Parque Provincial Pereyra Iraola

The Parque Pereyra Iraola is a large urban park located in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina[1] . And the richest biodiversity in the province.[2]


Biosphere Reserve

In 2008 UNESCO declared Biosphere Reserve Pereyra Iraola Park. The initiative aims to conserve biodiversity before the advance of the buildings in that area[3] .

The accusations of improper use

In October 2010, a TV program showed the Parque Pereyra Iraola is used for a purpose other than what was planned: Do not operate a landfill and some neighbors also complain about the new line, the proposal for the new President Perón highway that affect the nature reserve, although recently the project was able to be suspended.

Rename

On 23 November 2012 he obtained the prior approval of the Senate of the Province of Buenos Aires to change the name of the park by the Governor Domingo Mercante. The proposal was provincial initiative of Senator James Carreras, the Front for Victory. In its core, emphasizes that "the goal of changing the name of Parque Pereyra Iraola from Buenos Aires Governor Domingo Mercante, try to remember and recognize their important management decision to expropriate these lands"
