COTF

[edit]

Hey... wow time really does fly when you're not having fun... I've got loads of work that's piling up, including my undergrad research project. I'll pick one soon, don't worry. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 03:28, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ROUND 8 WP:UNI/COTF

[edit]
The current University Collaborations of the Fortnight are:
Editor Nominated Topic Kennesaw State University
B-Class Improvement Drive Columbia University
Start/Stub Improvement Drive Chulalongkorn University

Every fortnight three higher education-related topics, stubs, or red linked articles are chosen for you to improve. Be bold!
This COTF is organized by Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities. (Nominate future collaborations or see past collaborations.)
This WP:UNI/COTF is effective: Mar 28 2008 ~ Apr 10 2008.

OK... so Columbia's a B-class article looking at FA nomination. Let's see if we can push it through FAN! (And good luck to anyone who speaks Thai and can translate the Thai version of Chulalongkorn University article into English) See you all 5 days before tax day (for those of us who are US taxpayers)! - Jameson L. Why list this article for deletion but not the others like it such as the one from your university or at GA Tech? --Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 13:15, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other crap exists, and I can't find all of them to delete when I delete one. Also, all articles are not the same, as some might lack notability while others do not. If you want to nominate other articles for deletion that you think fail the notability guideline, feel free. Hope this helps.—Noetic Sage 14:13, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am good. I try not to be a deletionist. --Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 14:22, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

University AFDs

[edit]

Hello. It seems some of the university-related AFDs are having trouble gaining enough discussion to form a consensus. I thought you might want to voice your opinion on these AFDs: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Student Action, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Indiana University Student Association, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Associated Students of the University of Hawaii. Good B-School Articles

[edit]

I noticed that you rated the UIUC College of Business page with a B. I appreciate your input and agree with your assessment. Can you point me to a good B-School article? I want to raise the bar.H.al-shawaf (talk) 17:48, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's an entire list of B-class University articles, but I think a particularly good one is Harvard University. If you want help on what to do to improve your article, take a look at WP:UNI's article guidelines or what it takes to be a Good Article.—Noetic Sage 20:51, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was aware of that category. However, I was more interested in ones rated higher than a "B". I did find the Tuck School of Business, which has featured status. I was also confused as to why Harvard was rated a "B". It seems like it deserves a higher rating.H.al-shawaf (talk) 00:35, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To get higher than a B-class rating, an article has to pass Good Article status. It must be independently reviewed. Check out the WikiProject Universities project, specifically the Assessment department to get some more insight as to how articles are rated and which are good. We also have a list of accomplishments there.—Noetic Sage 01:27, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How does this sound for WP:OUTCOMES?

"The notability of student unions may vary between different counties and different universities. A case-by-case demonstration of notability for each student union should be the prime determining factor in each AFD"

A tag has been placed on International Association of Torch Clubs requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Jimmy Webb - POV tag

[edit]

If you add a POV tag to an article, you are supposed to go to the talk page of that article and say "why" you think that it is POV, so 1) people can discuss it and 2) fix it. You added a tag to the Jimmy Webb article, but did not go to the talk page and say why. Thanks. 4.240.78.152 (talk) 20:00, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A new round of Collaboration of the Month is about to begin!

[edit]
The current University Collaborations of the Month is
University of California, Berkeley

Every month a B-Class higher education-related topic is chosen for you to improve. Be bold!
This COTM is organized by Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities. (Nominate future collaborations or see past collaborations.)
This WP:UNI/COTM is effective: Dec 01 2008 ~ Dec 31 2008.
Pick your next WikiProject Universities COTM Candidate!

Yes, it's that time! A new article has been chosen our COTM next month.

Here's something I want to try, start treating it as a peer review. Start by skimming through the article, making sure the article fits our article guidelines. Then review for content: any copyvio, notability issues, reference listings, following the Manual of Style. Again, let's make sure we stick to the objectives listed on WP:UNI/COTM. Feel free to use the talk page of the article or COTM page to reflect or express opinions on how to make this program even better. Feel free to utilize #wikipedia-en-robotics connect if you wish, that channel doesn't get used enough and I'm usually there if I'm near a computer.

And here's something even more radical. See if you can attract authors currently maintaining the different COTM articles to join our WikiProject and better yet, our COTM project. I found when I started this program, jumping ships and editing other universities' articles was a big leap, but it's been very fun so far. I'd like to see more people actively participating.

Let's start off the new COTM program the right way. I want to see those articles in GA and FA soon. Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving holiday and enjoy those Black Friday deals. - Jameson L. Tai talkguestbookcontribs 09:13, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The info is not right. You cannot find the references for something that is not right. I don't know who entered the text but the one wo entered the text is responsible for the references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 3a95a8i9 (talkcontribs) 15:33, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Now it looks much better. Thanks to your efforts on finding references. You can enter a huge text when you can provide most of the references, when you cannot for some of them , I believe that is fine. But when you enter a text which has citations needed everywhere, it does not look good in my judgement. I think what you did know is quite appropriate and looks much better. Again thank you for working on the references. Hope this explanation helps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 3a95a8i9 (talkcontribs) 18:24, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of largest universities by enrollment - necessity (or not) of 'world's'

[edit]

Thanks for looking in on this page; I agree that the new title is clearer and better reflects Wikipedia's standards. But I do wonder if the removal of 'world's' is a good thing. A quick look at buildings and cities seems to indicate the presence of world, viz: List of tallest buildings and structures in the world, World's largest cities, World's largest urban agglomerations, list of largest buildings in the world. Are you open/happy to putting world back in there, somewhere? Thanks for your thoughts! Natebailey (talk) 09:43, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure if you want to put it back in there I don't really care. It seems a little redundant, but if you added it I would add it to the end: "List of largest universities by enrollment in the world". I just don't know what that includes that the first title does not.—Noetic Sage 16:35, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Noeticsage, you reverted my unsourced addition of Ben Zinn to this page - I have since added him back, with an appropiate reference - but shouldn't you, in fairness, remove ALL alumni who don't have a reference? Regards, GiantSnowman 00:47, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

not if documentation is available . One should give the reference that is used in the Wikipedia article about them, usually their official cv or the like. DGG (talk) 23:55, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You previously commented at WikiProject Colleges & Universities about the notability of college/university residences and other campus buildings. GA Sweeps invitation

[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Noeticsage! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Orphaned non-free image File:Logosju.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Logosju.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Interview

[edit]

Hi Noeticsage, I am a Wikipedian and researcher from Carnegie Mellon University, working with Professors Robert E. Kraut and Aniket Kittur. We’ve published many scholarly papers on Wikipedia and are partnering with the Wikimedia Foundation on several new projects.

I have been analyzing collaboration in Wikipedia, especially Collaborations of the Week/Month. My analysis of seven years of archival Wikipedia data shows that Collaborations of the Week/Month substantially increase the amount and nature of project members’ contributions, with long lasting effects. We would like to talk to Wikipedians to better understand the processes that that produce this behavior change.

We’ve identified you as a particularly good candidate to speak with because of your involvement with the WikiProject Universities' Collaborations, which is one of those we’ve been investigating. It would really help us if you would be willing to have a short talk with us, less than 30 minutes of your time. We can talk via skype or instant messenger or other means if you’d prefer. Do you have time at any point during this week to chat? If so, please send an email to haiyiz@cs.cmu.edu or drop a line on my talk page.

Thanks!

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on University of Notre Dame residence halls requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, society, or group that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. 155blue (talk) 06:40, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
