"O'Carroll" is an Irish family name with significant historical importance. One member of the family, or "Sept", was a signatory of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of North America. "Ely O'Carroll", from the general area of modern day Birr, was probably the most important of the five "Septs" of the clann, others being located in Kerry and Kilkenny.
