Hinduism in Assam moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Hinduism in Assam, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Liz Read! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Assam, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Assamese. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Edit war

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Proposed states and union territories of India. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.Gladamas (talk · contribs) 01:21, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Partition of India into Islam in India. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. There is also a practical reason - in your edit you copied a named reference, but the definition was in the page you copied from and needed to be copied into the page you pasted the information into for the citation to work correctly. I have fixed this. -- Toddy1 (talk) 22:38, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Misrepresenting obsolete data as current

[edit]

Thank you for your interest in improving the article Bangladesh. However, the article by Nurul Alam and Barkat-E-Khuda that you cited does not contain data from 2021. It was published in January 2011, before the 2011 census was conducted, and uses data from 2001 to 2008. The source you replaced was published in 2015, and uses the 2011 census data. Don't replace a more current reliable source with an older one containing obsolete data. Another article you cited is an opinion piece in a newspaper, which is not a reliable source for facts, only for the opinion of the author. Your recent edit(s) to the page have been reverted for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. --Worldbruce (talk) 17:45, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contributing to the article Jaya Ahsan. However, please do not use unreliable sources such websites and publications with a poor reputation for checking the facts or with no editorial oversight, or websites that rely heavily on gossip, rumors, and personal opinions, as one of Wikipedia's core policies is that contributions must be verifiable through reliable sources, preferably using inline citations. Sourcing requirements are particularly strict for biographies of living persons. If you require further assistance, please look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia, or ask at the Teahouse. Thank you. Are those sources which you have mentioned not reliable? Pitush Puttar (talk) 05:35, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Almost all websites, except for those published by traditional publishers (such as The Daily Star, Dhaka Tribune, governmental organizations, etc.), are self-published, and therefore may not be used as sources for biographies of a living person. Websites celebritycontactdetails.com, instantstories.com, and thepersonage.com have no reputation for accuracy or fact checking, and are self-published. The last is also circular, since it says it gets data from Wikipedia. For more information, see note #9 at the end of Wikipedia:Verifiability. --Worldbruce (talk) 01:33, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit reversion

[edit]

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 13:04, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently been editing India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, which has been designated a contentious topic. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Hi, it is regarding this edit. I don't see the number "553,604" in the source [1] you added. Can you explain why? or I'm missing something. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:37, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the first page of reference itself - Delhi, the brash, bustling Indian capital of today, was, in effect, born in 1947. In the wake of India’s hellish Partition, thousands of Muslims fled, while Hindu and Sikh refugees poured in. Delhi took in nearly half a million refugees (that means a total figure of - 500,000 numerically) from Pakistan in those heady but brutal months before and after August, 1947. Large parts of today’s Delhi grew out of the refugee camps that sprung up along its limits 69 years ago. Pitush Puttar (talk) 17:32, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I see the "half million", but the extra "53,604", where it is written? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:04, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Grabup. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Dhruv Rathee, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Simply living in Germany with Indian citizenship does not make someone a German-Indian. GrabUp - Talk 08:18, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is clearly mentioned in the infobox that his location is Berlin, Germany. Adding ‘German’ as his nationality is incorrect. GrabUp - Talk 08:21, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, and thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, and in particular for adding references! However, adding a bare URL is not ideal, and exposes the reference to link rot. It is preferable to use proper citation templates when citing sources, including details such as title, author, date, and any other information necessary for a bibliographic citation. Here's an example of a full citation using the {{cite web}} template to cite a web page:

Lorem ipsum<ref>{{cite web |title=Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac |publisher=Canon Inc |work=Ask a Question |date=2022 |url=https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART174839 |access-date=2022-04-02}}</ref> dolor sit amet.

which displays inline in the running text of the article as:

Lorem ipsum[1] dolor sit amet.

and displays under References as:

1. ^ Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac". Ask a Question. Canon Inc. 2022. Retrieved 2022-04-02.

If you've already added one or more bare URLs to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations; try the reFill tool, which can resolve some bare references semi-automatically. Once again, thanks for adding references to articles. Left guide (talk) 05:49, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Dr. Neha Mehta, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Hi @Pitush Puttar Thank you for your contribution! Before publishing, please ensure that all content in Wikipedia articles is written from a neutral point of view. It is essential to attribute all material to reliable, published sources. You may consider rewriting the article, adding more reliable news sources, and then submitting it for review again. Happy editing! Dcotos (talk) 17:03, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Pitush Puttar Please note that if you do not improve the draft within six months, it may be deleted in accordance with guidelines. Dcotos (talk) 17:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know that. But is there any way to delete it now ? Pitush Puttar (talk) 04:22, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There totally is a way to delete pages when you are the primary author of the content, simply add {{db-author}} to the page. In this case I've gone ahead and deleted it, not sure why @Dcotos: did not explain this when you asked. Kind of looks like they are posting canned replies instead of actually responding in their own words. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 00:23, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

It's odd to me that it seems like you used to know to do this and have stopped doing so for some reason. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 23:58, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
