Polish Socialism
Anyone available and willing to help me put together an article on socialism in Poland? I think a better title, however, would be Polish Socialism. Better captures the idea of socialism with a Polish inflexion (if you know a few bits about Polish nationalism/socialism, I think you'll agree).

Hoover Institution?
Why is the Hoover Institution a member of this project? It may make sense that the Hoover Institution Library and Archives is included, since it contains a lot of historical information about the Socialist and Communist movements, but I can't see any rationale for including the conservative Hoover Institution. Thanks. --MelanieN (talk) 03:07, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
The article "Socialism (Marxism)" is entirely based on an orthodox Marxist perspective of socialism
The Socialism (Marxism) article is entirely based upon an orthodox Marxist interpretation of socialism, it does not include revisionist Marxist perspective - specifically the revisionist interpretation of Marxism and Marxian socialism by Eduard Bernstein. I am concerned that the reason for this exclusive orthodox Marxist POV is either because of anti-revisionist Marxist and anti-Bernstein tendencies amongst those who developed that article; or because of ignorance of the revisionist Marxist perspective of Bernstein.--R-41 (talk) 00:45, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
More opportunities for editors to access free research databases!
The quest for getting Wikipedia editors the sources they need for articles related to socialism and other subjects is gaining momentum. Here's what's happening and what you can sign up for right now:
- Credo Reference provides full-text online versions of nearly 1200 published reference works from more than 70 publishers in every major subject, including general and subject dictionaries and encyclopedias. There are 125 full Credo 350 accounts available, with access even to 100 more references works than in Credo's original donation. All you need is a 1-year old account with 1000 edits. Sign up here.
- HighBeam Research has access to over 80 million articles from 6,500 publications including newspapers, magazines, academic journals, newswires, trade magazines and encyclopedias. Thousands of new articles are added daily, and archives date back over 25 years covering a wide range of subjects and industries. There are 250 full access 1-year accounts available. All you need is a 1-year old account with 1000 edits. Sign up here.
- Questia is an online research library for books and journal articles focusing on the humanities and social sciences. Questia has curated titles from over 300 trusted publishers including 77,000 full-text books and 4 million journal, magazine, and newspaper articles, as well as encyclopedia entries. There will soon be 1000 full access 1-year accounts available. All you need is a 1-year old account with 1000 edits. Sign up here.
In addition to these great partnerships, you might be interested in the next-generation idea to create a central Wikipedia Library where approved editors would have access to all participating resource donors. It's still in the preliminary stages, but if you like the idea, add your feedback to the Community Fellowship proposal to start developing the project. Drop by the talk page of User:Ocaasi, who is overseeing these projects, if you have any questions.--JayJasper (talk) 17:38, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Family Economics Wikipedia:USEP/Courses/Labor/Gender II: Economics of Gender (Gunseli Berik)
I have recently revise the family economics article. As a subject it has connections to the theories and ideas to Marx and Engels, it is also connected to their views on the structure of family under socialism. I have tried to include those subjects as much as possible, but I must admit I was only partially successful in finding contemporary Marxist literature. So I propose to include the subject to the wikiproject socialism. I also welcome any further revisions of the article by adding additional information on Marxist perspective of Family economicsKeremcantekin (talk) 20:52, 4 December 2012 (UTC) Kerem Cantekin (talk)

Problems at Socialism article: definition of the term socialism and the use of the term "socialism" by the Third Way faction of social democrats
Problems with the definition of socialism and the use of the term "socialism" by Third Way social democrats that essentially involves the complete acceptance of capitalism while viewing "socialism" as delivering social welfare and social justice, is causing difficulties at the article Socialism. This definition of socialism cannot be identified as completely autonomous from the conventional socialism, because the principal Third Way ideologist Anthony Giddens has claimed that the Third Way is an extension of the social democratic revisionism of Eduard Bernstein and Karl Kautsky who were both recognized socialists in the conventional use of the term.
I have opened up an RfC there, and I believe that this specific issue of the Third Way deserves the attention of WikiProject Socialism. But also efforts to create a balanced and NPOV description of socialism in the intro are desperately needed. This will be highly difficult given the various factions of people identifying as socialists who have often disagreed with each other. But something needs to be done.--R-41 (talk) 05:36, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- The fact is that there are simply no countries which call themselves socialist which adhere to the rejection of individual ownership of corporate equity, and there haven't been for decades. Trying to maintain a purist definition in the Socialism introduction is why that article has overwhelmingly negative feedback from people who can't understand it. My attempt at simplification to reflect actual reality was rejected but discussion is ongoing. Neo Poz (talk) 20:35, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
Adding "women's cooperatives in the developing world to the Cooperatives page
Hello all! I'm working on a class project to integrate the topic of women's cooperatives in the developing world into the existing Cooperatives page on Wikipedia. I am interested in adding it to the existing cooperatives page, as this will allow it to get the most traffic. My focus will be on the development of women's cooperatives, how they differ from the status quo, and how this trend has shifted over time. I was hoping to also highlight certain cooperatives that are doing well in specific countries, but wanted to integrate this instead of listing it out as a country-by-country list (which will never be fully exhausted). Since the Wikipedia Cooperatives Project falls within the Socialism Project, I wanted to get further views on my proposed expansion. I will draw sources from the International Labour Organization, the United Nations year of the Cooperative (2012), journals such as Gender and Development, as well as several books I have found on the topic. Any and all suggestions are welcome as I attempt to bring some attention to the importance and development of women's only cooperatives. Emmyloumanwill (talk) 06:14, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Need help at Law of value
Law of value needs some serious help. The article is composed mostly of original research, has trouble maintaining a neutral POV, and is way too long. We need some volunteers to help out with cleaning it up. I've gone through and tagged a lot of the original research, but the article is too overwhelming to work on alone. Also, we need some experts to come in, for help in highlighting trivial information that can be removed. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 19:43, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Updating and expanding article on Socialist Party USA
The article on the Socialist Party USA is fairly good article. It covers the basics of the history of the party, and it's presidential campaigns, but it explains very little of the party's platform and ideology. Obviously, this party is of very little importance due to it's size, and a hugely detailed description of its platform would be idiotic. However I am very concerned that to average American reader who is unfamiliar with socialism, the article doesn't much help. So I'm going to add some bare basics of the party's platform and where it stands on various issues.
Also, the "History" and "Founding" need to be fixed and merged together. The "History" section does not cover the party's history, rather it covers the development of the future party within the Socialist Party of America, so the title of the section is misleading. Furthermore, the section "Founding" covers all of the subsequent history of the party, not just on its creation. So I will merge the two into one section called "History" and divide it into subsections such as "Founding", and "1976-present" or something like that. Just basic improvements, cleaning up, and a slight amount of expansion. Also, I will likely create articles on their notable members, and attempt to expand the articles on members that already exist. If anyone would like to contribute to this project, help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all and have a great day!

Need help in clarifying which was the first democratically elected communist government
Another user had brought this up in the Kerala state article talk page. I've found some good sources (like this, and this) saying that the country San Marino had the first elected communist government in 1945 but at the same time, some others (like this one) say that the state of Kerala had the first in 1957. I'm convinced that the user is right and San Marino, not Kerala, was the first. I was planning to add this to all related articles, but thought I'll first ask other editor's views on this. Hope this is right and any replies will be much appreciated, Ugog Nizdast (talk) 20:06, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Well, apart from discussion what constitutes a truely democratic election, the problem is that the difference is that Kerala is not a sovereign state, which San Marino is. Communists had won other local or regional elections before Kerala 1957 (for example some regions in Italy directly after the war). The other issue is that in both the Kerala 1957 and San Marino cases the communists formed governments in coalition with other forces. It could be said that it was a 'communist-led' government, though. --Soman (talk) 11:44, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Criticisms of Marxism
The Criticisms of Marxism page needs a heavy make-over. Its confusing and disoriented. Because of the complexity of the subject and the vastness of work dedicated to the topic, every POV pusher drops by and a inserts a quote that they had read from a questionable secondary source or drops large quotes from primary sources. The article is a quotefarm as of now, if anyone has the time to take a look at it, offer suggestions, or do a heavy make over. Draft:Mike Jones (artist) is about the creator of a wide variety of banners, murals, stained glass and other commemorative material for the Trades Unions movement in the UK, and other socialist organisations and museums. Auto-assessment of article classes
Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.
If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. Proposed split of State-owned enterprise to list article
I've proposed splitting State-owned enterprise out into List of state-owned enterprises, as a significant bulk of the article simply lists SOEs by country. Communism is not socialism
When I try to add WikiProject Communism to talkpages, it says, WikiProject Socialism. They are not the same thing at all. Communism is a totalitarian ideology; socialism is a bourgeois political compromise. One might argue that any implementation of communism in the political realm leads to bourgeois socialism, but still--I feel the redirect is not helpful, especially because of the difference between politics and intellectualism. Is there a way to fix this--would anyone like to split the projects? Please ping me when you reply. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 05:54, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Popular pages report
We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Socialism/Archive 3/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Socialism.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Socialism, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.
Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Help with a draft?
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give some feedback on the article User:Jasonwujiaxi /Maoist Theory of National Struggle, which is currently in a student's userspace. One of my main concerns is that it's written in too much of an essay style, however I do want to make sure that this is a topic that could stand on its own apart from other Maoism related articles. Is anyone willing to give the student some feedback on the article's talk page? Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:25, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Maoist Theory of National Struggle
Would someone from this WikiProject mind assessing Maoist Theory of National Struggle? It's a newly created article moved directly to the mainspace by a student participating in Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/UCSD/HIGR_210_Socialism_in_China_(2017_Fall). Just for reference, the article has already been userfied once before, but maybe this time around it is OK for the mainspace. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:08, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject
Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.

Re-write of Socialist state
An editor is completely re-writing Socialist state... even the new first sentence changes the term's meaning. I want the guy to create a draft first so that others can make changes and comments before such a massive change, and I have stated as such on the talk page. He disagrees. I thought I'd bring this up here. Fyunck(click) (talk) 22:02, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Everyone, if you have any questions at all, please ask me or write a question on the article talk page. I promise you I'll heed you're advice.. However, this is clearly the superior version; it has close to 100 references (they are all third party sources), the other one had around 30 (and most of them were primary sources).. --TIAYN (talk) 22:05, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Related to the above, an editor has suggested that socialist state and communist state should be merged. As this is a rehash of an old discussion it would benefit from attention from interested editors who haven't participated before. If you would like to contribute, please see the discussion. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 11:37, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:55, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

RfC regrading Council of People's Commissars of the Soviet Union

New project page
Hello! I'm working on an updated page for WikiProject Socialism. You can check it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Socialism/sandbox. It's still work in progress, but any feedback about both content and form would be great. Note the following:
- The design uses the new UI prototype for wikiprojects developed by WikiProject X. You can see some other examples here: WikiProject Medicine, WikiProject Molecular Biology, more.
- There is, at least, three missing sections: auto-generated task list (example), discussions summary (example) and a new-style members page (example).
- Wikiproject resources (templates, userbox) are still missing from the new design.
- Also changed the red flag image to the newer one, which was already used in Portal:Socialism. Unless there is any objection, this could be changed in the project template too.
- We now have a section for article alerts: Wikipedia:WikiProject Socialism/Article alerts. This means that alerts will be delivered by a bot there, and not to this talk page. So you should watch the article alerts page too.
Best, --MarioGom (talk) 19:02, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- The new page is now ready to go live. A summary of changes:
- The introduction is now much shorter. Copied from WikiProject Medicine.
- The Participants page is deprecated in favor of the Members. This page is autogenerated. Anyone can join the project clicking on the blue Join WikiProject button on the right side.
- The old Tasks section is now completely gone, there are full alerts and resources sections. Both contain specific issues and are up to date.
- The old Announcements is replaced by Article alerts.
- There is a new Discussions section with a summary of recent discussions in any article related to the project.
- Guidelines and Templates are both summarized in the resources section.
- The new Statistics section includes tentative goals for article quality. These are based on WikiProject Video games.
- Recent changes and Wikipedia:WikiProject Socialism/Showcase (Recognized content) sections are still present.
- Related Project includes links to sister projects in other languages, as well as an auto-generated list of overlapping projects.

Importance assessment of ideologies and currents
Hello! I have been reviewing importance assessments on various topics and I noticed that consistency of importance assessment could be improved for ideologies and currents related to the project. I'd like to propose a refinement of the criteria and a reassessment according to it:
- Top: Socialism and wide currents of particular historic importance (e.g. Utopian socialism, Social democracy, Communism and Marxism, Libertarian socialism).
- High: Most notable variants, such as Left communism, Marxism–Leninism, Trotskyism, Maoism, Liberal socialism, Third Way, Arab socialism and Ba'athism or Juche.
- Mid: Less notable variants (e.g. Council communism, Libertarian Marxism) and variants that either refer to the set of policies of a specific Government or relevant only in a specific country and period of time (e.g. Stalinism, Titoism, Blairism, Deng Xiaoping Theory).
- Low Everything else.
Here's an outline of how this could be applied (omitting the first level, Socialism). Those that would be changed are in bold, with current importance grade on the left side and the new grade on the right side:
- Arab socialism High
- Ba'athism Top ⇊ High
- Bundism Top ⇊ High
- Communism / Marxism Top
- Eco-socialism High
- Left communism Top ⇊ High
- Council communism High ⇊ Mid
- Leninism High
- Maoism High
- Marxism–Leninism–Maoism High ⇊ Mid
- Marxism–Leninism High
- Stalinism Top ⇊ Mid
- Socialism with Chinese characteristics High
- Deng Xiaoping Theory Top ⇊ Mid
- Xi Jinping Thought Top ⇊ Mid
- Trotskyism Top ⇊ High
- Maoism High
- Left communism Top ⇊ High
- Juche Mid ⇈ High
- Libertarian socialism Top
- Libertarian Marxism Mid
- Social anarchism Mid
- Social democracy Top
- Third Way High
- Blairism High ⇊ Mid
- Liberal socialism Top ⇊ High
- Third Way High
- Utopian socialism Mid ⇈ Top
- Fourierism Mid
- Democratic socialism Top ⇊ High
For brevity, I just omitted lower importance articles such as Khrushchevism or Titoism. While Nikita Khrushchev or Josip Broz Tito articles are definitely high/top importance as biographies, the specific article on their political line probably isn't.
Any thoughts? Best, --MarioGom (talk) 20:25, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- Done for the listed articles. --MarioGom (talk) 17:15, 20 July 2019 (UTC)

New Barnstar
Hello, I've made a new Barnstar for this project. I didn't like the current one in use via The Workers' Barnstar since it's being shared with Communism, but I hope everyone likes the Socialist Barnstar. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 16:38, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you JudeccaXIII! I have added it to the resources section. I think it makes sense to have an alternative, non-communist, generic barnstar. Although I personally like the Workers' Barnstar ;-) --MarioGom (talk) 17:42, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- MarioGom, Glad you like it. I also made the Communist Barnstar. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 20:08, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Reassessment: Serve the People (Norway)
User:AndersLeo: I have reassessed the Serve the People (Norway) article as requested ([2]). Rated it as C-Class. However, the article relies excessively on sources closely associated with the subject (tjen-folket.no). See Wikipedia:Identifying and using independent sources. Best, --MarioGom (talk) 20:48, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
- User:MarioGom: Thanks for your feedback! It is difficult to include more varied sources when the citations refer to the official positions of the subject. There honestly aren't many relevant sources to cite when it comes to that... 19 of 39 citations are from Tjen Folket or SOS Rasisme official pages, and of those some are duplicates, meaning that fewer than 50% of the citations are from sources closely associated with the subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndersLeo (talk • contribs) 15:15, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

New list of redlinks
I think a new list of redlinks should be created with all the concepts that still do not exist in the English Wikipedia.

It might be hard, since Wikidata properties are not really good in the space of political theory. --MarioGom (talk) 08:07, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
Red Women in Red: September
Women in Red (WiR) is a wikiproject focused on reducing gender bias on Wikipedia by creating articles about notable women. During September will hold four month-long events: Law, Military history (World War II), writers and defunct countries. The Military history and defunct countries events might be of particular interest for members of WikiProject Socialism. The former includes socialist women who participated in World War II and resistance to Nazism, while the later includes special focus on the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, etc. I will be participating in all of them with an eye of the interest intersection between WiR and Socialism projects, and I invite other members to do the same. Best, --MarioGom (talk) 18:08, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- Women in Red is hosting a three-month contest to create new stubs and de-stub current stubs about women. In our redlinks section you can find a list of missing articles for communist women, as well as a reduced version with women likely to be the most notable. If you are interested in a list of missing articles for different socialist currents or socialism in general, feel free to request it. Best, --MarioGom (talk) 09:07, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

RE: Debate on creating a Chris Mullin disambiguation page (now it automatically leads to the basketball player)
Right now, the Chris Mullin page automatically leads to the basketball player - at the same time, there is a Chris Mullin (politician) - the one who led the fight to release the Birmingham Six and vote A Very British Coup (which was adapted to a TV series).
I've started a discussion on the talk page there, requesting to rename the basketball player page to Chris Mullin (basketball), and make the Chris Mullin page a disambiguation page with equal representation to both of them.
Arguments raised against my proposal:
- The basketball player has more views.
My main argument for the move:
- The basketball player gets most of his views from the US, while outside the US he's hardly known, and in Britain itself the politician-author Chris Mullin is much better known.
I invite you guys to take part in the discussion.
The link: Talk:Chris Mullin#Requested move 22 August_2020.

Kalaripayattu
Religious fanatics are taking ownership at Kalaripayattu and not allowing any edits deviating from their agenda. The worst part is it is pending-changes protected and they all are confirmed accounts who can make changes without scrutiny. None of them give proper explanation for reverting, and sometimes blatantly reverts multiple edits (edited with proper edit summary) without explanation. Two of them have COI as evident from their usernames (Kalari). Their main business is promoting their POV and highlighting Hinduism part, though Kalaripayattu do have rituals based on Hinduism, the art itself is not a "Hindu art", it just happened to have originated when only Hindu "religion" was prevalent in Kerala. It is a martial art practised by all religious communities, many of the masters are Muslims, the Christians even have a folk dance derived from Kalaripayattu. Some Hindu extremists are "making statements" by projecting Hinduism on an otherwise communally harmonious martial art. BTW, I am also a Hindu, but this is too much.
The first time my edit got reverted (see history here onward), I never thought it was religious agenda, but now it's becoming clearer, as User:Kalariwarrior changed "Indian mythology" to "Hindu mythology" (source says former), and User:Kalari Poothara's recent Hinduism promotion in lead, and as Outlander07 is now trying to re-insert Hinduism claims (not in the source) in lead which I had removed; he had also removed a sourced mention about a Hindu lower-caste community – Thiyya. There are multiple legends on the creator - Parashurama, Shiva, Agasthya; they want Parashurama, not only that, they don't want to attribute it as "legend" (I agree with [3]). I suspect Outlander07 and Kalariwarrior to be the same person, all three are incompetent in editing. The article requires serious cleanup for sourcing and NPOV. Should I report this activity to WP:ANI, or somewhere else, or what? Please help. 2409:4073:103:B264:4177:62E9:8313:1743 (talk) 08:10, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

- Hi User talk:2804:14D:5C59:8833:E5AF:9B7A:1B77:B9B4, I think the whole article is unnecessary. 'Left' is a very much as i understand it to wide encompassing a term to justify a list of 'for or against' quotes. Maybe it should be split into 'Communism', Anarchism' (these seem to exist), etc. And deleted? W1tchkr4ft 00 (talk) 16:27, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

University student editing a stub
Hi there, I am a university student editing the following stub for my final assignment Australian People for Health, Education and Development Abroad. WikiProject Communism is redirecting to WikiProject Socialism
Hello,
I would like to understand why WikiProject Communism is redirecting to WikiProject Socialism. Both ideologies have their respective Portals. There are significant differences between those two ideologies, both in history and practice. --WalterMccan (talk) 16:04, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
- Communism has its own portal (Portal:Communism), but since communism is simply one of the tendencies within the socialist movement (or, if understanding it as "communist society", a goal of socialism) there is no point in creating separate WikiProjects. BeŻet (talk) 16:45, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
Importance and Quality review for two articles.
Hi all, I've recently done a total rewrite of the stub article "Theory of imperialism" to fully reflect the diversity of opinion on this subject. This article has neither a quality nor an importance rating yet. I would appreciate advice on how to improve this article as it is my own area of academic research.
I've also recently rewritten the majority of the top-importance article on the "Second International." I think it is now of better quality than start quality, though I'm not an expert on the subject so I doubt it is higher than C or B status. Mirkyton (talk) 11:14, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

Left Communism's Relationship to Leninism
I propose to make an amendment to the section of Left Communism to fix its' accuracy error in which it states that all currents of Left Communism criticize Leninism or are not Leninist in nature. The third paragraph discusses Bordiga and the ICP which was thoroughly Leninist which adds to the confusion of Left Communism being entirely anti-Leninism.

Critique of political economy
Would a member of this WP care to review Critique of political economy and decide whether the quality and importance ratings for this Wikioproject (as given at talk:Critique of political economy) merit changing? I have just now reverted it to 'Mid' after the major contributing editor (who is fairly new) uprated it to 'High' – they may well be right but that judgement needs independent assessment.
Also, I suspect that it can come off 'Start class' but it still has significant sourcing and NPOV phrasing issues so I suspect it is no more than 'C'. Of course that could be improved with the help of some more contributors... --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 10:22, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Template:Socialism in the UK
Hi all,
It would be great to have some community input into this template for socialism in the UK. I have used the socialism in the United States template as a guide for what parties should be included. Template:Socialism in the UK
The US one takes a broad church view of socialism, which I have taken as what the UK one should also present including more centre-left to far-left parties. Including socialist, communisti, green parties, etc. It would be great to have further discussion on the scope of the UK one as another user editing it seems headstrong on what should/ should not be included.
Please do discuss on the page's talk page and edit as you see fit! Jamzze (talk) 15:14, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

Could you help to fix links to Committee for a Workers' International (disambiguation) shown in Disambig fix list for Committee for a Workers' International (disambiguation)? - @Rodw: I did not account for the number of disambiguations that would have to be remedied when I changed the redirect of Committee for a Workers' International from Committee for a Workers' International (1974) to Committee for a Workers' International (disambiguation). I reverted my change and that should get rid of the need to remedy most of these disambiguations. CentreLeftRight ✉ 19:31, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom
parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:21, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Just a note that this WikiProject uses standard quality assessments, so it should be no action required and an "opt-in". — Bilorv (talk) 06:28, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

Request for input on merge proposal
I have made a proposal that Marxism-Leninism-Maoism be merged into Maoism.
Currently, I've only received feedback from three other people, one pro merge, two against. Only one of those against the merge has given significant feedback and currently I think the discussion is at an impasse. This is so as neither of us have budged from our original positions and the person has stated that they no longer wish to restate their arguments. So, in the interest of not tagging them when they feel that they have said all that they can say, I hope someone here can help tip the scales either way.
The discussion page is here: Talk:Maoism#Merge proposal
My argument could be summarised as the following:
- Modern groups and individuals who refer to themselves as 'Maoists' tend to use the terms 'Mao Zedong Thought', 'Maoism' and 'Marxism-Leninism-Maoism' interchangeably. This is not limited to the west.
- The only sources that have been provided that describe a difference between 'Maoism' and 'Marxism-Leninism-Maoism' are quite old.
- What differences there are with modern Maoism and 'the thought of Mao Zedong' are minimal at best (imo) and (imo) these differences are vague and often border on sophistry.
- Currently, nearly everything covered by Marxism-Leninism-Maoism is covered in Maoism, and Maoism covers a greater range of content. I'd argue this is due to the two terms being largely interchangeable, not due to editors getting things wrong.
The argument against merging (obviously I'm biased here so please read the discussion yourself):
- Maoism and Marxism-Leninism-Maoism are different, the former meaning 'the thought of Mao Zedong' and the latter being an ideology developed after the death of Mao.
- Currently, the article on 'Maoism' is actually about 'Mao Zedong Thought' and the article on 'Marxism-Leninism-Maoism' is low quality but could be developed to include information which would differentiate it from 'Maoism'.

If interested, please add your username to sandbox/Housing and Tenant Rights, let us know about what your interests are and whether you'd prefer a regional task force, a world-wide wikiproject, or both. In a couple weeks we'll start creating them based on requests (5+ for a regional task force, 10+ for a wikiproject). Best regards, LoomCreek (talk) 17:21, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
