The Rockford Amtrak Station is a proposed train station in Rockford, Illinois, for a new Chicago-Rockford-Dubuque Amtrak corridor scheduled to start by the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015.[1] The route will run on the same tracks the former Black Hawk line used from 1974-1981. The station's construction will start in 2012 and will be located just south of downtown Rockford along Illinois Route 2.[2] The city of Rockford received $3 million from the state of Illinois in January 2012, as well as a $1.95 million grant from federal funds.[3] Currently, the city of Rockford is seeking the rest of the $12 million needed to move the project forward.
