Lilla Melodifestivalen was the Swedish national final that selects the entry to represent Sweden in the annual Melodi Grand Prix Nordic junior singing competition. Between 2002 and 2005, Sweden sent its winners to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC), when MPG Nordic was not active. In 2006, Sweden withdrew itself from JESC, along with Denmark and Norway, continued to participate in Melodi Grand Prix Nordic instead.

In 2010, SVT returned to the JESC, so the winner goes to the big European competition. In 2015, Lilla Melodifestivalen was cancelled in order to put focus on a new singing contest called Supershowen. Sweden will therefore not take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the foreseeable future unless they use a different selection format to replace Lilla Melodifestivalen, since Supershowen runs from October to November.
