==Biography==
Stephen White attended the University of Berkley in California for his undergrad and graduated in 1972, he continued to the University of Colorado where he graduated with his master's in 1979 (BookBrowse). White specialized in the psychological effects caused by marital problems, especially in men. After obtaining his doctorate White worked as a psychologist for children with cancer at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO. He later went on to work at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and then later worked as a psychologist in a private practice(Husted).
In 1986 White was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis after presenting symptoms for approximately 10 years prior(Reading). White uses his disease as a source of information for one of the characters in his Alan Gregory Series.
==Books==
===Inspiration===
====Privileged Information====
Stephens's first book "Privileged Information" was published in 1991, and was not intentional. In 1989 Stephen bought his first computer and at the time practiced psychology in Boulder, CO. The aim of the computer was to help with billing and doing reports, but he could not figure out how to use it (Stephen...1 of 6). Stephen decided to write a story using some of his professional experience to teach himself. Between patients Stephen would write a little bit at a time, never intending for it to be published.
The idea of privileged information originated from a relatively esoteric psychology law problem known as the tariff problem. What Stephen explores in this book is a therapist who gets into a situation where he believes the patient is about to hurt someone, and the main character, Dr. Alan Gregory, struggles with the legal and ethical implications.
====Higher Authority====
When writing Higher Authority, Privileged information had yet to come out. Stephen was sitting in a bar in Pasadena watching the Clarence Thomas and Anita Hill hearings, and Tom Brokaw was interviewing someone from the republican party, and they had said if Clarence Thomas was turned down by the Senate then the next nominee would be Orrin Hatch(Stephen... 2 of 6). Stephen started thinking about Orrin Hatch and the Supreme Court and the little knowledge he had on Utah and decided to turn that information into a book
====Warning Signs====
This book was loosely influenced by one of the shooters in the Columbine Shooting( Stephen...3 of 6). There was a short news story in one of Denver's papers, alluding to the fact that one of the Columbine shooters had seen a psychotherapist before the high school tragedy. Stephen had stated that it got him thinking about how awful it must have been to have seen a kid in that position and wondered if the kid had alluded to his plans at the school. This is where the whole premises of the book come from. Stephen doesn't directly discuss or make the book about Columbine but he does approach the idea of whose responsibility it would be if there are signs or a sense of the kid getting out of control. While he used Columbine as a basis for this novel, he acknowledges that this tragedy occurred 6-7 miles from his house and waited 3 years after the incident because it was too soon for him.
====Missing Persons====
Missing Persons is very loosely based on the JonBenét Ramsey case(Stephen...3 of 6). Stephen did not find the case itself as interesting as it was regarding the murder of a child. Due to the nature of the case, Stephen waited about 8 years before publishing the book out of respect for JonBenét Ramsey. He never paid attention to details and never followed any of the rumors. What Stephen used from this case was the disappearance of a girl on Christmas night, and made the girl the age that JonBenét Ramsey would've been in 2005, 14.
====Kill Me====
Around 2002 Stephen was invited by some friends to meet a friend of theirs named Peter Barton Stephen was told that Peter had 3 months to live due to stomach cancer, and he had done some writing that he wanted Stephen to review (Stephen...4 of 6). Stephen believed he was meant to be the bearer of bad news and tell Peter that his work was unextraordinary. To his disbelief, his collection of work was extraordinary. Peter Barton had written a collection of essays to form a memoir about his life and his view on living since his diagnosis. Stephen went ahead and set Peter up with author Laurence Shames and together they published a book called "Not Fade Away: A Short Life Well Lived". April that year Peter had told Stephen about a man in the CIA that his mother had been dating, and one day he had mysteriously gone over a cliff hang gliding or ice climbing and died. Based on this story Stephen had asked Peter if he had ever considered mysteriously disappearing and driving off a cliff, and Peter said he would never do that due to his kids. This conversation sparked an idea in Stephen. Stephen wondered what if there was a company that you could sign up for, like an insurance policy, and if you ever became psychically ill or disabled to a certain degree then they would step in and discreetly end your life. The one caveat is that you would have to sign up while you are healthy and you can't back out once you're sick, this was another ethical dilemma and the premise of the book Kill me

The aim of the computer was to help with billing and doing reports, but he could not figure out how to use it (Stephen...1 of 6). Stephen decided to write a story using some of his professional experience to teach himself. Between patients Stephen would write a little bit at a time, never intending for it to be published.',
18 => '',
19 => 'The idea of privileged information originated from a relatively esoteric psychology law problem known as the tariff problem. What Stephen explores in this book is a therapist who gets into a situation where he believes the patient is about to hurt someone, and the main character, Dr. Alan Gregory, struggles with the legal and ethical implications.',
20 => '====Higher Authority====',
21 => 'When writing Higher Authority, Privileged information had yet to come out. 2 of 6). Stephen started thinking about Orrin Hatch and the Supreme Court and the little knowledge he had on Utah and decided to turn that information into a book',
22 => '====Warning Signs====',
23 => 'This book was loosely influenced by one of the shooters in the Columbine Shooting( Stephen...3 of 6). While he used Columbine as a basis for this novel, he acknowledges that this tragedy occurred 6-7 miles from his house and waited 3 years after the incident because it was too soon for him.',
24 => '====Missing Persons====',
25 => 'Missing Persons is very loosely based on the JonBenét Ramsey case(Stephen...3 of 6). ',
26 => '====Kill Me====',
27 => 'Around 2002 Stephen was invited by some friends to meet a friend of theirs named Peter Barton Stephen was told that Peter had 3 months to live due to stomach cancer, and he had done some writing that he wanted Stephen to review (Stephen...4 of 6). The one caveat is that you would have to sign up while you are healthy and you can't back out once you're sick, this was another ethical dilemma and the premise of the book Kill me',
