Tom Perls
Dr. Tom Perls (born 1960) is the founding director of the New England Centenarian Study.[1] Born in Palo Alto, California, Perls later moved to Colorado and is now residing in Boston.[2] Founded at Harvard University, the study is now based at Boston University. Dr Perls is Professor of medicine at Boston University and attending physician in geriatrics at Boston Medical Center.
Perls is also the author of the online Living to 100 Life Expectancy Calculator.[3] Perls is a prominent critic of the controversial medical group the "American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine".
A controversial paper regarding the genetics of aging with which he was associated was retracted from the journal Science in 2011 due to flawed data.[4]
The corrected version of the work was published in Plos One in 2012.[5]
