The 2011 chinese protests are no longer ongoing since 20 march 2011
[edit]and therefore am changing the status from "ongoing" to "ended 20 march 2011" seriosly nothing has happened since thenGermanlight (talk) 15:47, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Actually, since the end of May, they've begun to get worse, there have been major riots in major cities throught the country, and thus they're ongoing. Remember, there were a few minor protests in Syria in January and February, then there was a gap, then all hell broke looseEricl (talk) 17:55, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, that may be true in the broader sense of the article title. China is a pressure cooker which suffers from tens of thousands of civil disturbances of varying intensity each year, and most of these are protests against discrimination, official corruption and other injustices, none of which have anything to do with the intended subject of this article. Hopefully, the title can be changed in a few weeks. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 02:35, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Requested move

The result of the proposal was move to 2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests
.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:05, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
2011 Chinese protests → 2011 Chinese protests inspired by the Jasmine Revolution — because (1) there are other protests in China for 2011; (2) these aren't even the largest of 2011; (3) this only covers a subset of all protests in China of 2011; (4) these were inspired by the Arab Spring (then called Jasmine Revolution); 65.94.47.63 (talk) 14:47, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Speedy close:We talked about this at least five times a few months ago. -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs email 15:11, 11 June 2011 (UTC)- As far as I am aware, most agreed the title was ambiguous, but we would leave it until the dust has settled because there was no consensus at the time. I believe that it has now reached a time when we can discuss the new title. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 15:17, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- Comment: Whilst I agree with the underlying sentiment of the proposal, I find the proposed title a real mouthful. I have always favoured a more concise "2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests". --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 15:15, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- Move to "2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests" as per Ohconfucius. IQinn (talk) 21:26, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- Move to 2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests as per Ohconfucius. –CWenger (^ • @) 21:35, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- Comment: As long as it doesn't contain the word "revolution" (as in "Jasmine Revolution") I guess it's alright, as per the reasons I have given in the sections far above. -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs email 02:50, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Move to the title proposed by Ohconfucius, or just put the relevant month in the title instead, which is pretty standard on wp. Rennell435 (talk) 10:40, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Rename to "2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests". John Smith's (talk) 11:30, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Comment Looks like we have reached a consensus, I respect the decision of the majority. Arilang talk 06:42, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'd suggest giving it a few more days before we execute. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 07:58, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
Rename There was no protest, certainly no revolution, but plenty of Jasmine, Chinese Jasmine I mean, so whatever name it shall be, let "Jasmine" be there, as it is the main feature. Without "Jasmine" at the title, readers would have no idea what had been going on.Arilang talk 12:34, 12 June 2011 (UTC)- Move to 2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests. It is not perfect, but is a great improvement, and at this point that is all one could hope for.Homunculus (duihua) 12:45, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
- Move to 2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests, per the comment by Ohconfucius. —HXL's Roundtable and Record 02:37, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
Once this is moved, what do we do with the current name? Turn it into a list of major Chinese protests in 2011? 65.94.47.63 (talk) 08:53, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Usually, it will be redirected to the moved article – this is a default action. Otherwise, it could well become a DAB page, just like you suggested. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 12:25, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
notability
[edit]According to WP:PERSISTENCE "Notable events usually receive coverage beyond a relatively short news cycle. " It dosen't seems have been cited as a case study in multiple sources after the initial coverage has died down. --王小朋友 (talk) 09:45, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
