Possible causes of drug-resistant epilepsy

[edit]

I think that it might be good to mention possible causes of drug-resistant epilepsy. Maybe start a standalone article? For instance, cerebral folate deficiency and pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy. Cheers from Yekaterinburg, Russia, --CopperKettle (talk) 06:23, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Good Morning! I am a medical student editing this article through a course over the next month. I have listed below a basic workplan based on what is already in this talk page and my own preliminary perusing of sources available.
My primarily plan is to further develop a causes section for this article as that has not yet been tackled this could be a section within the introduction or completely separate. I am planning to address some genetic causes, talk about incidence, etc.
I would also like to further flesh out the diagnostic work-up for DRE including fleshing out the MEG section and further adding/source checking what is already present. Time permitting I will also do the same for the surgery and diet sections of the topic but my main focus will be the first two section. Aasj2215 (talk) 16:37, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good Evening! Just wanted to provide a quick update of changes I've made thus far. I revamped the introduction section and included a section on causes of DRE. I also revamped the diet and diagnosis sections with the addition of some sections. I also started a new section on pharmacotherapy and am in the process of fleshing out the drugs listed within that subsection. Any and all feedback is appreciated! Peer Review:

Great job with your edits! Seems you made a realistic workplan and have been able to keep up with it. Your writing is generally easy to read with good flow. The references I checked appear to be from reputable sources.
I especially like how you fleshed out the causes of DRE. You did a good job of introducing and organizing the new pharmacotherapy section as well (including the disclaimer that most sources are primary). I reviewed your changes to the diagnostic evaluation and diets sections, which are great quality additions.
One recommendation is to look for opportunities to link medical terms to their established Wikipedia pages. This will assist the lay person in better understanding your article. For example, in your description of fenfluramine, add hyperlinks for "amphetamine" and "serotonin agonist". I also recommend carefully reviewing your work for grammar or typos, as I noted just a few minor ones while reading. For example, in your description of the target hypothesis, you spell AEDs as AEDS. Additionally, if time permits, take a look at the surgery section and add needed citations where indicated.

Thank you for the wonderful edits and suggestions! I've gone ahead and linked various wikipedia pages to this article, and I appreciate the specific feedback. I've also gone and checked grammar for the sections I have edited. Given time constraints of this course there are still some areas that need to be addressed. For future editors, I would continue to expand on the pharmacotherapy section of this article. I would also polish up/add material to the surgery section as that is not something I addressed.
