This image was downloaded from http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pjSFTOY6cE8/UkBBdy1yI1I/AAAAAAAAQYQ/fgfBRk3HR6c/s1600/aaawatch4.jpg. The copyright holder is undetermined; however, it is reasonable to assume the copyright holder was ABC (American Broadcasting Company), since the advertisement was designed to boost one of its own programs. The program, "Afternoon Film Festival," ended in 1957. That makes the original copyright at least 57 years old. Unfortunately, it is not known whether that copyright was ever renewed. Nonetheless, the image here is declared as fair use. Justification is argued in the content below. |
Article | |
Portion used |
The entire image. No portion of it has been cropped, and there have been no efforts to augment the image with sharpening or blurring of detail. |
Low resolution? |
The resolution is of sufficient clarity and in no way will its appearance harm the reputation of the responsible artists and/or copyright holder(s), if any. |
Purpose of use |
The purpose of the image is to augment the content of the article, with both an inclusion of some of the various titles that were broadcast by the anthology under discussion in the Wikipedia article, as well as a picture of one of the anthology's hosts. |
Replaceable? |
The image is used here to communicate what cannot be adequately described in terms of pure text alone. The image is intended to invoke a sense of what was considered fashionable commercial graphic artistry in terms of 1950's popular culture -- specifically, television, which at the time was still a fledgling industry, attempting to gain a foothold as Americans' new primary source of entertainment. |
Other information |
The use of the image will not affect the value of the original commercial artwork or limit a copyright holder's rights or ability to distribute the original. |
