203.79.86.133 10:32, 28 February 2006 (UTC) I marked it in need of updating, it makes reference to something coming into use during 2005, which was awhile ago now.
Unfortunately I don't particularly know the details, or care to check them out right now.
Windows to Linux
When was the move from Windows to Linux decided? How?
David Latapie (✒ | @) 15:30, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
The Linux decision was in 2003. See magazine report at http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/issues/2003/Nov/Land_Warrior.htm Msybe we need to reflect some of Col. Gallop's comments in the LW history section. JXM 16:41, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you
David Latapie (✒ | @) 11:14, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
At the moment there is only one mention of Linux; the rest of the article talks about Windows, so that section comes off as something of a non sequitur. So this information needs integrating into the article. Hairy Dude 02:00, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
The Land Warrior system is interoperable between Windows and Linux. 4.166.216.109 21:14, 2 June 2007 (UTC)DLM
- Not really. The earlier experimental versions, using the Windows platform, were superceded by the current Linux-based model. The 802.11-based comms protocol previously used is not compatible with the present network. However, new Windows units theoretically could be developed and added to the current network. JXM 01:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Land Warrior and Future Force Warrior
How are these two articles/projects related? It's not really clearly stated in either articles, although FFW makes a fleeting reference to LW, is one of them possibly an offshoot of the other? Both entries on these projects seem to run parallel to each other in terms of their objectives, should we consider a merger? --Seng Yew 09:43, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- I read this as 'similar projects which may interest the reader'. To that end I added Future Integrated Soldier Technology to this section, which is a UK MOD project along broadly similar lines. Stonejag 21:44, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Recent Update
The latest news on the LW program is here. Unfortunately, I don't have time to summarize it and update the WP page - maybe someone else can. JXM 19:26, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Badly Written
The last few lines under the history section are badly written and need to be modified or removed.--71.12.103.126 05:42, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed - they're not just badly written, they're completely irrelevant. Go for it!! JXM 02:21, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Project Cancelled
The Land Warrior project was zeroed during the FY 2008 R&D request budget. I've made a note of it, and just gone through the article switching tenses. A more wideranging edit is needed, I guess. Banality 18:13, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
I think the overall change to the past tense is a bit premature. The termination of the program is being requested in the 2008/9 budget submission. In any case, the upcoming deployment of current LW-SI systems to Iraq is scheduled to occur before FY 2008 starts, and some ongoing maintenance and support activities for these systems will probably be needed beyond that time.
WP's history of LW should reflect some of this, rather than just consiging it all to the past tense. JXM 21:52, 6 February 2007 (UTC)'
I thoguht that this system was cancelled some years ago. I had heard it was cancelled after they couldnt make the computer and battery lighter, and the battery last longer. They needed to make the battery lighter becuase the soilder could only carry 2 into the field and still be just under the US Army's weight restrictions, and to make it more powerful becuase the battery only lasted 12 hours.Gundam94 16:22, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism
Someone edited in "LAND WARRIOR SUCKS AND SO DOES 5.56 AMMUNITION" and i can't erase it and he may also have taken out the picture of the solider wearing it.
never mind someone fixed it
Fielded
The Land Warrior system is going too/has been fielded in Iraq. The Army's 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment will be deployed to Iraq with the Land Warrior system. The DOD is calling it a "dry run" of the system. Just for the record...
This article doesn't have or need a "popular culture" section, but the irony is so rich: The Land Warrior system is used in the zombie novel World War Z, where it's the decisive factor in the largest U.S. defeat. Soldiers using it get to read maps showing that the horde is far bigger than they thought, listen with great efficiency as comrades begin to panic, and see exactly what happens when someone is devoured. So much for specialization. --Kizor 23:11, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
