Question

Can anyone suggest a better way of saying "The quarries, especially North Quarry and Tank Quarry are a favourite place for local teenagers to be rescued from.", or should the line just be removed?

Geology(expansion needed)

The geology of the Malvern Hills is complex enough for the article to have its own section on the composition of the rocks, and a cutaway diagramme of the strata. These are some of the oldest hills in the country and this information is therefore important. maybe somebody can help by creating this section. Some useful background information is available here: Malvern Hills Geology. --Kudpung (talk) 03:32, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have expanded it slightly but much remains to be added. Geopersona (talk) 21:39, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Very good ideas. Here's the probable order of importance. I'll chip in too whren I can.

  • Significant changes occurred after the outbreak of WW2, as the town was chosen as a refuge for government departments, and an RAF base was set up. Evacuees from the south arrived, as did troops for quartering and refugees from Belgium. With the arrival of US forces, the town population swelled to 30000 and five army hospitals were built on the town’s fringes. The two existing government Research establishments, founded around WW1, were united in 1953 as the Radar Research Establishment and this remains a defence installation to this day. --http://www.docstoc.com/docs/2203319/A-brief-history-of-Malvern-England

Does "Hollybush Hill" exist?

The list of hills (which seems to be take from http://www.ephotozine.com/photolocations/malvern-hills-488 without giving them a citation) includes "Hollybush Hill" between Midsummer Hill and Raggedstone Hill. This appears to be a misreading of the map at http://www.malvernhills.org.uk/Content/Malverns_PocketGuide_web.pdf which includes the village of Hollybush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollybush,_Worcestershire) and a few other passes in what is otherwise a list of hills. After several hours of research, I can't find any evidence of there being a hill of the same name.

The source of the confusion may well be http://www.malvernhillsaonb.org.uk/documents/L02-2135-02B.pdf - note that this includes "Tinkers Hill 700ft (213m)" which isn't on the Wiki, and perhaps should be? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.24.30.53 (talk) 12:59, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hollybush Hill lies below and to the east of Midsummer Hill.

I've added Tinkers Hill to the list of individual hills. Mhygelle (talk) 19:17, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am considering nominating this article to be rated as a Good article in the new year. Does the Vistas section go into too much detail to satisfy Good article criteria? Mhygelle (talk) 10:35, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The section is perhaps overly detailed but not easily reduced. However, the information is not really of the nature that would constitute a complete article on its own. Despite this, of these two choices, the latter would probably be the appraoch I would suggest. Split off the tables into a stand alone piece and reference the "main article" in the section but keep the overview. Saffron Blaze (talk) 11:26, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think the section is fine within the article, although it could be greatly improved by adding coordinates for each vista point. The same comment about coordinates is also true for the list of hills too. When that is done, adding the {{kml}} template to the article will allow all the hills and vista points to be viewed on a single clickable/zoomable map. That sort of thing adds real value to Wikipedia articles (IMHO). --Bob Re-born (talk) 11:56, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
