The India national under-16 football team, also known as India under-16s or India U16(s), represents India in association football at an under-16 age level and is controlled by the All India Football Federation, the governing body for football in India. The current manager is Colm Toal.
Competition history
AFC U-16 Championship
The top regional competition for the India U16s is the AFC U-16 Championship which were started in 1985. India played in the tournament for the first time in 1990 in which the team finished in third in there group of four, only winning one match against Jordan.[1] India then qualified for the tournament again in 1996 in which they finished last in there group which included Iran, Thailand, Bahrain and China PR.[2] The team then went through another six years before qualifying for the 2002 tournament in which India managed to make it to the quarter-finals in which they lost 3–1 to South Korea.[3] India then qualified for the 2004 tournament but could not make it past the group stage finishing third out of four in a group that had Iran, Kuwait and Malaysia.[4] India went on to compete in the 2008 version in which they again finished third in a four team group failing to make the quarter-finals.[5]

SAFF U-16 Championship
2011 SAFF U-16 Championships
The India under-16 team is participated in the 2011 SAFF U-16 Championship. India failed to win there first match as they lost 1-0 to rivals Pakistan. In there second match India managed though to make up for that defeat by winning 5-0 against Maldives. Then in the semi-finals India managed to beat Nepal 4-2 to move on to the Final against Pakistan, but lost that match 2-1.
