1997 New Yorker Article

Hi, not particularly familiar with how talk pages work, so sorry if I'm doing this wrong. Just wanted to share a great source for more information that can be used in this article. It's a 7 July 1997 New Yorker article called "A Reporter at Large: THE TAKEDOWN OF TUPAC" by Connie Bruck. With a subscription, it can be accessed on the New Yorker's website: http://www.newyorker.com/archive/1997/07/07/1997_07_07_046_TNY_CARDS_000378550. For those without a subscription, a copy of the article appears to currently be available here: http://www.donmega.com/2pac/the-takedown-of-2pac.php.

It has info on the origin of Shakur as his last name (further elucidating how his name appears to have been changed from Lesane Parish Crooks), and just tons of details about events that the Wikipedia article currently seems have a tough time depicting due to lack of good sources. Some of the info can even be used to improve other articles, such as Afeni Shakur, Suge Knight, and maybe others.

I'm not a very prolific editor and didn't want to undertake alone adding info from this source into the article. It's a source of moderate length and I'm hoping by posting it here on the talk page, a community of editors will become aware of it and be able to use all the info in it to strengthen the article.

Hello, for his personal life he was engaged to Quincy Jones's daughter Kidada Jones at the time of this death.

Hello,

I've been coming across some information on various sites on the net and also on YouTube that Tupak was engaged to Kidada Jones, Quincy Jones' daughter at the time of his death, and this information is not contained in his personal life. One video I saw, Kidada Jones was quoted as saying that Tupac was "the love of her life" and "she didn't want to say good-bye". She was also quoted as saying she felt like she wanted to die upon hearing of his death and apparently she was by his side when he passed away. Pictures of the couple looked like they were very much in love.

If someone could add information to this effect about him being engaged to Quincy Jones' daughter at the time of his death and the nature of their relationship, under his personal life, that would be great thanks! I don't know how to add it - sorry!

(Joanna jo123 (talk) 16:18, 16 June 2013 (UTC)).

To add the information, a reliable source which supports any added content would need to be provided. See WP:RS. No problem if you don't know how to add content to the article, just give some link(s) to reliable source(s), and if they are suitable, and support this as notable content to include, the content can be added for you by another editor. Birth name/name

I do not know how to respond to the users who have replied to me above. I am grateful that the name has now been removed however his birth name should be "Lesane Parish Crooks". His mother then changed his name around when Lesane was around a year old to "Tupac Amaru Shakur" (after an important, historic soldier of some sort).

Can we not add his birth name back and name it as "Lesane Parish Crooks" ?

Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. The consensus that resulted from your previous edit request was to remove the birth name from the infobox. If you have additional sources or comments that will change some peoples' minds in this discussion then feel free to offer them, but without a new consensus I can't grant your request. --ElHef (Meep?) 00:25, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Lesane Parish Crooks was the name Tupac was born with, it was changed a year later after the last Inca monarch Túpac Amaru. I believe their should be some form of referencing to this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.199.95.114 (talk) 00:54, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

There is. The article currently says:
Please read the discussion above for the reasons we removed the name from the infobox "Birth name" field. We do, however, cover everything you mention above, except the use of the term 'Birth name' since we have been unable to find a suitable source for that being correct. (you got the wrong Tupac Amaru, I think - but I made the same mistake when I first looked at that...) Begoontalk 01:25, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

In reference to his name Tupac Amaru

In the section "Early life..." please note that Tupac Amaru was not a "Peruvian", because when Tupac Amaru lived "Peru" did not exist yet as an independent country.

It would be better to say "named after Tupac Amaru, a native South American of the Andes who led a revolution against Spanish Colonialism"

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.244.12.217 (talk) 21:34, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Done (but I used Viceroyalty of Peru - per our article: Túpac Amaru II) - Thank you. Begoontalk 03:54, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. I do not think to mention "Viceroyalty of Peru" is either helpful or relevant for Shakur's article, but it is fine. It would also be good to mention that Tupac means "brilliant, resplendent" in both Aymara and Quechua languages, both Andean languages. Amaru means snake in Quechua. This info is even available in the Tupac Katari Wikipedia article. Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.244.5.71 (talk) 22:04, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

You make a fair point about "Viceroyalty of Peru" being a little obscure, and it doesn't correspond to modern Peru, so I've altered the text slightly, a bit closer to your original suggestion: "He was named after Túpac Amaru, an 18th century South American revolutionary who led an indigenous uprising against Spanish rule, and was subsequently executed." How does that look?
I can't think of a way to introduce the various meanings for the names which you mention without the passage seeming somewhat clumsy and over-detailed - perhaps you had some wording in mind which will work? Begoontalk 01:53, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Can someone remove the images of East Harlem and Bellevue Hospital from the article? We don't need them in a biographical article just because Shakur was born and raised in the former and hospitalized in the latter. 24.146.209.199 (talk) 17:27, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Shakespeare

Is it worth noting that Shakur describing Macbeth as "...a tale about this king's wife who convinces a happy man to chase after her and kill her husband so he can take over the country... the king's wife just screws this guy's whole life up for nothing…” pretty much proves he skimmed that text, at best?41.160.168.182 (talk) 18:45, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Poetic Influences?

Is there anything to suggest that the list of poets that apparently influenced him is true? I've seen that it has been needed to be cited for a long while. There seems to be no evidence of this in his biography or in any of his documentaries. Seems like someone has just added this as a sort of bogus filler. The sexual assault section contains the following sentence, without citation:

"In the ensuing trial, Shakur was found innocent of seven counts of sodomy and other charges, however he was found guilty of sexual abuse for the "unwanted touching of the buttocks."

I proposed it be replaced with the following sentence:

"In the ensuing trial, Shakur was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse, but acquitted of weapons and sodomy charges."

The book itself contains no source for this allegation and is a self-published work (Lulu) so simply represents the author's opinion. The defense attorney at the time acknowledged that the bullet came from Shakur's gun. I am providing appropriate citation from the local paper and amending accordingly. R.I.P. Qa'id Walker Teal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrwhoohoo (talkcontribs) 14:46, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

I have also removed the sentence suggesting that Shakur was 'haunted' by the incident, since it is unsourced. I have also removed the assertion that "The Good Die Young" and "Nothing to Die for" were dedicated to 6 year-old Qa'id Walker Teal R.I.P. "The Good Die Young" is dedicated to the victims of the Columbine massacre. Since the supposed 'link' is broken, I have also removed the first half of the previous sentence. The resulting paragraph simply asserts known facts, from reputable sources, instead of reading like an argument from a defense attorney. Mrwhoohoo (talk) 15:17, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

There Needs to Be Concensus On The Fact That It Was Reported That a living person is alleged to Admitted To Ordering the 1994 Assault Against Shakur

So far I have found no criticism from any reliable resource on the claim Phillips made. Despite his controversial past, the claim has not been debunked and was further enhanced two weeks later by a Huffington Post article. Henchman was under trial at the time for drug trafficking and testimony is recorded by court reporters, so if there is a source acknowledging he did not testify this, please report it. Wikipedia is rapidly losing editors because of disagreements like this and in order to reverse the flow, we need to cooperate.JoetheMoe25 (talk) 22:04, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Not gonna happen. The person "reporting" is the same person who had to apologize and retract an earlier allegation connecting the two people and he blames the incident on ruining his career. He is NEVER going to be a reliable source on this issue. In addition his story is in a blog. That is not appropriate sourcing for a BLP. And further in addition, the accusations are based on third hand reports of what someone told the reporter that he heard someone else say. That kind of hearsay in and of itself makes the claims unacceptable. Together they are a complete and utter NO FUCKING WAY. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 22:09, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid that's not relevant. There needs to be consensus. The fact that the Huffington Post repeated with extra detail is a valid justification.JoetheMoe25 (talk) 22:45, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

If you think that is not relevant, you apparently have not read our WP:RS guidelines, particularly Wikipedia:Identifying_reliable_sources#Definition_of_a_source where this fails all three aspects. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 16:34, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Hmm... Huffington Post is known to not be reliable, however, as far as sources go, it a three part definition, the work, the writer, the publisher. The work is in a blog, and blogs aren't known to be the most reliable source on the face of the eart, the author is an investigative reporter for the LA Times, that makes him reliable. The publisher of the blog is the Village Voice with is also reliable. By our definition, that would make this reliable (not the Huffington Post business, but rather, that it's a reliable reporter posting in a a reliable news source site. ). Don't know, TPOD, it looks to be reliable. KoshVorlon Rassekali ternii i mlechnye puti 17:57, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
The author WAS a reporter for the LA Times - before he left after a scandal where he and the paper published claims about the very same man involved here that the paper retracted and apologized for.[2] The reporter then goes on to blame the scandal ruined his career. He has a grudge and is not in any way shape or form a reliable source on this subject. In addition, even if he was, the story itself is that some unnamed person who claims to have been in the courtroom overheard someone say something. That third hand tale is what Phillips is basing his new claims on and would be unacceptable hearsay even if Phillips had no previous inappropriate connections to the story. and as a three part definition "Any of the three can affect reliability" and what we have is all three parts are affecting the reliablity - towards non-reliability and clearly not acceptable for accusations of felony charges against a living person. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 21:14, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Remove direct quote from a source article

The "Personal Life" section contains a direct quote from an article to which it links; and the quote itself is, in my opinion, too colorful and opinionated for Wikipedia:

> His bandana tied into rabbit ears struck mythic chords and remains one of hip-hop's most recognizable style flourishes to date.[90]

His bandana may be worth mentioning somewhere in the page; but a source article should not be plagiarized like this.

Acting Career

In addition to rapping and hip hop music, Shakur acted in films. He made his first film appearance in the motion picture Nothing but Trouble, as part of a cameo by the Digital Underground. His first starring role was in the film Juice. In this film, he played Roland Bishop, a violent member of the Wrecking Crew, for which he was hailed by Rolling Stone's Peter Travers as "the film's most magnetic figure".[73] He then went on to star in Poetic Justice and Above the Rim. After his death, three of his completed films were released: Bullet, Gridlock'd, and Gang Related.[74][75]

Shakur had been slated to star in the Hughes brothers' film Menace II Society, but was replaced by Larenz Tate after assaulting Allen Hughes as a result of a quarrel. Director John Singleton mentioned that he wrote the script for Baby Boy with Shakur in mind for the lead role.[76] It was eventually filmed with Tyrese Gibson in his place and released in 2001, five years after Shakur's death. The film features a mural of Shakur in the protagonist's bedroom, as well as featuring the song "Hail Mary" in the film's score.[77]

In the year 1994, Tupac collaborated with his older brother Mopreme, Macadoshis, and Skye on the rated R "Thug Life Project." During this same time frame, Shakur began moving up in his acting career. He most recently performed as Bishop in Ernest Dickerson's Juice. Tupac also made an appearance in, director John Singleton's movie, Poetic Justice, which also casted Janet Jackson. Shakur had his share of mistakes as well in the movie industry. He was removed from the set of Allen Hughes Menace II Society because he attacked the director. He received 15 days in jail after this incident in February 1994. He did however, make it on the final cut of the Basketball movie Above the Rim. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicholasschwartz (talkcontribs) 04:03, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Article Title

The articles related to Tupac Shakur should be renamed. I think that usually an article is named according to a musician's stage name and not his real name. In this case, Tupac Shakur is the real name whereas 2pac is the stage name. I call for all Tupac(-related) articles to be renamed to 2pac(-related). For example, let's compare to another artist - Snoop Dogg. His real name is Cordozar Broadus. We do not see any articles titled "Cordozar Broadus discography" or "List of awards and nominations received by Cordozar Broadus". — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheMagnificentist (talkcontribs) 06:56, 10 August 2016 (UTC) TheMagnificentist (talk) 06:56, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

"2Pac" is a variation on his real name – Tupac. Usually, he is referred to as Tupac, 2Pac, or Tupac Shakur, while Snoop Dogg is almost exclusively referred to as Snoop Dogg. MB298 (talk) 23:51, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

A Pac Community

A community where each member involved must style and person the culture of Southern California in the 90s when Tupac was highly recognized as a culturally influence. Typical styles include backwards hats, blue overalls, greenand yellow shoes. Blaze jackets, cigarette smoking, black sedans and colorful wear. The music that plays is rap, with a makavelian sound, it is a christian community that hails the mother Mary, and are close to Jesus. A pac community smoke weed, and the chosen drink is Alizé Bleu Cognac Liqueur. Religious freedoms include Christianity and islam, though there is a fear of reincarnation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SoundBytes85 (talkcontribs) 01:28, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Anyone know the origin of the name "Shakur"? The possibility that makes the most sense to me and is in line with the inspiration for "Tupac" is that the eponym was 'Abd Allah II ibn 'Ali 'Abd ash-Shakur. In Arabic, شَكُور ‎(šakūr) apparently means "thankful", just like شَاكِر ‎(šākir), whose feminine form Shakira was named after (as her article notes); compare ش ك ر. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 00:04, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Within section Career 1987-93: Beginnings and rise to fame

In first paragraph, after "..album Sons of the P", should move sentence

"Shakur went on to feature Shock G and Money-B from Digital Underground in his track 'I Get Around', which ranked #11 on US Billboard Hot 100."

to the more relevant third paragraph where it mentions the song "..and reached platinum status.". Edit the end of this sentence to "..'I Get Around', where it reached platinum status." and continue with previously moved sentence of "Shakur went on to feature..".

Rewrite the subsequent sentence in the first paragraph "Later, he released his first solo album, 2Pacalypse Now." to

"This would follow with the release of his first solo album, 2Pacalypse Now'."

and continue with the remaining part of the first paragraph as shown on the page. 2A02:587:2C0B:1A00:C19D:5DDA:FE2F:1637 (talk) 17:00, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

Lead sentence

I just cleaned up the lead sentence. It originally stated "rapper, record producer, actor, activist and poet." The guideline WP:BLPLEAD is very clear on this issue. The lead sentence should describe the person as he/she is commonly described in reliable sources. Also, it directs that the lead should not be cluttered with roles that are not integral to the person's notability, instead, emphasize what makes the person notable. If an activity is important and notable, it should form a significant part of the lead. However, there is nothing in the lead about any activies to do with record producing, acting, being a political activists or publishing poetry. On a separate note, producing one's own records does not make a person a professional record producer. LK (talk) 04:34, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

This is unacceptable because you are removing referenced material from an article. This goes against Wikipedia rules.--DanJazzy (talk) 06:15, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
Back up your claim. Post reliable sources calling Tupac a rapper, record producer, actor, activist and poet when referring to him. LK (talk) 06:41, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

The source is given in the lead. It's NPR a well known reliable source.--DanJazzy (talk) 06:59, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Journalists can be prone to hyperbole when writing biographies, you can't cherry pick a few sources and say that's it. The sources don't even agree with each other about his 'other' roles. WP:BLPLEAD says to describe the subject as he is usually described by reliable sources. Try an experiment. Search for Tupac's obituaries or news articles about his induction to the hall of fame. What do they name him as? I've looked, and unanimously, they call him a rapper.
Look, the lead sentence shouldn't be thought of as an awards list. Go to the wikipedia articles about the most influential people of the last century, most of them are identified with one or two roles. Einstein was a theoretical physicist. Keynes was an economist. Gandhi was the leader of the Indian independence movement. John Lenon? Singer and songwriter. Rush Limbough? American entertainer, radio talk show host, writer, and conservative political commentator (ok, I got to fix that).
What we are trying in the lead sentence is to describe the person succinctly to people who have never heard of the person before. If you grandma asks you, "who was Tupac?" What do you say ... he was a poet, record producer and political activist? No, you tell your grandma, he was a rapper.
LK (talk) 09:39, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Your opinion is important, but it remains a subjective opinion. Wikipedia rules state that articles are to be supported by reliable sources. That is simply the bottom line. Here is an academic source on this matter-https://www.jstor.org/stable/25780789?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents-DanJazzy (talk) 09:42, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Actually, you are mistaken there. In BLPs removal of unsourced material comes first. WP:BLP states that controversial material that does not conform to policy must be removed immediately, and controversial material should not be included into an article until consensus is reached that it follows policy (properly sourced, conforms with NPV, WEIGHT, etc.) On BLPs, the onus is on the person who wants to include material to prove his case. LK (talk) 09:58, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
Also, I'm reading the academic article you have linked to, and the article doesn't call him a political activist, she calls him a 'socially conscious artist', which is distinctly different from being an activist. LK (talk) 10:00, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Again, this is your subjective opinion. The academic article clearly speaks of Tupac Shakur's "identifiable political activism" You should also stop inventing rules as you go along. Wikipedia rules are very clear: for a credible article, reliable sources are sacrosanct.--DanJazzy (talk) 14:28, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Look, the lead should state that Tupac was "an American rapper, record producer, actor, poet, and political activist", only if reliable sources commonly describe him that way when introducing who he was. I have looked at how he is commonly described. He is commonly described as a rapper, or sometimes as a rapper and actor. Being a rapper with identifiable political activism is still being a rapper. LK (talk) 14:58, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

I'am afraid you may digging yourself into a hole that you may not easily get out of. For the umpteenth time, a reliable, academic source has described Shakur's quote "identifiable political activism". Now it's very simple; either a)You have a problem with the reliability of the source or b) you have a problem with Shakur's activism. If b) then you have a right to your opinion, but your personal opinion cannot be the basis for a Wikipedia article. Please see the following:- WP:FORUM WP:ORIGINAL WP:BATTLEGROUND--DanJazzy (talk) 06:23, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

You are misreading the policies if you think they support the inclusion of the phrase "rapper, record producer, actor, poet, and political activist" in the lead sentence. WP:BLPLEAD is the relevant guideline, and it is quite clear. Describe the person as he/she is commonly described in reliable sources. Look at his obituaries in the leading newspapers. However do they describe him? LK (talk) 14:11, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

We're going round in circles. This is obviously not helpful. We might require the intervention of the Wikipedia administrators. DanJazzy (talk) 10:40, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

The policy is clearly set forth in MOS:BLPLEAD. Please stop reverting to a version that obviously violates policy. I will quote the relevant section here:

Positions and roles

The lead sentence should describe the person as he or she is commonly described in reliable sources. The notable position(s) or role(s) the person held should usually be stated in the opening paragraph. However, avoid overloading the lead paragraph with various sundry roles; instead, emphasize what made the person notable. Incidental and non-notable roles (i.e. activities that are not integral to the person's notability) should usually not be mentioned in the lead paragraph.

In general, a position, activity, or role should not be included the lead paragraph if: a) the role is not otherwise discussed in the lead, b) the role is not significantly covered in the body of the article, or, c) the role is auxiliary to a main profession of the person (e.g. do not add "textbook writer", if the person is an academic).

LK (talk) 00:26, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

And, I've been reverted without explanation or any policy based cause. Calling an RfC to settle things. LK (talk) 09:23, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

RfC

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The consensus was: C "... rapper and actor"
The majority of the !votes were for a lead sentence with either one or two roles highlighted. Perhaps more importantly, !votes for a shorter lead sentence referred to the guideline on lead sentences, while the !votes for the status quo ("... rapper, record producer, actor, and poet") either did not refer to policy, or based it on a misinterpretation of policy (e.g. WP:V does not imply that because something is verifiable, then it must be in the lead sentence.) LK (talk) 09:55, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

There is disagreement over what should be in the lead sentence. The relevant policy pages are MOS:BLPLEAD and WP:LEADSENTENCE. Should the lead sentence state:
A. "Tupac Amaru Shakur ... was an American rapper, record producer, actor, and poet." Or,
B. "Tupac Amaru Shakur ... was an American rapper." Or,
C. Something else (please explain what).

---LK (talk) 09:23, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Comments

  • B A - The lead should summarize the body of the page and because his acting and producing career and poetry is covered, we should include these titles. I don't see this as cluttering the lead at all. Meatsgains (talk) 21:02, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
My mistake - I just realized I accidentally noted B, when I meant to vote A. I've stricken through my B vote. Meatsgains (talk) 02:38, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Definitely B. A is just a spaghetti mess of stuff. Also, poet? Except for a book of his lyrics, nothing about writing poetry (not lyrics) in the article. Darx9url (talk) 23:22, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
  • B is best and clearest. d.g. L3X1 (distant write) 13:56, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
  • A He was all of those things. For those that object to "poet", there's a lot of sourced material in the article where reliable secondary sources discuss him as a poet. You don't have to publish a book of poetry in order to be a poet, obviously. Rockypedia (talk) 18:13, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
  • A The subject was a renowned musician, actor and poet. One of the pillars of Wikipedia is "verifiability". As indicated by other editors, there are plenty of sources that affirm these facts DanJazzy (talk) 14:44, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
  • B C Version B is compatible with our guidelines and policies, A is not. Very strongly support the shorter version. WP:BLPLEAD states "The lead sentence should describe the person as he or she is commonly described in reliable sources. ... avoid overloading the lead paragraph with various sundry roles; instead, emphasize what made the person notable. Incidental and non-notable roles (i.e. activities that are not integral to the person's notability) should usually not be mentioned in the lead paragraph." And, "In general, a position, activity, or role should not be included the lead paragraph if: a) the role is not otherwise discussed in the lead, b) the role is not significantly covered in the body of the article, or, c) the role is auxiliary to a main profession of the person (e.g. do not add "textbook writer", if the person is an academic)." LK (talk) 00:26, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
I am convinced by the arguments below that Version C "rapper and actor" is preferred. LK (talk) 06:10, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
  • C - rapper and actor; neither are "incidental roles"; the phrase "burgeoning acting career" is identified by several sources, and he has a filmography adequate enough to warrant mentioning the latter role, IMO. I don't see much of anything about his work as a record producer or poet in this B-class article, so I can't speak to those, but perhaps in the future when the article is fleshed out further... The "poet" characterization in sources feels like puffery in reference to his lyricism, which was part and parcel to him being a rapper. Dan56 (talk) 15:56, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
    • ^ Yes to "rapper and actor" if not "rapper, actor, and poet". In the article as it stands today, "record producer" is the least well-substantiated of the possible four identities. "Poet" is pretty well substantiated (do a control-F ...) and I see that the article is classified under numerous "poet" categories. But maybe people could say he didn't write enough poetry to be a poet? One book with several dozen entries? I dunno. But surely, appearing in seven films and playing a lead role in several qualifies someone as an actor, Keanu Reeves haters notwithstanding. Good luck to everyone working on the article. groupuscule (talk) 16:03, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
  • A He was all of those things. Elmmapleoakpine (talk) 18:49, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Try to not overload the first sentence by describing everything notable about the subject. Instead use the first sentence to introduce the topic, and then spread the relevant information out over the entire lead.

While the rest of the faces of his career are quite worthy of mention, Tupac is best known as and most notable as a rapper. The rest of his work should still be mentioned, but not in the lead. Best, Alt3no: Discuss06:27, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

If one aspect of his persona or career overshadows another it doesn't mean he wasn't both. He is widely regarded as an activist and a poet so I am confused as to why you are so hellbent on taking that away from him? Reelesteel (talk) 10:33, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

In response to an earlier comment he isn't regarded as a poet due to his rap lyrics but due to to the fact that he actually penned famous poems.. If you can wrap your head around that. Reelesteel (talk) 10:35, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

In the Biopic section the last line reads "The film was released on June 16, 2016, what would've been Shukar's 46th birthday.[187]" there's a spelling mistake it should be "Shakur's" instead of "Shukar's". Akashd7 (talk) 10:17, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

Artist doesn't like to be labeled gangsta rap

The article has endured some edit warring over the genre gangsta rap which Tupac has stated he doesn't like. Regarding musical genres in the infobox, the artist's own opinion about his genre is certainly interesting and should be summarized for our readers, but it is not defining. The defining genres come from reliable WP:SECONDARY sources such as reviewers. Kee1992, can you comment here? Binksternet (talk) 06:06, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

-“Shakur had been slated to star in the 1993 Hughes brothers' film Menace II Society but was replaced by Larenz Tate after assaulting Allen Hughes as a result of a quarrel.” -*Tupac was actually being casted to play the part of Sharif, but wanted a bigger role; leading to: disagreement, altercation, and the replacement of Tupac with Vonte Sweet, not Larenz Tate. Larenz Tate actually rehearsed with Tupac before the movie took a different direction. In reality Tupac probably wanted the role of Larenz Tate or Tyrin Turner (who are main characters).

In the panel on the right-hand side, where it says "Genre," I believe it is almost offensive to say "Gangsta Rap." If you've ever listened to his discography, you know it isn't gangsta rap. When asked, Tupac himself said he doesn't make gangsta rap. Under "Genre," it should say "Hip Hop, Rap." Kervinf (talk) 18:37, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

Tupac Amaru, Edwin Valero, Ali Raymi & the Inti Raymi Inca cult

Ali Raymi 100% KO ratio, coincides with Edwin Valero 100% ratio, both boxers were directly tied to Peru (in addition to Tupac Amuru) despite no direct connection to Bolivia, Mike Tyson was told to use the word Bolivia in reference to the act of vanishing & fading. Inca culture didn't exist in Los Angeles, Venezuela or Yemen. However, Tupac was named after the Inca Tupac, Edwin Valero Alias was El-Inca & Ali Raymi a direct reference to teh Inti Raymi cult openly claimed to be GOD, both boxers had direct connections to now deceased dictators, Ali Raymi first fight was listed as promoted by Saleh, also the 2010 Ali Raymi Anti-Terrorism operation was named "blow to head" prior to Ali Raymi turning pro. Many people still believe Ali Raymi & Edwin Valero are still alive in Cuba or Bermuda. 63times (talk) 00:44, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Tupac and Kidada Jones

Tupac made his first impression on Kidada Jones and her family when he called out her father, Quincy Jones, in an interview he gave to The Source Magazine in 1993. He was commenting on the fact that Quincy Jones has always been involved in interracial relationships. He said some offensive things in the article and therefore left a bad impression on The Jones Family. A couple years later Tupac and Kidada ran into each other in a club. From then on they developed a relationship after he apologized to her. Kidada's father wasn't happy and expressed he would not welcome Tupac in his home. While Tupac and Kidada were on a date, Quincy Jones happened to run into them. Quincy and Tupac spoke privately at the time and Tupac apologized for his comments. Thereafter, Tupac became close to their family and even had plans to do some projects with Quincy which would have begun around the time of his death. Tupac and Kidada were living together for several months at the time he was murdered and Kidada and her family have claimed she and Tupac were engaged. (2PacKidada (talk) 03:14, 19 March 2018 (UTC))

Adding Info To Tupac's Personal Life Section On Wiki Page

Tupac Shakur was in a relationship with Kidada Jones, Quincy Jones daughter, at the time of his death. They were living together for months and Kidada revealed they were engaged. She had gone to Las Vegas with him on that fateful trip when he was murdered. She was waiting for him at their hotel room while he was going to Suge Knight's club for a brief appearance. Tupac said he would be about an hour & unfortunately, he was gunned down before he even got to the club. Shortly after Tupac was shot, Kidada received the call to get to the hospital. 2PacKidada (talk) 02:29, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

It is said that Tupac Shakur was put into a coma to keep him from getting out of bed. The reference does not indicate this, only that he was heavily sedated. As for getting out of bed, that is unikely. Most reports claim that he never regained consciousness in the hospital even if some people close to him claim that they think he had some form of awareness (which may be wishful thinking, either way it's an unsubstantiated claim). He may have had slight, possibly involuntary, movements but he seems to have been in no position to attempt getting out of bed. 95.76.141.183 (talk) 07:51, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

I believe that the legal issues section in Tupac Shakur Wikipedia page is totally false, and it only needs to be edited with his only real legal issue Tupac had that happened in 1996 with issues of court cases that were undefinable. I also want to add the emphasis that the legal issues story is very not credible, untruthful, and has no basis at all except that he had legal issues only in 1996 with court cases that were nobody knew was about.74.110.121.122 (talk) 19:05, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

He was a Christian, or at the very least theist - - militant atheists are lying

He always wore crosses, also tattooed crosses. etc. Always referenced the afterlife in songs and interviews. Believed in sin, etc. Some arrogant militant atheists are painting him as a deist with no belief in afterlife, PURE INSANITY AND DIABOLICAL LIES. Arrogant atheists always lie and downplay peoples' true beliefs to advance their goal materialistic goals. Tupac believed in a personal God, hell and heaven and the concept of sin. 100%. Please change In 1986, the family moved from New York to Baltimore

to

In 1984, the family moved from New York to Baltimore

why?

Tupac and his family moved to Baltimore in 1984, not 1986.

The given source is an article from Vibe magazine 1999, which happens to be available via Google books. But the date is wrong, I realized this through reading in Tupac Resurection [1], which is the official book to the 2003 documentary of the same name [2]. Doing some further research, these resources also state 1984:

It's a mugshot but it's free use. Should it go in the infobox? MB298 (talk) 07:11, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

@MB298: not in this case. The infobox maintains an overview of the subject's biography, and this specific mugshot isn't too relevant to why he's a notable subject (for his significant rapping career). More importantly, a mugshot like this (or one that's similar in appearance to a mugshot) shouldn't be used out of context to possibly present the subject in a false or disparaging light. – Aranya (talk) 14:15, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
