Welcome

[edit]

Have removed your changes to the article on antibiotic resistance. Not sure what was with the strange numbering of sections. Also introduced a number of other errors. We typically keep section headings sort and they do not contain links per WP:MOS. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 03:07, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi James, do you have concerns with the content changes, or is it just the number in the section titles which is problematic? John Vandenberg (chat) 23:47, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tox project

[edit]

Hi Wuerzele, and happy seventh day of Christmas!

I've tried to get back to The Toxicology Problem™, and I have a bit of a case study in hand: Benzaldehyde. I wonder whether you and User:Harej (and anyone else who knows more than I do about toxicology) would mind trying to improve the tox information/tox-related sourcing in that article? I think it's going to be a useful example, because it's common (sold in the grocery store + used for making plastics), occurs naturally and is made synthetically, isn't obviously poisonous, and isn't very heavily researched (unlike, say, a pharmaceutical drug or a pesticide). Generally, if I have two or three clear examples of what good editors really want, I'm pretty good at translating them into descriptions for guidelines, and this one looks like a way to address multiple issues.

WP:NODEADLINE, but please ping me if you can work on this, or if you want to talk about what/why you like or dislike something in that article. To get a good guideline, it'll be helpful for me to know what you would use for sources in that article and why those are the best ones for that article. Thorium

[edit]

Q/P etc. are defined in the diagram. The caption reads:

Westphalia

[edit]

Hey Wuerzele,

May I ask why you added misleading information to Westphalia and also added misleading information?

  • Westphalia in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia does not border on the Netherlands.
  • The sentence "It is one of the regions that were part of all succession of states of the German state ..." does now make no sense.
  • The information that you deleted in the history part about Westphalia is absolutely accurate.

I would also be thankful if you wouldn't devalue other person's contributions by describing them as "odd" and "piped" whatever that is supposed to mean.

I look forward to your reply. FMü 19:06, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FMü. Thanks for the comment. my responses to your bullets:
  1. Westphalia as depicted as part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia does border on the Netherlands as a simple gaze on the map ironically adjacent in the infobox shows. Or what
  2. The sentence "It is one of the regions that were part of all succession of states of the German state ..." does now make no sense ? i dont understand where the problem is, sorry, please tell me - or correct as you see fit.
  3. Information that I supposedly deleted in the history part: i dont know, whadduyoumean? I deleted no info, zippo, nada, nyshta. (in the future insert edit link facilitates communication) i think you mistook a layout change as deletion when you looked at teh revision history, right? if you read teh article though you should have seen that nothing disappeared.
  4. FYI piped is a wikiterm, see WP:piped link and no devaluation. And odd is odd and in my lingo not even pejorative, i dunnow about you, or whereabouts in the UK you live, man, but odd means irregular and is shorter than quoting the exact WP:MOS paragraph and page. forgive me!
so, as far as I am concerned, your, eh, may i say so, accusations ("added misleading information deleted accurate") plus the "devalue other person's contributions" were jumps to conclusions, not based on facts, IMO shrift and naught. -you may have a WP account longer than me, but I´ve been involved and care deeply about quality, just check my userpage, my contributions. hey, i of one, am no bad apple... !
Lastly, content-related discourse (as yours is, except for the accusations -:)) should be on the westphalia talkpage, so if there´s more, lets continue there ok?

oh and i knew you were an odd ball when you squeezed your comment in a weird, weird place on my talkpage....:)

Have a good one ! Ta-ra !--Wuerzele (talk) 07:39, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wuerzele,
This discussion is not about who is longer on Wikipedia. Also, please stop getting personal just because I put a comment into a place you do not like. I could also make conclusions about your personality because of the way you speak but I don't because Wikipedia isn't the place for this and it prevents a discussion from being constructive.
Also, you changed my question from “May I ask why you added misleading information to Westphalia and also deleted accurate info?” to “May I ask why you added misleading information to Westphalia and also added misleading information?” This makes my question sound ridiculous.
What I posted were questions and no accusations so please calm down. However, despite the length of your reply you failed to answer these. For a better understanding, I will give further explanations.
1. As pointed out before Westphalia within the state of North Rhine-Westphalia does only border on the other regions of North Rhine-Westphalia being the Northern Rhineland and Lippe. If you want to mention other territories that Westphalia borders on outside of North Rhine-Westphalia, you will have to delete the words in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. But if you do so, please don't only mention the Netherlands but all territories Westphalia borders on.
2. The sentence “It is one of the regions that were part of all succession of states of the German state …” does not make sense and your English language skills seem to be good enough for you to understand this. If you should not understand certain things please don't edit them.
3. Maybe this was an accident just like the incident concerning the change of my above-mentioned question but you deleted the following paragraph:
After World War II it was a part of the British occupation zone which merged with the American zone to become the Bizone in 1947 and again merged with the French zone to become the Trizone in 1948. The current Federal Republic of Germany was founded on these territories making Westphalia a part of West Germany. It is a part of united Germany since 1990.
The information in my opinion is absolutely accurate so please let me know if you think otherwise.
4. I did not know that 'piped' is a Wikipedia term as I don't communicate in these terms in everyday life so sorry for that.

I decided to give my reply on your talk page. That is because your reply has given me the impression that this discussion can easily get personal. This will be the last personal message of me you will receive on this page as I don't have the time and interest in leading lengthy discussions about relatively minor incidents like this. You will find any future comments about Westphalia on its talk page, should this be necessary.

Because of the reasons I just gave you, I reverted Westphalia. Of course you are still welcome to make changes to the article like you are anywhere else on Wikipedia. Please just make sure to not do this in a disruptive manner. FMü 14:02, 1 August 2018

Deletion discussion about Austrian Speleological Association

[edit]

Hello, Wuerzele,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Austrian Speleological Association should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Austrian Speleological Association .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Rosguilltalk 06:45, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is very ill-mannered to slap a template like this on an experienced user¨s page. If you had checked anything about me you´d known I am not new to the process. Or maybe you do know me and have an unstated agenda?
I have no time to edit at the moment, was just looking something up, but I feel strongly that the article has a right to remain, just like all other articles on speleological associations have an unchallenged presence.--Wuerzele (talk) 07:27, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Wuerzele: I apologize for any offense. The New Page Patroller plugins I was using apparently add these templates automatically; I will be more judicious in the future. You are correct about the precedent and I will withdraw the deletion proposal. signed, Rosguilltalk 07:37, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Apology accepted, but it is not the plug in´s fault. You were careless.
I am the first to admit that Austrian Speleological Association can be improved. As you stated above: you are welcome to improve it, but you didnt. This is apparently not your objective, creating good, publicly accessible knowledge.
It appears your objective is to nuke articles which get in your crosshairs for some reason. It eludes me, how one can be so critical and destructive, even boasting a section "Page Kill Count" on ones user page. But if one does, one has to carefully examine the editor(s) the nature of their editing etc. i.e. the context. Especially if one hasnt been on WP long, (6 mths, 200o edits), especially if of one has never created new articles, one has to be careful. You could have checked my background, my edits and what others have said. It seems to me you didnt do that --Wuerzele (talk) 08:14, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Financial markets content project

[edit]

Hello,

My name is Tijana and I am a team leader of Wikinvesting.com project. Along with five of my colleagues and friends who are investment and trading enthusiasts, I have started the Wikinvesting which is based on MediaWiki platform.

Wikinvesting is a non-profit, game-changing movement which aims to round up all those individuals who believe that unbiased financial market information and knowledge should be extensively available to everyone. And this is also how I got to you :) Namely, I was searching for information I needed on financial markets and I have noticed that there isn’t a lot of "useful" information available on Wikipedia (to my surprise). In addition to that, the information available through sites such as Investopedia or Investing is tightly controlled by the business owners and hence easily manipulated. Simply, traders like me could not trust such sources in planning the investment and trading strategy...

So, what we want to create is a base where active or aspiring traders, content writers, investors, and generally financial enthusiasts will share their knowledge and experience, discuss investment opportunities, analyze news etc., all for the purpose of wikinvesting becoming the biggest financial knowledge “open source” base. I am not sure if you are familiar with the recent case of GameStop where gaming enthusiasts gather around the GameStop via reddit forum and prevented the hedge funds from sinking it down. They were basically our inspiration to starting this project.

I would love to share more information about this project with you and also discuss future potential opportunities, hence if you are interested, please let me know so we can continue this on our slack channel.

Cheers,

Subterranean living containers

[edit]

In this edit at Colonia Dignidad you added the following:

Schäfer finally staged a farewell ceremony and disappeared in subterranean living containers. In July 1997 2 boys fled to the German embassy, one of them Tobias Müller was flown out to Germany.

First of all, there is no citation for this; where did you get this information? Secondly, what are "subterranean living containers"? This is a complete mystery to me. Could this have been a translation from another language, which might've said something like, "...and disappeared underground" in the original language, and then underground got translated as subterranean living containers? Whatever the case, can you add a citation? Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 20:28, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mathglot, everything that I added to the article relies on the ARD documentary I referenced. I will add it to the quoted sentence, as it is indeed missing there. Since its been so long I do not remember the original German term used for "subterranean living containers", but I wouldnt be surprised if the new Netflix series mentions it. Yes, Schäfer literally lived underground.--Wuerzele (talk) 19:32, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Wuerzele:, Thank you for your comment. Just to be clear, I raised this originally as a question of proper English, not as a challenge to the reliability of the source(s). If I recall correctly, the torture chambers were underground, and the word subterranean may have been used in your ARD documentary to describe them; for example, they might've said subterranean torture chambers. However, the term subterranean living containers, although grammatically correct, sounds very awkward in English, and just doesn't sound right to this native speaker.
If the ARD documentary was in German, then this term obviously resulted from a less than optimal translation to an English phrase. If it occurred in an Netflix documentary in English, then it is the result of incompetent translators at Netflix, and we should go back to the original German, and use that as the source, and *not* the English version. Wikipedia's WP:Verifiability policy on non-English sources says: "English-language sources are preferred over non-English ones when they're available and of equal quality and relevance." If the English documentary uses the term subterranean living containers, then it is of inferior quality, and the German original should be used instead, along with a proper translation (which can, and should be included in the {{cite book}} or {{cite AV media}} citation, using parameters |quote=Original German quotation |quote-page=time value |trans-quote=English version}}. Note that there isn't (yet) a param alias |quote-time= so you'll have to use |quote-page= instead, to add the time-point in the video or program; but I'll request an upgrade to the citation template, and it may be available soon. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 20:22, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Ann McGuiness

[edit]

Hello, Wuerzele, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username IndyNotes, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Ann McGuiness, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ann McGuiness.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|IndyNotes}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

There is no NYT obituary listed at the time of review, as you suggest--merely an obituary from the funeral home and The Lancet. Uncited quote

[edit]

Information icon Please do not add or change content without citing a reliable source. Specifically, at Suisse secrets in revision 1075469407, you added:

Reuters wrote, "stability and unimpeachable competence seem to be lacking at Credit Suisse".

I checked the article referenced in the same paragraph,[1] but didn't see that quote. I also checked an archived version from two days after your edit to be sure.[2]

For reference, the guidelines are at Wikipedia:Citing sources. Thank you.

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. Hi! I noticed you recently made some changes to G42 (company) and I wondered if you had seen the discussion on the Talk page? The answering editor closed it asking for other editors' input, but there hasn't been any engagement yet so I thought I'd reach out.

The request went through rather a lot of formatting changes but I believe the easiest to read and assess is the 27 October version (under extended content).

If you could take a look at any of the points within this request that would be really appreciated.

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Cleveland Abbe into Time zone. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Also, when copying, please be sure to add the cited source books, so as not to break the Harvard citations. Thanks. — Diannaa (talk) 14:47, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

In general, you may be able to include certain photographs of graffiti under our guide for use of non-free materials, but under heavy restrictions (and hosted on Wikipedia rather than on Wikimedia Commons.) -- Nat Gertler (talk) 18:31, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

November 2024

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Public domain. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. You continue to add material not related to the public domain to the article, and continue to refuse to engage in Talk. Please stop. Avian influenza

[edit]

Hi there, you have made an edit to Avian influenza which is incorrect. There has been transmission of H5N1 influenza from cows to humans, it is true. However, since the virus had first infected cows, it could be called "Bovine influenza". The edit would be fine to place on the H5N1 page.

In a sense, all influenza is avian in origin. Humans have caught influenza on occasion from cows, pigs, chickens, dogs, and probably some other species as well. But the natural reservoir of the 100+ subtypes is wild birds.

I haven't reverted your edit yet but maybe you would like to?
