Speedy decline on Yamang pisikal

Hi Eastlaw. I've declined your G1 tag on Yamang pisikal as non-English content is not included in the said criteria. -CTS talk 09:37, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I placed the tag because A) it was foreign language material (appears to be Malay) with no indications of what it is about, and contained a personal message at bottom. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 09:41, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but G1 is specifically for 'incoherent text or gibberish with no meaningful content or history'. If you were concerned about the lack of context then the appropriate tag would be A1. -CTS talk 09:46, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is it that simple?

Hi

I saw you helped clean up the mess I made at the Monster Raving Loony Party politicians template. Is it that simple? Could I've just removed the speedy deletion template and got on with my life when I recognised the error? benjamil talk/edits 07:48, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Probably. The regular deletion template will be handled by an admin, I think. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 07:51, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. benjamil talk/edits 08:16, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to notify you that I have removed the "uncat" tag you added to this article despite that you added 2 categories using HotCat. I'm assuming you probably wanted the "improve categories" tag? If so, I feel the better priority is adding sources as the 2 categories are sufficient for now. Cheers! SwisterTwister talk 04:50, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I added that tag by mistake. Sorry about that. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 04:51, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop vandalizing the Global Labor Arbitrage page. It is a very legitimate economic concept and phenomenon that deserves to have its own page, and the page that you have been redirecting it to does NOT even mention the concept by name and contains almost none of the content of this article. WhipperSnapper (talk) 18:44, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what you are talking about. I never vandalized that page, I only added some links and categories. If you continue to make false accusations I will have to get the admins involved. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 01:32, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Gaijin42. That was a very nice technical solution to the irksome issue of how to cross-maintain the summary tables from the "by state" article vs. the individual state articles. Thanks very much for figuring that out and putting it into place! Mudwater (Talk) 01:23, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys. I figured that it would be the best solution, rather than keeping two sets of tables. Now we just need to create tables for those states that don't have them. I will try to get to it when I have time, but I have been rather busy lately. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 02:34, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

from Fair Treatment - not sure where I'm supposed to reply to your comment but I'm not a PR agency or a law firm...

I was reading an article about a lawyer and looked at that lawyer's law firm page on Wikipedia because it sounded interesting. I found it a nice quick read so did I search for law firms and found the NLJ 350 list. While clicking through some of the sites, I noticed that some of the law firms are flagged for whatever reason while other law firm with the same information are not.

For instance, why does one firm has its history section marked as "advertising" but another firm of similar lawyer count have minutia on its page and it doesn't have any flags at all?

I also noticed that some of the law firms have "news" added to the pages that appear to only have been added to make that law firm look bad or came from just one side of a story.

Wikipedia is supposed to be neutral, isn't it?

So, I used the Wikipedia NLJ 350 listing page and went law firm by law firm and deleted allegations and old news (really does any one care that in 2008 that the economy caused a firm to lay off people? Why isn't every corporation listed in Wikipedia have that same information listed?).

I have no ownership over any of the law firms that I marked and would need to go back to "my contributions" to see which ones I touched. I went through much of the NLJ 350 list -- at least for the firms that have Wikipedia pages.

Anyone revert text that was truly factual. No complaints from me. I hope, however, there are others like me who are not interested in reading so-called news or facts that are, in truth, gossip or unproven allegations.

Wikipedia should be informative and unbiased; too many petty posts, insignificant "news" (talk) 01:24, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question - just so I understand

Hello again Eastlaw - Went to see what you reverted and started at the first page I touched, which was Nixon Peabody. I read over the page as a disinterested editor and didn't see how four-year-old news about an internal anthem was current or how provided neutral information about the firm, so I removed it. I see you put it back and I won't touch it but could you help me understand how it would be considered "encyclopedic content" which is what Wikipedia strives to provide. Wikipedia should be informative and unbiased; too many petty posts, insignificant "news" (talk) 01:53, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the concerns you are voicing, but the fact remains that while some material may seem odd or trivial, if it is properly sourced there is no reason for it not to be in the article. The fact that one firm may have more material in its article than other does not change this. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 22:34, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

container category edit for Category:Health,_education,_and_welfare_economics

Hello, E.

I notice that for your edit of the above at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Health,_education,_and_welfare_economics&oldid=300551944

the template says that the Category should contain only subcategories, not article listings. Now that could be b/c (i) you believe that each articles belongs in a subcategory (H, E, or W). Or it could be that you believe (ii) Cat:HEW in principle should have no articles period. If it's the latter, I can think of reason why in principle they might be OK to include: if the respective articles straddle or go beyond the confines of one subcategory. The latter is suggested by this printout from http://www.aeaweb.org/jel/guide/jel_sub.php?class=I0 for JEL:I (HEW):

These second level JEL code pages contain more descriptive guidelines, keywords, and also examples of items with that specific classification. Alternatively, you can choose a different primary JEL Classification section to view from the list on the right.
[JEL] I00
General I 000 Health, Education, and Welfare: GeneralGuideline: Covers studies and data about general issues related to health, education and welfare.
Examples:Indicators and Targets for Social Inclusion in the European Union

If it's (ii) that you believe, it seems to me that the JEL classification would allow such a listing of example or articles & that therefore the corresponding WP JEL category should too.

May I ask your thoughts on the matter as to (i) vs. (ii) or on the previous sentence? I'll look for your answer here, though in your own good time, & not necessarily soon. Thank you. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 21:54, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I would agree more with statement (i). If you wish to get rid of the "container category" notice, that's OK with me. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 07:13, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nice Talkback link, E. OK, thanks. I take no position here on whether the resp. articles belong there or at a lower-level JEL code. B/c I believe that containment template is likely to be read as (ii) and b/c any classification deficiency could be remedied by moving the HEW articles down, I'll do you what have suggested I might. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 15:44, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question on tagging of pages

I notices you have tagged Cara Black career statistics as an orphan page even though it is not. Is this a tool that you are using that is falsely identifying it as having no incoming links?--Traveler100 (talk) 07:39, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I was going by the old rule that an article should have more than one incoming link in article space. Feel free to remove the tag if you feel I was wrong in applying it. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 09:13, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, was just starting to analyse how these backlog lists build up. BTW I have added an extra parameter to {{Orphan}}. You can state few=date after the existing date=date to specify that although there are one or two incoming links it is felt that more are needed. --Traveler100 (talk) 13:55, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bobby Steele, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chiller Theatre (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). A tag has been placed on Template:USGovernment-Navy/doc, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

The template has been redirected into a duplicate template so this page is not needed, but the text will be placed at the other template's location

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. I have used a nifty tool "CatScan" to create a list of articles that contain a {{CathEncy}} template and {{Catholic}} template. I have then imported that list (about 300 articles) and written an AWB script to populate an empty {{Catholic}} template from the {{CathEncy}} template and then delete the {{CathEncy}} template if it is not used as an inline citation.

Your user name came up several times in the first few articles that I examined, some from which I deleted the {{Catholic}} template because I could not see any text currently in the Wikipedia article that could be seen as plagiarised text from the Catholic Encyclopaedia without the attribution template.

I have just restarted going thorough my list in AWB (after a short R&R break) and the first article I looked at is Ambrose Shea. Looking at the text of the Wikipedia article I could not see any text that was copied from the Catholic Encyclopaedia.

Using another useful tool "wikiblame", I can see that you added the template to the article (20:52, 19 January 2009). I then looked further into the article's history:

  • Revision as of 23:42, 11 Dec. 2006: First big expansion and the source used was presumably the given source "Biography at the Dictionary of Canadian Biography Online"
  • Revision as of 08:37, 13 Oct. 2007: template CathEncy added to the external links section by JASpencer, but no text added.
  • Revision as of 20:52, 19 Jan. 2009: template Catholic added to the external links section by you, but AFAICT there was no need for it.

In the minute that you added the {{Catholic}} to Ambrose Shea you also added the same template to 6 other articles, and in the minute before and after you added the same template to another 7 and 12 articles.

I also notice that later in the month of January 2009 you did something similar to articles with the {{EB1911}}.

What were the criteria that you used for adding these templates and did they include checking to see if any text had been copied, or closely paraphrased, from a PD source before adding the template?

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on List of largest U.S. law firms by number of lawyers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.nationallawjournal.com/id=1202548639714/?slreturn=20140212174256&__nored=1. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Mdann52talk to me! 21:44, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz

The article Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

New deal for page patrollers

Hi Eastlaw,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help a rookie out? :)

Hi, Eastlaw! I noticed you're an expert with legal content here on Wikipedia and I'm hoping to get your input on a page I'm drafting for a law firm and its owner: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BrianLeeMarsh/sandbox

I based the format on a page you'd contributed to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snell_%26_Wilmer

I'd love to get your feedback on the page to make sure it'll pass the "sniff test". Full disclosure: It's for a client of mine but I do believe he meets the notability standard since he's a published author and respected lawyer in his area.

Thanks a bunch for any input you're willing to share!

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:10, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
