Islam El Shehaby (born 1 August 1982) is an Egyptian judoka. He competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Islam El Shehaby was 9 times African Champion 2002-2013 and he was World bronze medallist in 2010 in Tokyo. El Shehaby won 18 World Cup medals and achieved victories in Abu Dhabi, Dusseldorf, Cairo, Moscow, Qingdao and Baku. In 2016 he won silver at the Grand Prix in Düsseldorf.

El Shehaby competed at the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro where he lost to Israeli Or Sasson. During the match, he refused to bow or shake hands with his opponent and as a result of this major breach of judo etiquette was booed by the crowd. After his defeat, El Shehaby lay flat on his back for a moment before standing to take his place before Sasson, in front of the referee. When Sasson extended his hand, El Shehaby backed away, shaking his head.[1]The referee then called El Shehaby back to the mat and obliged to him bow, at which time El Shehaby gave a quick nod of his head. El Shehaby's conduct was widely condemned as unsportsmanlike. It is unclear what potential punishment El Shehaby or Egyptian judo as a whole could face, but his hopes of medaling were dashed regardless due to Sasson's decisive performance in the quarterfinals.
