Yaakov Schwei is an Orthodox rabbi and a member of the Chabad Hasidic movement. Rabbi Schwei serves as on the Bais Din Tzedek (Jewish Rabbinical Court) of the Chabad community in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.[1][2][3][4]
Activities
The Crown Heights rabbinical court is the spiritual and religious body governing the Crown Heights Chabad community. As a member of the Beth Din, Rabbi Schwei is considered one of the community's chief rabbis. Rabbi Avraham Osdoba presides over the Beth Din.[2] [1] [3] [4]
Crown Heights Kashrus
Rabbi Schwei supervises the Crown Heights Kashrus (CHK), a kosher certification, operating under the Crown Heights rabbinical court administered by Rabbi Osdoba. In recent years, Rabbi Osdoba's authority as administrator of the CHK was challenged by others in the community, including supporters of Rabbi Schwei.[5] Osdoba's authority was eventually upheld in the New York State courts.[6][7]
Statement on local blogs
Both Rabbis Osdoba and Schwei spoke out against several "hate blogs" created by members of the community.[2][1]
