Career
Cherilyn Bacon Eagar is Vice President of Marketing and co-owner of Webstarget, a real estate Internet Marketing company specializing in organic search engine optimization and social networking. Upon her announcement of her candidacy for U.S. Senate, she has taken a leave of absence to give the campaign full-time attention.
With a lifetime of study and research, Cherilyn is read on the issues, and has done extensive research in education policy, has presented nationally on education reforms, media and public relations and related topics, Internet marketing strategies. She has hosted a talk radio show and routinely subs on K-TALK radio in Salt Lake City, and is featured in Sean Hannity’s book Let Freedom Ring.
She has served for over 30 years in charitable, family advocacy and political leadership roles, including leadership roles in Republican women's organizations and on several non-profit boards. She currently serves on the Utah Federation of Republican Women Board. She also has also been a candidate for a school board, a campaign manager for a congressional race and has served on state committees for presidential campaigns. In 2004 she traveled to Ohio to work on the Bush-Cheney election and in 2008 she served on the Utah Women for Mitt Committee. She co-authored the first state Family Education Rights to Privacy Act[citation needed] and has advocated at the United Nations in support of traditional family values.[citation needed]
A lifelong Republican, she had brief, top-level, “third party” experience when she helped Patrick Buchanan in his bid for the presidency. During that time, she became the National Press Secretary for the Reform Party.[citation needed] She is now a strong advocate for working within the existing two party-system to affect change. Eagar has stated she believes the Republican Party has drifted too far from correct principles of government in practice. [8]
While in her capacity as the point person for Patrick Buchanan, Buchanan faced controversy over Buchanan petitions in Connecticut. On June 6, 2001, the Connecticut State Elections Enforcement Commission reached a settlement (File No. 2000-226)[2] with Gulbrandsen (Eagar's former married name) and four others for submitting contested petitions. Gulbrandsen, claimed she was only following instructions and directions from the national campaign of Patrick Buchanan. However, the Connecticut State Elections Enforcement Commission (File No. 2000-226)[3] fined Gulbrandsen for submitting falsified petitions. [9]
In 1996, she served as Campaign Manager for Tom Draschil for Congress. Draschil was accused of disseminating false information about Micron Technology Inc by company management. In a Draschil for Congress campaign video, Draschil announces "Utah was promised thousands of new jobs, and in midstream we got Micron of Malaysia. A vivid example of factories and jobs being lured overseas where women and children are employed as a slave labor." Kipp Bedard, Micron spokesperson said "the company strongly objected to and was offended by the implied association between the company and the use of women and children as slave labor." At the time of the video, Micron didn't have facilities in Malaysia. Gulbrandsen, Draschil's campaign manager, refused to retract the information or recall about 1,000 video tapes. In fact, according to Bedard, Gulbrandsen wanted Micron to pay the recall bill. Gulbrandsen did eventually agree to modify the two-sentence statement to "Micron considered going to Malaysia." [10] Singapore is one of the manufacturing locations the company later opened. [11]
