The 2020 Twin Cities riots are an ongoing series of riots and civil disturbances that occurred in Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. Unrest began in Minneapolis on May 26, after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Derek Chauvin, an officer of the Minneapolis Police Department. Demonstrations and protests were initially peaceful, but windows were smashed at a police precinct, two stores were set on fire, and other stores were looted and damaged in the metropolitan area.[1] Law enforcement responded by shooting tear gas and firing rubber bullets into the crowds.[2][3]
