Scope of article
I hope this has come out all right: there was much duplication between the separate articles on the clergyman and on the ship.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 13:49, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
I have reverted some revisions by another editor, User:Anments (talk), which had the effect of producing two articles about the ship SS Chauncy Maples, and none about the Anglican bishop for whom the ship was named. I believe that the primary article name should be based on the original person (who clearly was and is notable) and his work in East Africa, while the article about the ship should be named as the ship was named, and also should not contain too much duplication about the bishop. At an earlier time (spring 2009) there was only an article about the ship, which contained extensive information about the person. I split that article into two, one about the person and one about the ship, which had a life of its own on Lake Malawi in the century after Maple's death. Please do not re-scope these articles without consensus on the two talk pages, as it creates confusion and extra work, and some material is duplicated (sometimes inaccurately), while other information and sources may be lost in the editing confusion. Apologies for any confusion I have introduced myself, and thanks to all for their work. Wwheaton (talk) 18:38, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Date inconsistency
The article states that he was appointed bishop in 1896, but on p. 268 of Journals and Papers of Chauncy Maples, Late Bishop of Likoma, Lake Nyasa, it says he died in 1895, as does the Dictionary of African Christian Biography. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:15, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
