Son Heung-Min (Korean: 손흥민) (born 8 July 1992) is a South Korean footballer who plays for German Bundesliga side Hamburger SV.[1]
Club career
Hamburger SV
In 2008, Son dropped out of FC Seoul Academy and joined Hamburg’s youth academy at the age of 16.[2] He was impressive in the 2010-11 preseason, by leading the team with 9 goals and signed his first professional contract on his 18th birthday.[3] After scoring against Chelsea F.C. in August, he was injured for two months due to a foot injury. He came back on October 30, 2010 scoring his first league goal against F.C. Köln in the 24th minute. The goal made Son the youngest HSV player to have scored a goal in Bundesliga at 18 years, thus breaking the previous 39-year record held by Manfred Kaltz.[4][5]
Son signed a new deal with Hamburg, which will keep him at the club until 2014. Due to his performances in the pre-season he is being affectionately nicknamed "Korean Müller" and received praise from Franz Beckenbauer who said that Son had what it takes to become the next Cha Bum Kun.[6]
During the 2011-2012 pre-season, Son scored 18 goals in 9 games.[7] After missing the opening game due to a fever, Son scored two goals within three games. [8] Unfortunately, mirroring last season, Son picked up an ankle injury in the 3-4 loss to FC Köln on August 27 and will be sidelined for six weeks.[9] "He will be out for approximately four to six weeks," said Hamburg's doctor Werner Siekmann on the club's website. In addition to the torn ligaments, a build-up of liquid around the bone was also revealed by a scan, further complicating his recovery.
Son's recovery is progressing faster than expected; after receiving medical attention in Korea, Son rejoined the training camp on September 13 and could be back in action as soon as the 17th.[10]
International career
Son has made five appearances for South Korea at the senior level, netting one goal in the process against India in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. National team coach Cho Kwang-Rae acknowledged that Son hasn't been given enough chances at the international level and has promised greater consideration for Son's role in future matches.[11] Son was included in the 24-player roster for South Korea's first game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign against Lebanon on September 2.[12] However, Son's ankle injury will keep him out of national team play for the near future.

Style of play
Son is known as a versatile attacker due to his ability to use both feet equally well; he can play either as a striker, attacking midfielder, or winger on either side. Son has confirmed this, saying, "I don't care where I play. The main thing is I'm game. I can play right, left, in the storm or behind it. What the coach says, I'll do. I don't have a favorite position. I'll be anywhere and always on the throttle."[13] Other strengths of Son include his explosive pace, dribbling abilities, composure in front of goal, and hard-working nature. [14]
