miHoYo is a Chinese video game developer and publisher based in Shanghai. It is known for developing mobile and action games in the style of Japanese anime. The company's motto is "Tech otakus save the world".
History
The company was founded in 2011 by three students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University who decided to develop games based on their love of anime. Their first breakout hit game was Gun Girls which was released in 2014.[1] Since then, they've had success releasing otaku games that appeal to male consumers mostly on mobile. Although some of their games were successful in Asia, they would not reach global success until the release of Honkai Impact 3rd which became a big hit both locally and interationally. [2] Their most recent game, Genshin Impact, was their first console release and saw an even bigger success thanks in part to its wider release and gameplay.[3]
