. Gen.

[edit]

I accessioned his 1945 biography[1] that shows he pinned Maj. Gen. on May 31, not May 1. All other dates agree with the other cited source. I can't find a link to the other cited source in the 1940s to crosscheck Hodges' date of rank (and yeah I checked p.2 on Google), so I'll WP:BOLD and make the date change.
