Etymology

At a guess, I'd say direct from the spanish el cántaro "pitcher, jug", which the instrument essentially is. --cjllw ʘ TALK 03:03, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, cantaros would appear to be a traditional Iberian instrument, ie not solely a mexican innovation. See for eg pt:Cântaro com abano.
