This article is written in British English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, travelled, centre, defence, artefact, analyse) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.
I am not sure whether it's known but it would be interesting to add the first expedition that reached 8000 m or passed some significant passages on the route before the summit was reached. I know about Andrew Irvine and George Mallory who reached at least 8450 m on Mt.
