Avior Produits Intégrés Inc. is a Canadian aerospace manufacturer works in the design, manufacturing, and assembly of lightweight structures and complex mechanical assemblies for the aerospace industry.[1] The company, headquartered in Laval, Quebec, provides services like fabrication, engineering, and testing, for both metallic and composite components. Avior utilizes advanced technologies like robotics and automation to enhance its operations. [2]

History

Avior Produits Intégrés Inc. was founded in 2002 through a management buyout led by Stephen Kearns. The company is a partnership with its employees, the Fonds de solidarité FTQ (Quebec), and Hay Island (Connecticut). Initially a Tier IV supplier of sheet metal details,the company has expanded its operations through acquisitions and investments in technology, which have been documented in industry reports.[2] Avior's initial customer base included Bell Helicopter (now Bell Flight) and Bombardier, and it has since grown to include aircraft manufacturers like Airbus, Boeing, DeHavilland, Northrop Grumman, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Spirit AeroSystems.[3]

2021 Avior received $694,000 from the Government of Canada to help modernize and automate its manufacturing processes in Granby.[13]

Avior operates three business units across Quebec, totaling over 150,000 square feet of manufacturing space. These units specialize in various areas, including:

  • Laval, Quebec: Hybrid assembly, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and metal processing.
  • Granby, Quebec: Composites and composite tool fabrication.
  • Saint-Laurent, Quebec: Precision machining and mechanical assembly, including an Automation Center of Excellence (ACE) focused on robotics and augmented reality..
  • Pointe-Claire, Quebec: Precision CNC machining.

  1. Aircraft Structures: The company produces multiple types of aircraft structures, incorporating both composite and metal components, including fairings, doors, wings, and flight control surfaces.
  2. Hybrid Lightweight Structures: Avior designs and manufactures hybrid lightweight structures that utilize both metal and composite components.
  3. Mechanical Assemblies: Avior produces complex mechanical assemblies for aerospace applications.
  4. Fabrication: Avior has in-house fabrication capabilities for metallic and composite details, including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and composite manufacturing, in two of its facilities, Saint-Laurent and Pointe-Claire. The Saint-Laurent facility in Montreal features 5-axis and 3-axis automated robotic machining cells.[11]
  5. Technology Center: Avior's technology center houses its Automation Center of Excellence (ACE), which focuses on developing and implementing innovative technologies such as robotics and augmented reality to optimize manufacturing processes.[14] For its efforts in innovation and technological development, Avior Integrated Products has received the 2019 Industry Excellence Award for Small Business Innovation and Technology from the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC).[12]
  6. Testing Lab: Avior has an advanced aerospace testing lab[15] whose ultrasonic inspection (UT) capabilities and services support its composite fabrication production and those of its customers. The laboratory has the expertise to perform a wide range of materials testing, destructive testing and non-destructive testing (NDT). As proof of this expertise, Avior is Nadcap accredited for its non-destructive testing.
